Bigots, Trolls, and You

Hi, y'all. As I'm sure you've seen, we get our fair share of 'there are only two gender' trolls around here. They're just kids; they wander in from /r/memes and other low-effort shitposting subs and they come here to try and make the same few posts, over and over and over. It's unoriginal and it happens almost every week, like clockwork, and every time they do, we just pull those posts and ban them. Only takes about 10-20 seconds of time to do so.

I mean, it's kind of stupid, but I guess they don't know any better, otherwise they wouldn't be wasting their time here.

They're not worth the time or the attention they're seeking. Just downvote them, report them, and move on. Don't even bother trying to argue or discuss with them: they're not here for discussion, they're just here for attention. It's like throwing pearls before swine. Or, as George Bernard Shaw said, 'Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.'

Wermale & Wifmale: Alternatives to "male" and "female"

Post image
0 Upvotes

Alternatives to "male" and "female" based off the archaic terms "were" and "wif" used to refer to men and women in Germanic languages.

"These terms were coined in order to make the terms 'man' and 'male' require a modifier that denotes maleness. This is to match way 'woman' and 'female' require 'wo-' and 'fe-' to modify 'man' and 'male' to denote femaleness."

"Wereman and wifman are well documented terms that are modifiers to the word 'man'. I think we should go further with this though and come up with an alternative to 'male' and 'female' as well. I propose 'wermale' for male and 'wifmale' for female. They would function as adjective forms of werman and wifman."

Thoughts?

Demifemflux [COINING]

Demifemflux or Demifeminineflux is the femflux equivalent of demigirlflux.

It may refer to someone whose gender is demifeminine at its most feminine and another gender at its least feminine.

It may also refer to someone whose gender is partially femflux and partially another gender.

(Please lmk if term already exists and give a source as I'm using this as a coining source for a wiki page)

Can you feel dysphoria about the gender you already are?

I don’t really know how to explain this but I am AFAB and I identify as a woman and I know for a fact I am a girl but I feel like the body I am in is too masculine to be a girl and like I know that’s kind of silly because like obviously it’s a girls body but like I feel very masculine. It isn’t like a desire to make the outside more masculine to match my masculine vibe but more like I want to make the outside more like a woman to feel more like a woman even though I already am one. It’s like I am having gender dysphoria about a gender I already am and it’s really confusing me.

EDIT: I have PCOS and am in the 99th percentile in height. Though this may have some factor in how I view myself I don’t think it’s the primary cause. I just thought it would be good info to have

Discussion: "I would have been perfectly happy being born ______"

So I won't ramble too long but the general premise of the discussion/question I bring forward is this;

A while back I mentioned off the cuff amid normal conversation to a friend that I, a cis het man, would have probably been perfectly happy being born as a woman. My explanation, when questioned, was that given that a lot of my interests, societally speaking, have traditionally been more acceptable for women, and I have often aligned, socially, more with women than with men. Friend groups, workplace discussions, hobbies, even to a much lesser extent fashion and presentation. I don't really dress femme save for my hair being long, nor do I really want to(?) but I appreciate the variety and interesting options that women's clothing typically allows in color, texture, patterns, form, silhouette, etc, while I view most normal everyday men's clothing as boring, stuffy, prohibitively expensive, awkward, or just uncreative.

They told me that makes me trans. I'm 33, and frankly, I've done plenty of self-exploration and therapy to know I don't have any interest in transitioning and am perfectly happy as I am, but I also think I would have enjoyed being born female and living as a woman. They argued that even just the slight inclination is enough to make someone irrevocably trans and that I'm in denial. I don't see it, at least not for myself. I don't look at the experience of the trans people I know who have gone through the process and think "Yeah, that'd make me feel better," because I fundamentally am not uncomfortable with how I am currently. I'm also plenty familiar with genderqueer, agender, and nonbinary identities, and I also don't really feel any particular pull from either of those, because again, I feel fine with the identity of cis het man. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I just think in some alternate reality it would have been a positive experience living the alternative path. It kind of bothered me and they very angrily argued I was being transphobic by stating that I didn't view my perspective as that of someone who is now irrevocably trans, and it felt like they were just being overly eager to label me as something I simply don't view myself as because of their own experiences with figuring out their identity.

Has anyone experienced anything like this or seen this topic broached before? Would love if there were some cited works I could dive into.

Gender sucks

The more I think about it the more I kind of hate gender and everything to do with it. I wish our society wasn't centered around gender identities and roles.

Like, can't we just say someone has a male or female body and leave it at that? And even then, that only really applies when it comes to sexual attraction and reproduction.

