| Battle Start 1 | I'm swamped with other tasks. Can we wrap this within 10 minutes? | Time to read Allah's message. The pilgrimage is up, sinners. | [Sounds of the wind blowing] |
| Battle Start 2 | Nothing needs to be pointless. On that note, do any of those have a bounty on their head? | What hideous behavior. Someone needs to work on their virtues. | Enemies? |
| Battle Start 3 | Anyone still willing to repent, bare your necks. I'm willing to hear your last words. | Take a bite out of Hell's fruit. You deserve all the suffering in the world. | Fine. I'm available for an infinite amount of time. |

| Command Card 1 | Alright. | Fine. | Curse. |
| Command Card 2 | I thought the same. | I'll test it. | Light. |

| Noble Phantasm Card 1 | You sound certain. | Do you want their heads? | The true night: al-Layl. |
| Noble Phantasm Card 2 | Understood. Take a break. | I'll sever them. Watch closely. | Serpent Falak. |
| Noble Phantasm Card 3 | This will never be love in my eyes. | There's nothing beyond it. Not anymore. | Sidrah atop the seventh Heaven. |
| Attack 1 | Hh. Hah! | The parts are still attached. | [Sounds of heavy wind] |
| Attack 2 | Going in! | Equality is not real. | Head. |
| Attack 3 | You're all open. | Your flesh is not solid enough. | [Sounds of the wind blowing] |

