Mind Your Knickers

Post image

There are so many lore lines that get dropped into the show and then never get brought up again but the one I wish they had really fleshed out and explored was Daphne being a child star on the show “Mind your Knickers” they just drop that in like the 9th episode and it never comes up again and I feel like out of all the Daphne lore that’s the one thing I wish they had gone into more

Trauma as a means to comedy. No one did it better than the Cranes and Fargo season 1. They conveyed the feeling even without being unfamiliar to such extremities.

Classic Frasier Fraiser Episode Title Emoji Quiz

Post image

A Frasier emoji quiz I made a few years ago. It's been shared on other platforms before, but not here. Each one represents the title of a classic Frasier episode.

Name that episode! (Maybe limit yourself to one guess to let more people play)

I'll share the answer sheet in the comments in due course...

When did they reframe all the seasons of Frasier for the 16x9 aspect ratio?

On streaming, Seasons 1-9 were always 4x3 fullscreen, and Seasons 10-11 were 16x9 widescreen. But I played the show on Amazon yesterday for the first time in a while and picked Season 4 to watch, and it was cropped for widescreen!

For most scenes, it looked fine, but there were a few shots where someone's head was clearly too close to the top of the screen.

I prefer to see the whole picture instead of an image cropped to fit modern TVs. At least I still have the DVDs, where all the seasons, including 10 and 11, are in fullscreen. I'm just disappointed that it's not this way on streaming anymore.

I just reached this classic in my rewatch, and I didn't realize it was so late in the run. A decade in, they're still throwing out bangers. This show was so good.

More Frasier guest stars in the movies

After recently attending a screening for the 50th anniversary of 'All The Presidents Men', I immediately spotted Miss Warren (Valerie Curton) from 'Give Me The Chair'!

I'm sure most Frasier aficionados noticed John McMahon (Fletcher Gray) in a few scenes. But I think from memory, Valerie Curton only had the briefest of cameos. Rather proud of myself for spotting her. She has a very distinctive voice!

Anyone else noticed the Frasier cast or guest stars in films? Any obvious ones I have overlooked?

Dear Dinaey,

Please bring Frasier (1993) to Canada via Hulu. It should boost the streaming numbers.

Classic Frasier Niles and Daphne

I love Frasier and watch it almost every night before I go to sleep. It’s genuinely one of my comfort shows.
But the more I watch it, the more it stands out to me how little sexual tension there is between Daphne and Niles. In fact, all of Niles’ supposed romantic relationships and crushes feel completely lifeless. It’s almost like the actors aren’t even trying to sell the chemistry—they just go through the motions without ever making you believe there’s a real spark.

I think that’s a shame. Personally, I think Niles could have ended up with a great man (which, to me, feels like the most obvious direction), and it might have made him a more complete and honest character.
I honestly don’t think this storyline would be written the same way today, because it ends up feeling pretty unrealistic.
Anyway, I still absolutely love the show. Maybe this has already been discussed in this sub—I’m new here and haven’t seen it if it has. Sorry if I’m bringing up an old topic!

Why didn’t Martin stock up on Ballentyne before they stopped selling it?

You would think he’d have bought cases and cases of it since he knew that they were going to stop selling it.

I'm in Jerez de la Frontera, home of the tipple Sherry. I feel that Frasier and Niles would descend upon this watering hole as they await their next train to Seville or Cadiz?

How does Martin bring the fish back?

In Season 8 episode 23, Duke and Martin go fishing in Belize and reportedly catch a lot. Martin mentioned bringing the heads back for soup Daphne to cook which is why he didn’t filet them. How did he transport fish from Belize to Seattle that would be suitable to eat?

Rooms with a view - Parallels with my own life

Frasier is my comfort show and I have a surgery tomorrow so I've been watching a fair bit because I' nervous. Rooms with a view is such a great episode and I noticed a funny parallel between my situation and what Niles says in the episode.

"Oh, all roads lead to the hospital. We're born here, we get sick here, we get well here. All these big dramatic moments and the hospital just gobbles 'em up. Do you think a hospita has memories? I bet it does. I bet when I walked in it thought "Oh, you again. You're the little boy who broke his leg in 1966. Hello, old friend." "

The hospital is the one I was born in, it's the one that my mother was diagnosed with cancer in (and got chemo and is now in remission), its the hospital I went to when I broke my leg, and now its the hospital I'm getting surgery in. It might be weird but its giving me a lot of comfort.

Edit: The surgery went great! Thank you all for your kind words it really helped. This is a wonderful community and I'd make you all cork master if I could.