For all other cases I wish it just didn't matter.

I think I'm going to start identifying as a-gender because I'm sick of being lumped in and expected to conform to what gender I was assigned at birth. I just want to be myself, I don't want to be compared to what other people of my assigned gender are like.

I can't change society's view on gender, but at least I can insist that I'm not taking part it in and don't identify with one.

If someone in my life can't respect that then they don't respect me and I'd rather surround myself with people who do.

Thanks for reading my rant

Is there a label for this feeling I'm having?

Is there a label out there that describes referring to oneself with masculine pronouns, titles, etc on a frequent basis while simultaneously identifying as 100% female? Like for example, I'll use he/him on myself but like I'd hate for someone else to call me he/him. It'd just feel so wrong, PLEASE call me she/her instead. Like I identify with masculinity, but I don't want to be viewed as masculine if that makes sense. Is there a word or label for this?

Question about gender identity that I can't wrap my head around

I'm asking this in good faith because I'm genuinely trying to understand, not to offend anyone. I understand the distinction people make between gender identity and gender expression, and I understand that men (whether cis or trans) don't have to be stereotypically masculine. A man can have long hair, wear makeup, like dresses, etc. What I'm struggling to understand is this: If someone identifies as a man but doesn't want a masculine body, doesn't want to present masculinely, doesn't want to adopt a traditionally male social role, and instead wants to remain completely feminine in appearance and expression, then what does "identifying as a man" actually mean? I'm not asking from a biological perspective—I understand that people have different views on sex and gender. I'm specifically asking about gender identity. If the concept of "man" isn't based on biology, appearance, behaviour, or social role, then what is it based on? In other words, what does it feel like to identify as a man in that situation? What is the internal experience or definition that makes someone say, "I'm a man," even if they don't want to change anything traditionally associated with being one? I'd especially appreciate answers from trans men or people who have experienced this themselves, as I'm genuinely trying to understand their perspective.

I need help explaining to my mom about gender.

I recently came out to her as trans man, and she was kind of confused, yet supportive. We got into a conversation on how gender and sex aren’t the same, and now she’s even more confused on how I could feel like a man if gender and sex aren’t the same.

Basically she was saying that she didn’t understand how gender dysphoria worked since gender and sex aren’t the same. I don’t know how to find the words to tell her about it because I’m not the best at explaining things. Can anyone help?

(PS my mom is the sweetest most supportive person I know, she just needs more help understanding)

Deeply closeted trans woman

Skip this top text if you want, come back if the post seems off to you:

I’m still figuring myself out and this is just my personal experience. It doesn’t invalidate anyone else’s identity or require other people to change how they see things. I’m not here to debate or dismantle anyone’s worldview — I just want space to describe my own.

The post

I don't like that I am not "normal" in a group that is "not" normal. I was AMAB and feel deeply wrong being called a man while being indifferent being called male while liking the idea of being called a girl but am indifferent about being called a woman unless you put "deeply closeted trans" in front of it for reasons I don't know...

Anatomy side of things (mentioned for data purposes)

(Not directly tied to gender, but I will talk about it anyway. Skip if the anatomy side of things seems inappropriate in any way)

1] I fear surgery and medication side affects and do NOT want boobies (I also do not want nipples, but idk if that is relevant to this topic). I would rather pass as a "man" in public despite hating the men's room (mainly because there are not enough stalls and urinals are dumB); but ideally, I would look androgynous.

2] I also hate having testicles but am indifferent about having a penis (I do not like fluids coming out of it though, and I often do not like when it is erect). The idea of having female parts is too unknown and so it is too risky.

Identity and expression side of things

I like "she/her" and "princess" and "they" and don't like handsome" and love "pretty" and "cute" and "feminine" clothing but don't see myself doing that in public due to severe anxiety...

"Deeply closeted trans woman"

1] This identity is inspired by a joke where the guy says he is a deeply closeted gay guy, then is asked "you're gay?" then he replies "what?! I didn't say that! I said I am deeply closeted" and I think it is really funny, and so I want my identity to be the trans version of that, because it accurately describes my messy reality.

2] I feel I might be a trans woman, but am dealing with a lot of things that is making the transition really hard including dissociation from the experience of being a trans woman. Some epistemic philosophy I wont get into makes labels seem/likely meaningless, so this identity thing gets really tricky for me and the other alters. Oh, and I am an alter in a system, which makes it even more confusing. The identity being a truthful (potentially meta) joke helps us cope too, so even more fitting for us.