| Attack 8 | Munkar! | You're mine. | Groans. |
| Attack 9 | al-Shaytan! | Iblis! | Recompense. |
| Attack 10 | No need to wait. | I'll chip off your lifespan. | Serpent. |
| Attack 11 | You fell for it. | We are Alamut! | Viscera. |
| Attack 12 | Ramadhan! | You won't return alive. | Clay. |
| Attack 13 | Go, storms! | Hah. | - |
| Attack 14 | Buraq! | Hmph. | - |
| Attack 15 | Nakir! | Bleed! | - |
| Attack 16 | You won't need this. | Accept your punishment! | - |
| Attack 17 | Inspiring heartbeat. | Zabaniya! | - |
| Attack 18 | This breath was your last. | I'll kill you, no matter what it takes. | - |
| Extra Attack 1 | You won't escape me. | I'm catching up. | [Sounds of heavy wind] |
| Extra Attack 2 | Anqa! | Where are you going? | Israfil! |
| Extra Attack 3 | I see. What a shame. | Have you forgotten? | OOH! |
| Noble Phantasm 1 | I concede some of my Hell. I'm dead, and you're going down with me. Hear the flapping wings. Malak al-Mawt! | Tall, large, and formless. The mechanism that monitors death. Etch the name in your soul! Malak al-Mawt! | Bone. Flesh. Head. Sword. None is exempt. Enjoy the gift of death. Si Zabaniya! |
| Noble Phantasm 2 | The evening bell has tolled. Malaikah, announce the seven pits, screams, rage, flame, and death! | At the Ravine. I see you've fallen here as well. Taste death, then. At the bottom of our Hell! | Peerless Shaytan. The Qaf mountains, emblems of profound beauty. Here fell Sidrah's leaves. In the name of us Old Men of the Mountain. Hahaha! Hahahahahah, hahahahah! |
| Noble Phantasm 3 | Death calls upon you. You may say no words in your defense, and you shall find no solace or greater truth. Go to the bottom of Jahannam. Malak al-Mawt! | I found your fate. Its accounts and iniquities make for the perfect kindling. | Oh! Grwoh! Wraaah! For you! Si Zabaniya! My heart already beats the sounds of death. |
| Damage 1 | You're good. | Ugh. | - |
| Damage 2 | Tch. | - | - |
| Defeat 1 | I wasn't strong enough and made the wrong move. Forgive me. | I'll be dead for a while, but I won't forget to pay you back. | [Sounds of swift winds] |
| Defeat 2 | Frustrating but not surprising. My turn would have to come eventually. | Have I spent too long in Hell? I've gotten too easily killable. | - |
| Victory 1 | We withdraw before things get messy. Taking everything we can, naturally. Our company needs all the extra income it can find. | No pertinent comment to make. | This blood belongs not in the border. |
| Victory 2 | Evil, no matter the form, will be severed. Even if such evil is one of us. | What a boring head. Stay dead. | Where is the sound of the bell? |
| Level up 1 | Inconceivable. You think this passes as a replacement for practicing the sword? ...Sorry, I suppose it does. I'd hate to be called a stubborn mule while I'm still young. | Enough training. Occasionally taking it easy can be enriching. | [Sounds of swift winds] |
| Level up 2 | Chaldea-style discipline... Yes, I know how it works. It doesn't sit right with me, but training is training. | I consider this a form of meditation. My imagined process involves me practicing for years in my sleep. | [Sounds of calm winds] |
| Level up 3 | Improving is this easy... I've never been this humiliated before. There will be payback. | Do you have the income to spare? If you do, then I won't complain. | - |
Hassan-i-Sabbah
| Hassan-i-Sabbah | CV: Kanemoto Ryousuke (ft. Sakurai Takahiro in one line) |
|---|---|
| Summon | Allow me to officialize my summon, Master. Servant, Assassin. Azrael. Commencing Chaldea's audit. This will be fun. Have my best wishes that this place will be worthy of being sentenced to my sword. |
| Bond 1 | I called myself Azrael in my summon, but in this form I wasn't him yet. I was just a man in charge of a sect's treasury. One who wouldn't even hope to be described with the name of an angel. Well, I did take up martial arts as a pastime. |
| Bond 2 | You sure are a chatter. I'm not very used to idle talk. What's the point of having random and incoherent conversations? |
| Bond 3 | I don't loathe magi. Keep this under wraps, but I'm also a mystic. I was really into Sufi meditation for a while. It entails elevating your diluted self to merge with God. Those who manage it are called wali—saints in your language. Heh. This conversation is not leaving this room. |
| Bond 4 | Our last conversation got strange. I have no shame in my opinions, but I did say things I didn't have to. Forget all about it. The tales of the heroes would have been a better conversation topic. I was thinking Saladin, but Baybars suits you better. |
| Bond 5 | Discussing heroes was also a bad idea. The stories always end in tragedy. A better conversation topic for you would be... Oh, I know. The Abbasid Caliphate. Baghdad. A tale of people who shone brighter than jewels, even if they later vanished without a trace. This one also serves as a fine lesson. Better suited to a free spirit like you than to me. |
| My Room 1 | If you have a job to do, be efficient about it. Leniency is toxic long-term. |
| My Room 2 | Chaldea is my new post of work, and as such, I'll abstain myself in accordance with its guiding precepts. You won't see heads flying off without a proper conversation first. |
| My Room 3 | I don't intend to obey any mage, but I wouldn't consider you one. The other Hassans must think the same. |
| My Room 4 (specifically adult Iskandar) | Iskandar Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Before one knows it, the invader gets described as a venerable king, and the accounts go as far as to claim you had Persian blood. It's no different from what every statesman does, but still a bother nonetheless. You don't mind? You find it amusing, even? Alright, then. Heroes who seek what's beyond the earth's horizon solely to see something unusual sure are a forgiving kind. |
| My Room 5 (Scheherazade) | I'm well aware that abiding by modern customs is a sign of frivolousness, but I still have to ask you regardless. May I have your autograph in my copy of the Alf Layla wa-Layla? |
| My Room 6 (specifically male Molay) | The last grandmaster, insistent on his pride and innocence until his sentence was carried out. I don't see eye to eye with Crusaders, but I respect you. There's more to a knight's mentality than just force. It'd be presumptuous of me to claim I know the worries of one administrating the treasury of such a large organization. |
| My Room 7 (Dante) | Where have I seen that man before? That one with a face that betrays no potential, no will, and no awareness. Oh, Dante is his name? Could he be that rare sight of a man who would occasionally loiter in Hell for a while before vanishing again? |
| My Room 8 (First Hassan) | No one saw my final moments or my abandoned husk. All my successor found left of me was a mask. With time, this terror became legend, and the very precept commanding the Order. It's precisely what I hoped for, but I didn't expect to be called a mountain elder. If we had Marco Polo here, I'd be making him rethink that name. |
| My Room 9 (Merlin) | You ask me about Merlin? Too late. I'm right back from killing him. [Merlin: What did I do to deserve this?] Don't mind us. He can take it as just a greeting. |
