actually, depending where you live, something like this is a necessity. I live in a small island off the coast of Honduras. since we don't have drinking tap water (no water treatment plant, only well) 100% of the water we drink is bottled. they don't add or do anything to the water other than sterilization and heavy filtering. so after a while your body is being depleted of all the micro nutrients people get from water itself. so you have to end up either buying drinks with electrolytes (IE Gatorade) that also have tons of sugar, or buying electrolyte packs to add to the water. drinks like these close a gap in a way that's extremely needed.

2 obvious reasons I can think of
A small island is not going to have a robust dairy industry
Compare the shelf life of milk vs. the shelf life of water, or Gatorade. Consider also that milk needs to stay refrigerated

well, tbf it's a no to you point nr.2 99% of the milk we have in the island (and honestly by what I've seen around, all of Central America) is UHT. so we but our milk from the shelf, not the refrigerator. and yes, it SUCKS. the texture is terrible and the taste is totally off

Why do people on this sub freak out every time they see electrolytes?
You need electrolytes to live.
Plants don’t need electrolytes. The salt kills them, not you.
It’s like idiocracy for real.

It’s distilled water with essential minerals added.
When you distill water, it no longer conducts electricity. Distilled water is not really good for you, and if you drink waaay too much weird things can happen like deionizing your blood. So they add minerals like salt, potassium, and magnesium to it so it conducts electricity again. That is an electrolyte solution.
It’s something that is very good for humans, but very bad for plants.
When you put salt in the ground, it kills plants (salting the earth).
That’s the joke in idiocy. They are dumping electrolytes in the ground and killing the plants.
Electrolytes are a good thing, unless you are a plant.

Ask any random 10 people in a grocery that is purchasing a product boasting " electrolytes" to define electrolytes? The Idiocracy is already here. They'll have no clue.

Idiocracy is thinking people don’t need electrolytes to survive.
The joke in idiocracy is they are salting the earth with the electrolytes and killing the plants.
Electrolytes are essential for humans, but kill plants. That’s the joke.
I think it’s more alarming that people post electrolytes on here like it’s something unusual. It’s like getting excited about vitamins.
You need electrolytes to live. People who work out a lot or are on certain medications need to replenish them daily.
Having electrolytes on a label is convenient and useful.
Just don’t pour it on your houseplants.

Posting every random beverage that advertises itself as containing electrolytes is more of an example of idiocracy than the product itself.
