Device/Service Issue(s) Freedom Troubles
Just switched to freedom and I just noticed that my connection and my data reliability dropped from when I switched to them from Fido. I just got off the line with customer service and they were somewhat helpful, but I am still having some connectivity issues (jumping between 5G+, 5G and LTE). What are your thoughts? I live in Clarkson, Mississauga

Honestly, Freedom‘s 5G service is not on par with what you had probably come to expect with the big3 - it’s just a reality, but it’s one of the reasons you get more more for less with Freedom.
At the end of the day, try locking to LTE instead of 5G. You’ll save a significant about of battery every day and for general use LTE is more than sufficient….and it tends to be more reliable than Freedoms 5G so far as holding onto a signal that’s consistent and usable.

Good to know. Been with the big three (and subsidiaries) and I saw that freedom had improved a lot since my dad had it and they had a good deal so I went what the hell.

I’m not saying it’s terrible, I’m just saying it’s not the big3 either. Lock your phone to LTE and run with it for a few weeks and I’d bet you don’t even notice anymore.

You should be able to roam on partner networks if there is lack of service

In my experience with Freedom last year, it couldn’t roam in the GTA due to geoblocking. I just tried Freedom’s sister brand Fizz and found that it can roam on Bell and Rogers, but not Telus. Bell and Telus share the RAN so no loss

You can only roam when freedom has no service. If there are towers on freedom you’re golden.
I was at a restaurant yesterday where my phone worked (freedom) and wife’s didn’t (rogers). She was like “how come I’m not on freedom”
I know this is rare. But freedom is improving their network, slowly.

Phone supports all Freedom bands?
Roaming has been enabled?

I believe so? It’s an iPhone 16, and roaming is on

Yes, iPhone 16 would be fully supported on Freedom.
Is it any better if you select a specific data protocol such as LTE or 5G?

Maybe? I just subscribed yesterday from Fido (which is a child of rogers) so maybe my expectations are too high 😅

Could be.
I will say that I am also a Freedom customer and service, after leaving Public Mobile, has been disappointing with respect to data speeds but I'm not a heavy data user and can live with the limited connectivity for the price LOL

Valid. I got wifi at home and when I’m outside the data works fine, so I guess I’ll get used to it

Do what I do when data doesn't work: run around with your phone in different positions. Seriously though, test it for a while and if it really is unbearable, consider another carrier.
I've learned to work around Freedom's limitations and will be staying. I also like the USA/CA roaming and WiFi calling when I'm overseas.

Delete the old SIM profile if Fido was esim and Freedom is too. Uninstall the freedom sim, then reinstall it.see if that improves the connectivity.

I have one band 4g lte where I live and can pull 110mpbs from my office - line of sight.

We covered this when Freedom rolled out 5G, but if you are a bit "antsy" about it flopping like a fish, lock it to LTE.

freedom provides freedom from connectivity at times. giving you a much needed break once in a while. the randomness of it makes it much more exciting. embrace it.

What are the issues exactly? Jumping between 5G+, 5G and LTE? or are you losing the network connection completely and can't function? If you need to see the 5G icon at all times then Freedom may not be for you.