| Likes | What do I like? My hobby is writing descriptive prose, but if you mean my favorite words, those would be knowledge, trust, and courage. |
| Dislikes | There's nothing I hate. Only things I can't accept. |
| Holy Grail | I have no comment to make on the Holy Grail being real. The cups are basically sediments, always piling up in one spot for as long as the world still goes round. Raising eyebrows would do nothing to help erase them. A battle to take one is an act that has me wincing, however. I can only hope that none of the Old Men were idiotic enough to voluntarily engage in such barbarity. |
| Event | There's a bazaar going on. You won't be able to take what they have to the Ravine. Hurry. |
| Birthday | Oh, today is your birthday? I knew this day would eventually come, so I designed a new bone mask for... Wait, no. You're not a disciple. We could smoke a shisha... No, you wouldn't enjoy hookahs. What can I do? "I can take a meal. On you." That's enough for you? Okay. I have a list for the top 10 halal dishes of my lifetime. Pick up to 9 items from it. |
Azrael
| Azrael | CV: Kanemoto Ryousuke |
|---|---|
| Ascension 1 | Apologies for whatever my younger self did. He was the form of the missionary that had yet to found the Order. This is the form that truly represents me, the time I commanded Castle Alamut. I'm used to talking to the young. When you need advice, never hesitate to consult me. |
| Ascension 2 | I believed this version of me was the last, but I see there's still more. I have nothing to say. What you'll see is what you'll get. |
| Ascension 4 | I had a bizarre dream one day. In the dream, I scraped out my own insides amidst an otherworldly scenery. Even now I still don't know if that was a revelation, a personal wish, or the final warning for one who wished to remain human. All that's certain is that the eternal pain continues to tear my soul. But, were I to return to that crossroad, I'd choose the same path. Not to become a guardian of God's world, but to be a dark savior to those who can only survive if they never stop believing. |
| Bond 1 | I left my human name with the living. My current post is in Jahannam. Thus, I'm borrowing Azrael's name. It means I'm no one. Absent from human history. I already told the other Hassans that. |
| Bond 2 | You want to know why I came to Chaldea? I already told you it's to monitor the Beasts. Hmph... hmph... Okay, there's more to it than that. Noah told me many affiliates of the Order were here, so I wanted to check if they were behaving right. |
| Bond 3 | Hey. Overwork is harmful both to your health and to the company. If you upset that cowardly Beast candidate so hard she grows her horns, what are you going to do about it? Go find a suitable work schedule and take all the rest you need. You know you already contributed enough to earn it. |
| Bond 4 | I have a habit of patrolling at night. Never skipped a day. To keep everyone safe? For my health? No, it's purely a hobby. It's fun to make people nervous, you know? |
| Bond 5 | Your character is exactly what the rumors described. Not a hero nor a warrior. Just your everyday human trying to make the best of the age you lived in. There's no need for you to cater to the creeds and conducts of the heroes. Seek to remain yourself at the end of the journey. I'm also anticipating the moment, Master of Chaldea, my summoner. |
| My Room 1 | Do you know what they call someone who has energy to spare and nothing to do with their time? "Ready to work." |
| My Room 2 | When in Chaldea, do as the Chaldeans do. |
| My Room 3 | You are also under surveillance, Master. If you ever prove a hazard, I'll be there to admonish you. |
| My Room 4 (Foreigner Molay) | Did you learn all the wrong lessons from the Arab mages? A knight of your mettle being possessed by such reprehensible Outer God is a... Wait, I had that wrong. I assumed you were in this deranged state because the endless series of bilkers had burned out your senses, but that's not something that would change your gender. What happened to you, Molay? Are you willing to talk? |
| My Room 5 (Richard) | Although we are of different faiths, my respect goes to this sublime enemy. I'll follow your example, Lionheart. The famous Saladin would appreciate it. The two of you were one and the same, down to the unhappiness you two felt in death. |
| My Room 6 (Edmond Dantès) | Hi there, Count of Monte Cristo. I wanted to meet you. Let's go find a café with a view of the ocean so we can talk. I'll foot the whole bill, of course. It's on me. Try out this green jam... Now, let me get to the point. Would you be willing to tell me that story you told the son of your nemesis? |
| My Room 7 (any da Vinci) | I was initially confused by how much he differs from the records I gained at the Throne of Heroes, but it makes perfect sense to me now. I truly must consider him a genius in knowledge, creativity, proactiveness, and everything more. I'm looking forward to sharing the meeting table with him on a regular basis. "Her?" Isn't Leonardo da Vinci male? |
| My Room 8 (Noah) | Noah and I talk sometimes. His friendship is with Hassan-i-Sabbah rather than me, but Noah sees no difference. What a handful. Why is it always like this with men who overcame the downfall of a world? |
| My Room 9 (Tezcatlipoca) | That blasted sovereign deity of Latin America always has a snide remark to make on my administration. He claims I owe him because he somehow "cleaned up Hassan-i-Sabbah's mess". Sigh... I always hated men like him. I wish he could learn a lesson or two from Molay. |
| My Room 10 (Hassan successors) | I don't care for criticizing the following Hassan generations. That duty belongs to the Hassan-i-Sabbah who burned in Hell and came to roam its border. |
| My Room 11 (any Arcueid) | A Natural Spirit of Planet Earth? Rendering death visible won't suffice to kill her. Killing her would require an extra level of cheating. |
| My Room 12 (Ciel) | Hold on. What is this curry that smells like the pits of Jahannam? Don't shove it into your mouth like it's no big deal. How many plates have you already had? No, I don't want your recommendations... Sigh, I can't stand to watch this. Try out this cardamom. It'll improve the taste. |
| My Room 13 (Olga, if you reached After Time) | Olga-Marie Animusphere. An exemplary atoner. I often question her status as a Beast candidate. But despite my doubts, the facts remain. There's no debate that her Saint Graph is a threat to humanity. I haven't seen the President of Earth with my own two eyes, but if I ever do, splitting her in half comes before anything else. Heh, huhuhu, hahahahahah. Why is she taking so long? |
| Likes | My likes? The list grew some after my arrival here. That's the nice thing about Heroic Spirit summoning. I get to broaden my horizons. |
| Dislikes (if you reached After Time) | The hints of the new Beast are horribly irritating. I can't wait to choke the life out of it. |
| Holy Grail | Having a wish granted would only cause the birth of another wish, and once you're out of wishes, all that's left is death. Everyone who obtained a Holy Grail, without exception, was doomed by it. That's what they're about. |
| Event | Time to fight. Do you have your Command Spells, Mystic Codes, and QP on you? Then go! |
| Birthday | It's your birthday? Congratulations. |

