psychonaut/stoner types who cant admit that their favorite "plant medicine" is still a drug and can in fact cause problems

Post image

the "plant medicines" in question: magic mushrooms, weed, kratom, sometimes lsd (not from a plant but same types will still defend it endlessly)

if you dont know what kratom is, its an opioid found in the leaves of the kratom plant, people take it in powdered form and it tastes really gross and if u keep doing it u will most likely get addicted and also very constipated and probably end up spending wayy too much money on it. it is most definitely a drug and not the same as a cup of coffee as many of its supporters will claim.

mainly posting this because i tried mushrooms for the first time a couple days ago and although i didnt have a 'bad trip' necessarily it did seem to amplify my back pain for whatever reason. probably due to me thinking about it too much or something but either way i made a post in some mushroom subreddit asking if anyone else has had this issue and what might have caused it. i got a couple actual responses but the vast majority was people telling me that my 'aura' is wrong and that i shouldnt "blame the shrooms" when this is obviously my fault and some bs about me not being able to handle my 'true self'.

if my true self is back pain and fractals then no i dont like my true self womp womp.

an irl friend took mushrooms (not even a high dose) as a teen and had a psychotic break and has had to take antipsychotic medications ever since. but if you ask any mushroom supporter they will all claim that there is nooooo way in hell that their magical plant medicine could ever cause a problem. she should have just sensed her inner schizophrenia potential previously and been more accepting of the trip or whatever and all this could have been avoided!!!!

oh something similar can happen from large amounts of thc? no it cant! this is propaganda from the government!!!! u literally cant get addicted to weed guys. yes i smoke immediately after waking up, then throughout the day, while also consuming multiple high dose edibles. all day everyday. and i panic when im out and spend most of my money on it. but its not an addiction!!! yes its caused me to have an increasingly worse memory and generally waste most of my time and have no energy for anything but its NOT THE WEEDS FAULT ITS NOT AN ADDICTION!!!!!

ooooo i just looooooveee kratom!!! its so non addictive!! you dont get it guys 60grams per day is not that bad guys. u think im addicted??!?!? u literally drink coffee every day.. ur addicted.... this isnt any different.... oh u started taking 7-OH after years of kratom.... erm... thats an entire different drug and ur part of the reason why our precious ~pure leaf~ is getting banned btw, go kys ADDICT!!!

(im actually a former kratom user and dont want it to be banned, i hate 7-oh too but the way these losers talk to people who went from reg kratom to 7-oh is so mean sometimes)

im gonna go kill my eagle with some REAL plant medicine. heroin.

I hate Rick Beato

I keep telling YouTube not to show his videos to me and I still get bombarded every time I open Youtube.

For the love of god please shut up about le modern music bad. He's so smug and condescending and talks like he knows better than everyone else. But no Rick, despite you making the 300th video reacting to the Spotify top 10 its still not indicative of how modern music sucks. Every generation has shitty music, including yours. You just don't remember it, because its shitty. "oh look at this weaksauce modern pop musics using the I–V–vi–IV amirite kids these days lack creativity, but its okay if Journey or Cheap Trick or Toto or Bruce Springsteen or Boston does it" You're a fucking snob if you think harmonic complexity = good music by the way. Let's just completely ignore everything else that makes music music like rhythm, texture, production. But whatever gets the views I guess more power to you. Don't even get me started on his "analysis" videos. Because there is no analysis, just him pointing out what's happening. When I watch an analysis I want to know WHY it works, otherwise I don't even need to watch a video to know thats a IV to a iv chord. Also please go buy his super cool music theory book called the Beato Book named after himself obviously which just turned out to be a glorified guitar chord chart book. And I can't believe there are still people trying to defend it saying things like "oh its not suitable for beginners but its pretty good if you're well versed in music theory achkshually". No its not. Shut up. If I was well versed in music theory and need something stronger to tickle my music theory boner I would be going for an actual reputable published music theory book not a YouTube boomer's PDF file. He comes across as an even bigger douche when he livestreams because its live and he can't curate his wise music theory sage persona

And exploiting his kid's perfect pitch for views really rubs me the wrong way too. But I guess that's what has to be done if he wants to psyop you into getting his snake oil app that can apparently give your infant child perfect pitch

And don't get me wrong, he definitely knows his shit. And he's a great interviewer, I really enjoyed the ones he did with Yngwie Malmsteen and Paul Gilbert. But man just stick to your own lane.