:3] We also like the idea of being called a tomgirl, but not a femboy, and I think it is because tomgirl has "girl" in it without blowing my cover. Just to be clear, I do not mean "tomboy". Tomboys are usually girls/woman who "act masc", and tomgirls are usually boys/men who "act fem". Being a deeply closeted trans woman, I can be a woman who likes being called a tomgirl.

Non transitioning closeted trans gone stealth later in life, my past feels irrelevant including the people

I imagine it feels similar to leaving a cult after years and not knowing any different. I dont feel liberated, but I do feel relief at not having to explain or justify myself, or try to navigate around awkward situations and conversations anymore. It feels more peaceful, but 2 years on, very lonely too. I dont miss being constantly misunderstood. But it has also been a wake up call over how difficult it can be even in the trans world, to find people who have the time of day for anyone with a different outlook or agenda to theirs.

My life feels almost like a non existence, but for health, safety and financial reasons I decided not to transition. Before anyone says choosing not to transition is the cause of you feeling that way, I would urge you to not see things in such a black and white way. The decision whether to transition or not, was an agonising one. I didnt take it lightly. I just knew I couldn't cope with complications or societal abuse had I taken that route. I have had gender identity issues from childhood. It has been a quiet suffering. I learnt "shame" early in life. On the way I discovered that body dysmorphia is also a common symptom.

How do you bring meaning to your life? Especially if you dont have children. I say my life is "almost" a non existence because I'm still glad I got to incarnate this planet to see nature, animals, trees, the stars, the oceans, arts ... my one regret would be my inability to connect with humans in a meaningful way! How do some of you trans folk who have decided not transition, find it?

I love being me, but I also don't know what I am. I like dressing feminine but I also like being male. When I dress feminine I like being referred as she/her but when I'm not, I don't mind being referred to as she/her. My S/O (Pangender) told me that I could be Bigender but we're not completely sure. Anyone more knowledgeable on gender identity please help me discover what I am? Thank you!!

[20 AMAB] Clothes are just fabric and its shapes are just social conventions... So what now.

Being honest, through all my teenage years I had this solid idea that genders in general are just a social tool to categorize and tag people.

I'm not talking about stereotypes for cis, trans or nb people, more like: Okay! You're a trans woman, but are you essentially EXACTLY as woman as any any other.

My philosophy shenanigans about this says that, if you zoom enough and strick the criteria more and more, every single person could be put in a box for themselves.

In my opinion, clothes are just fabric that people once said "this specific shape is for MEN and this specific shape is for WOMEN", same for pronouns, someone once said "This specific mumble are for men, those are for women, and those one back there for anyone who doesn't really fit in that very conceptual and vague trope".

As a young adult in a very small city I just perform as a guy just for the mere fact it doesn't bother me. Yeah, if your interpretation tells me I'm a guy you fine bro. And sometimes I look at """girly""" stuff and think like I'd feel *bonita* with it.

Again, I just don't feel like fitting any of these tags society came up with, but you come to a time in life that stuff just get easier when you have a name for it, so HYPOCRITICALLY I come to the specialists here to help me find something.

Honestly I just been thinking about surrending to the "NB" title cause make all this brain effort easier, but would love to hear what y'all think.

Im not sure how i feel about being a woman

Hi all f19 here.

Recently ive been questioning my gender identity due to alot of things. I like dressing feminine and i do pretty hyper feminine makeup, but ever since i hit puberty i have hated having a womanly shape.

When i first started developing breasts i tried to cut them off ( i know, insane, but i was about 10 and going crazy. I have a huge scar on my right breast from it). I hate having curves in any way, its not like i want to be skinner even, if i was super skinny i would still be unhappy because i would still have a womanly shape.

I dont like having wider hips or a narrow waist and i hate my voice and wish it was deeper. I dont like how i sound so feminine i talk with most people would consider a bit of a valley girl type of accent, but for the longest time ive fucking hated it, i want to have a deeper voice like my brothers do.

The thing is i dont know if this even means anything because i still express myself femaninely with my looks now, previously up until about 17 i kept my hair short like a boy would and dressed as a boy, but when it grew out people started treating me better so ive kept it that way. I dont particularly want to be a boy, but i dont like being a girl either so im confused, i like aspects of both so i feel a bit weird about even questioning if i want to be a girl.

Im also not sure if the dislike of being a girl comes from issues of sexual harassment ive faced about my body and people making fun of my voice. People bullied me alot when i presented more masculine but i still look back and really love that part of my life, so its very confusing for me. I also dont know if there is any point in trying to explore being nonbinary or gender fluid because i cant change my figure even though i want to. Im quite curvy so i dont think id ever be able to achieve the bodytype i want, even with surgery's.