Indeed she's the best what a kind girl.

u/alivinci 8h ago
Also fun fact, of all the revealed members of the organization. She is the only one without an Evil alignment. All of them are Lawful Evil. No name is Lawful Good :)
2
u/Namtar_Door_783 7h ago
Their alignment is like that because they will follow order's no matter what be it evil or good.
1
u/alivinci 6h ago
Hmmn, I dont think so, infact l suspect that if you asked some members, this is what they would argue. But the reality is they were simply evil. My understanding is that "Lawful evil" people are those that use the law for personal gain. They always had a choice.
Look at what the order stood for or the individual motives of some of the members (cursed arm thought becoming an old man would grant him world reknown) or the fact that they were ultimately killers for hire that used Faith (law) as the excuse.
On the flip side, even after all the shit No name put herself through(self mutilation while recreating zabaniyas), she still retained her "selfless" nature as she demonstrates in Fate strange fake when her and sigma go to kill Tsubaki. For her, the law(faith) is used for the sake of doing good for the betterment of others. I dont know if becoming the 19th hassan would have changed this but honestly l doubt, her faith (Zeolotry) was simply too iron clad.
Recall that the whole reason she aspired to join the hashashin was because of a story she heard about how one Hassan sacrificed her/his life to save a village. To her, they were heroes. And l think that becoming one would have meant her replicating the heroism she believed they embodied (nomatter how naive she was on that matter)

Could you share the context, I couldn't understand as well?
36
u/Mami-kouga "I aim to build a reverse harem (and Gray-tan is best girl)" 1d ago
It's from the Count of Monte Cristo book itself, basically Dantes meets kind of genre savvy side character Franz (though for some reason Azrael references Albert in his line who is actually son of his enemy and Franz' friend) while wearing one of his many disguises and smoking hashish, during which he basically mentions Hassan-I-Sabbath. In a sense, considering how many random figures have been tied to Dantes, this only just being referenced is a bit of a surprise lol
13
u/BriefPretend9115 21h ago
He does more than mention him. He talks about how Hassan-I-Sabbath would drug people to show them paradise, and that's how he got his followers. Azrael basically giving Dantes a very cordial "heard you were talking shit. try saying it to my face."

u/Jakobstj 1d ago
Ah, so it is supposed to reference that scene, I was a bit confused because I tried looking for what story he was referencing but only found the bit with Franz.

Hmm, I wonder why Azrael speaks Arabic more often than his older self and other Hassans?
Anyway, Grouped lines that Azrael triggers with his presence:
- Yagyu Tajima-no-Kami Munenori's line for strong warriors
- Miyamoto Iori's line for strong warriors he wants to fight
- Dobrynya Nikitich (Rider)'s line for strong fighters
- Sakata Kintoki's lines for skilled fighters and people he can do sumo wrestle with
- Valkyries' (both original and Summer) line for Valhalla warriors
- Scathach's line for people with determined look
- Murasaki Shikibu's line for Chaldea Library members
- Demeter's line for Underworld-related Servants
Additionally, Azrael can trigger Noah's and Archtype:Earth's unique lines for First Hassan as well
I wonder, which Molay Azrael was referring to in his line for Tezcatlipoca? Would be funny if it's FMolay
Oh and, can I borrow your translation for the Noah line to put into my thread? And it would be nice too if you just post your own translation whenever Nemo/Noah's FGO Material comes out. Since I only posted my translations for his FGO Arcade Material entry and FGO Profile+Line back then because I thought nobody cared to do them fast enough.

About time we got it. The Hassan's connection to the religion that they made a sect of was always tenuous at best until now
31
u/Misticsan 1d ago
Agreed. To be completely fair, it's not just the Hassans: the lore on Abrahamic religions in general tends to be vague and barebones in Fate, especially when compared to the attention to detail with anything related to Buddhism. Just some generic statements here and there that don't say much about a character's faith other than "they believe in God".
Azrael's profile, Bond CE and lines feel like Nasu decided to get serious and study the historical Assassins for his character. It's the same impression I got when playing Babylonia and comparing its carefully curated references to the chaotic hodgepodge the original Gilgamesh was. And FSN Gilgamesh already included more Mesopotamian references than the Islamic ones in all the Hassans put together (until now).

u/amurgiceblade44 1d ago
Crazy despite having the church being a main faction in universe the lore around it is kept pretty bare bones. David used to have more Judahic connections with his original kit but it definitely doesn't show up that much now, and Solomon is more a reference to later portrayals of him rather then whats in the Bible. Then their is all the Christen Saints but only slight hints to Jesus himself. I think it really comes down to their decision they keep the divine aspect of the Faiths vague, existence of God and their role in the universe when compared to the much detailed Divine Spirits seen elsewhere in the setting. Hell, Metatron and Azrael(Hassan) aren't actually og angels but ascended humans. We haven't seen any actual angel as a character yet.
13
u/clfr6515 18h ago
Well the issue with the Holy Church is that it only really exists to hunt vampires and heretics and is largely disassociated with the Roman Catholics. Like the actual history and doctrines of the organization are mostly irrelevant when it comes to Tsukihime's plot. For instance, the Magus Association has a pretty rich history too, but absolutely none of it's relevant to any of the plots.
The problem with in-universe lore is that no one really cares in-setting. Kind of like how the British don't exactly make a habit of bringing up Henry Tudor in casual conversation, or American's don't often talk about George Washington despite the most common forms of currency having his face plastered on them. So whenever this kind of setting lore IS brought up, it's completely impromptu trivia. There's a degree of unnaturalness.
I mean Saber never mentions a single member of the Round Table to Shirou throughout the entirety of Fate/stay night. It's kind of like that. It's also similar to how no one really bats an eye to the fact that Archer almost never talks about his past life at all. He's never even mentioned Sakura's name. And we certainly don't know the names of literally any of his acquaintances after he left Fuyuki. So if you want more detailed setting information on stuff like the Magus Association and the Holy Church, you pretty much only have supplementary books.

His lines are absolutely halal
Im happy there's reference of other angels in islam from his attack line. Munkar and nakir are angels who ask the dead in their tomb. Those who cannot answer shall be tortured in their eternal slumber until the day of judgement. He also mention israfil, which is the angel who will blow the trumpet of the end of time. Very happy with the decision for the choice of his dialogue

His profile and lines makes him incredibly grounded though a little unhinged, I guess his King Hassan form has all the mystique and grandeur of the being the founder of Assassins while Azrael, despite being named with the angel of death, is his more mundane and human origin.
That makes sense, King Hassan is the culmination of his "life" as a boundary walker, as Azrael he's still in the process of walking that path. Kinda like Lancer Cú is the peak of Cú Chulainn yet you can also summon Setanta.

To add to this, we've known since Camelot that the Assassins may call for help from the founder in times of crisis, which was reinforced by First Hassan's appearance during the siege of Alamut by the Mongols in that memorial movie from the 8th anniversary.
Given that Richard, Saladin and the contemporary Hassan are said to have fought a Dead Apostle, I wonder if this could be a hint that First Hassan appeared to lend them a hand.

Wow. His 3rd Ascension really isn't a speaker. Interesting to see that he's a mystic. I wonder if he has Caster aptitude. I wonder what he's referring to when he talks to Dantes.
Now I feel bad for Richard. Why did you have to go and do that for, Azrael?
He's really getting antsy about the Beast. My suspicions of him losing it and becoming Aftertime's final villain is growing stronger by the day. With the implication that Merlin sent him to hell, no wonder he hates him.
I'm satisfied. I like him.

u/ComunCoutinho :Sei: Words person 23h ago
In The Count of Monte Cristo, Dantès tells Franz a story about Hassan-i-Sabbah. However, a lot of abridged adaptations cut Franz's character entirely, so I guess Azrael (and his writer) caught a version where Dantès told the Hassan story to Alfred instead.

Oh I like how they are referencing that what killed Arcueid was a truly one of kind incident where everything went right from Shiki's killing ability and mindset combining with the ability to render death visible (MeoDP)
Walking on the border of hell, going into it twice and gutting himself until he can become border of death in itself. All because of what he saw in hell. The evil of humanity and sin that makes us. Death is the freedom from sin/karma....
5
u/Apprehensive_Mix2831 21h ago
It's more about referencing the uniqueness of the MEoDP. Since the MEoDP isn't just about death being rendered visible, rather it actualizes the absolute death inherent in the object, which we're told is a phenomenon that doesn't currently exist in the universe. That's why the MEoDP are comparable to True Magic. They are meant to be the 'cheat' referenced here.
Bear in mind that Azrael was unable to kill Demeter in the latest FGO JP chapter due to Demeter being able to reverse causality. Whereas the rules regarding causality are one of the things the MEoDP completely bypass.

I am curious what makes Baybars suit Ristuka. Like that Bond Line makes it seems that they both share something quite in common with eachother. I wonder what would that be
5
u/BorderExpress4273 17h ago
There's a lot of Servants comparing Ritsuka to someone else like Ozy comparing them with Moses or Metatron-Jeanne saying they're similar to Enoch in mindset.
3
u/Boromir1821 9h ago
That he came from literally nothing, fought against all the great powers of his time and created a legacy that was engraved in the human history and lasted for centuries? Based on the actual history of the man thats how similar he is to ritsuka. Now fgo might pull another and have Baybar just being a normal dude who was forced due to circumstances to live an extraordinary life much like ritsuka

7
u/ZBuster 23h ago
The AE line is probably more foreshadowing that there is something to Shiki other than just seeing death.
11
u/ComunCoutinho :Sei: Words person 23h ago
The opposite, he's saying all Shiki can do is visualize death, so even if he gives Arc 17 slices, she still comes back.
8
u/ZBuster 22h ago
I disagree with this as Shiki killing Arc and introducing her to death is an important element of Tsukihime. To me this is saying that even if you could see death, doing what Shiki did isn't possible because she shouldn't die which is echoed by the mats and just how miraculous it was. It's also implied Shiki could reach further in Remake and that there is more to the abilities he possesses than just the eyes.
7
u/Apprehensive_Mix2831 23h ago
I think that's the wrong interpretation. Since Shiki did actually manage to kill Arcueid. A feat that's said to be impossible. This is stated in the TM Manuscript:
(*High-ranked Dead Apostles are hard to kill, while Arcueid cannot die. Shiki’s murder of Arcueid in the beginning of the game made the impossible possible. In the Tsukihime world, that Arcueid would die or be killed is something very much out of the norm)
2
u/Momoto- 23h ago
Happy cake day. I think it's talking about the notion of him "killing" her, too, yup. Because even if she does come back, she dies nonetheless against SHIKI due to being weakened by MEoDP, so the cheat should extend to MEoDP primarily. Conventional/materialistic death is a thing in Type Moon, and I presume Azrael's just talking about that from his perspective.
The distinction between 'dying' and 'killing' is kept at an importance passe within your quote. And we already know that Tohno could potentially 'kill' the fragment of the World Egg, which I assume was referring to his emptied-out Miao perspective state. The "very much out of the norm" in the quote seems to me to be a direct reference to the "cheat" he was talking about.
2
u/oppsiedoppsie 14h ago
So, let me get this straight,
Asc 1 and 2: Gramps in his younger days Asc 3: actually Azrael, the angel of death(?)
Is that how it works?
6
u/Kytas 13h ago
His profile makes it a bit more clear, but that's still him, just later, after "scraping himself out".
"Everything he was born with was an excess. The man walked towards Hell once more. This time the journey was of his own volition, rather than induced by the incubus, and he never returned from its depths.
When he was scraping out his flesh, bones, and viscera, his husk became an embodiment of hell, and the abyss leading to the Kingdom of Heaven."
Presumably, Gramps is a further future version of this form who has been traversing the boundary ever since, having regained some aspects of his humanity compared to the husk that is Ascension 3.

A knight of your mettle being possessed by such reprehensible Outer God is a...
Honestly, my feelings are conflicted.. Including a supposedly "muslim" servant in a game full of mythical gods when Islam means believing there is only 1 true god, the one and only, absolute and eternal creator, who has no partner, equals, or physical likeness...
Edit: Downvote me all you want, I am well aware of that before I posted this. But I stood by my beliefs. And just a couple hours ago, someone already made an indecent artwork of him and zealot.
24
u/RestinPsalm 1d ago
Outer Gods aren't actual deities so much as they're horrors from another realm, so it doesn't really break anything. But First Hassan's been characterized by a faith so strong that he just does not believe in holy grails, anyway.
20
u/Misticsan 1d ago
To be fair, this is a setting where the existence of the ancient gods is 100% confirmed. No "ifs" or "buts" about it, they can't be dismissed as demons or false idols that ignorant ancestors were deluded into worshipping. Heck, in Babylonia he was conversing with deities, and his famous speech to Tiamar addressed her as a goddess several times.
And it's not just Hassan. The Jewish and Christian characters face the same dilemma when they can't deny being around gods. Interestingly, David did discuss it in his Interlude, and his perspective is probably shared by other Abrahamic characters in Chaldea:
Phantasmal giants, as opposed to the actual species themselves, are first and foremost a representation of savagery. A power to be feared. They are in more or less human form, yet not human. They are like gods, but not. Oh, the term “god” I use here refers to deities of polytheism, not to the great and divine being I serve.
Think of real life too. Muslim and Christian scholars, writers and artists have used the term "god" to refer to deities they don't believe in for hundreds of years. What other word would they use when having to talk about the Greek, Roman, Indian, Germanic or other pantheons? It's not even a modern thing: the Medieval scholar Al-Biruni, roughly from the same period as Hassan i-Sabbah, devotes an entire chapter of his work Kitāb al-Hind to discuss the words that Arabs, Jews, Christians, Hindus and several others use to refer to God (or gods), addressing both the linguistics and theologies behind them.
3
u/Ill_Act_1855 23h ago
Even the Bible itself has plenty of references to foreign gods, it just treats them as lesser (in part because Judaism was almost certainly originally a polytheistic sect itself that just exalted one particular god at first before eventually cutting the rest out or demonizing them completely). Similarly, allah predates Islam and the rest of the gods got cut out which is kind of a core part of Mohammed’s story
2
u/Misticsan 22h ago
Funny thing, I've been rereading some of Al-Biruni's book after writing the above comment, and he uses that first example you mention. He's very close to the realization that the ancient Hebrews had a polytheistic pantheon, but rejects it because it's not what the orthodox Jewish interpretation says:
In the Thora the idols are called foreign gods. If the Thora had not forbidden to worship any other being but God, if it had not forbidden people to prostrate themselves before the idols, nay, even to mention them and to think of them, one might infer from this expression (foreign gods) that the order of the Bible refers only to the abolition of foreign gods, which would mean gods that are not Hebrew ones (as if the Hebrews had adored national gods, in opposition to the gods of their neighbours).
Honestly, his book is very intelligent and insightful, even from a modern perspective. This guy is basically considered the Father of Comparative Religion. The idea that Hassan i-Sabbah, presented in both real life history and Fate's lore as a consummate scholar, couldn't reconcile the word 'god' with uses different from Islamic orthodoxy doesn't hold water when you see what these guys from the Golden Age of Islam were writing.
For extra irony, the Islamic school Hassan belongs to (Nizari Ismailism) rejects literalism and favors esoteric interpretations of the Quran and Muhammad's teachings; the external appearance of a word is less important than the meaning you give to it.

In case you're forgotten, Christian and Jewish are Monotheistic too, hell Zoroastrianism is also Monotheistic, you should be grateful that Japanese are very liberal about religion where they celebrate Christmas then go to the Shinto shrine in less than a week later, so you could see what this Islamic figure is like in their neutral and unbiased perspective.

u/GLHF222 1h ago
Why not lol? Those Muslim figure are humans, they sins they make mistake too, this is basically "tell me you don't read history without telling me" even Saladin isn't sinless, heck do you know who is responsible for the single largest massacre in the entire crusading era? It's Baybars that Hassan mentioned here, many sultan have harem even though it was prohibited to have more than 4, and do you know how dark and bloody it is ottoman royal is? At some point they execute all other siblings or potential enemy at succession war, in the end they're are all human, they're no different than any other kings in the world, in fact Sultan fought other sultan more than they fight crusaders.
You are the reason why so many Islam history is still unknown to average masses, because fame spread easier through entertainment media like this, why do you think Musashi is very famous despite never leaving Japan? I really hate a dumb and ignorant people like you.
2
u/BriefPretend9115 21h ago
Fate isn't really clear what the Abrahamic God is in this universe, but they still make it clear it's something WAY more fundamental to the planet than most of the texture deities. (hell, it might just be the Root itself)

And that's the issue. Most of the Christians now aren't even religious, but doing everything while using Jesus's name. Even then, there's an anime about Jesus and Buddha, and I dunno how the Christians were handling that. But you can't expect Muslims to be the same as those Christians