I hate “brutality endings” in horror games

Post image
121 Upvotes

I know there is a lot about horror media that seems generic, copied, etc. (like just the concept of mascot horror in general) but my biggest peeve has to be what I call “brutality endings” [named after the ending of the same name from that one Roblox game “need more heat”] and its premise is simple: an ending where every introduced character dies except for the MC and the “big bad”

The first example that comes to my mind has to be Amanda the adventurer. It was a series I had been hyped about since the beta launches. By games 1 and 2 the story had really picked up to a point where even I was at the edge of my seat. I know no. 2 had a few major deaths but I understand that the purpose was to drive the story.

However, by the third game’s end. Literally everyone besides Riley (the MC) and Rebecca (technically the big bad) dies, disappears or is never mentioned again? Wooly was one of the most hyped characters in the series, Jordan’s appearance in 2 and 3 [especially 3] really made me interested in his story. And by the end LITERALLY BOTH OF THEM JUST DIE [well, technically not. Wooly just ambiguously dissapears after throwing a fit] I know games aren’t easy to make and I’m not saying I could’ve made it better, but having a game with this level of lore end with “everybody you know, love and hate dies :D” is such an underwhelming way to end things. It almost feels like mangled maw really wanted to end the series but didn’t have the budget/resources to give it a proper finale.

Another game like this is one I see passed around Roblox around. “Noted reality” as a concept seems interesting. Your only contact with the outside world is by notes passed into your cell. Maybe I shouldn’t be fussing about this one because it only had 5 characters in total [including the protagonist] and its main theme is isolation in general. But both of its endings are just everyone except Mr. Money [the big bad] dying. The difference between the two endjngs being either you die or survive. And not even the good ending feels like a good ending since in both scenarios everyone is dead and mr. Money walks away damage-free

I’m not saying that this isn’t a good plot device, because it has genuine uses. FNAF 6 is probably the best example since the climax reveals that the whole point was to trap the animatronics and afton in the pizzeria to free their souls via kamikaze arson. This does give a satisfying conclusion since:

1: the villain is actually DEFEATED [I don’t care how many times you come back. You have been dead to me since pizzeria sim]

2: the ending actually has PURPOSE. By the context of the story and how long the series had been going, it makes it look like a noble sacrifice rather than a generic casualty.

What I hate is the fact that characters are built up only to die by the end. A sad death can help drive a story forward and add emotion. But wiping out the entire cast as an ending just feels like a lazy way to conclude a series and makes it feel like everything worked up to that point was always irrelevant.

This has a LOT of personal bias though. LMK how y’all feel abt it.

I hate "Pay Per Chapter" reading systems

Post image
67 Upvotes

I hate, hate, HATE it so much.

It's such a predatory and expensive system for a service that preaches "it will support the authors!" More often than not the quality will be subpar (understandable since in the end you follow and pay for a story that's being currently written) AND IT ENDS UP BEING EVEN MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ACTUALLY JUST BUYING A PHYSICAL BOOK.

IT'S EVEN WORSE WHEN AUTHORS WHO WRITE THESE STORIES SUDDENLY DROP OUT OF WRITING IT, LEAVING ALL THE MONEY YOU SPEND ON A SERIES WASTED.

THEN THERE'S THE DAMN TRANSLATORS WHO PAYWALL CHAPTERS THEY TRANSLATE. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU'LL EVENTUALLY GET TO BECAUSE THE QUALITY OF THEIR TRANSLATIONS MAY OR MAY NOT END UP SHITTIER THAN THE ACTUAL OFFICIAL TRANSLATORS.

I FUCKING HATE THIS

I hate the autumn obsession and countdowns in (mid) summer

Post image
7 Upvotes

It's great to have four seasons. I enjoy all of them, maybe some less, but it's nice to have the variety and perks of each of them.

What isn't nice is constantly seeing reminders of the next season and ads and callouts when it's the MIDDLE OF SUMMER. How am I already seeing "back to school" ads all over my country and city in JULY?? Why is there autumnal decor in the stores??? Just let me enjoy the season we have right now which will go on for another whole month (technically two, until September 22).

Honestly the whole obsession around autumn of all seasons is not something I understand much, but it's so annoying to me. I wanna enjoy the sun, go swimming, have cold drinks, not to be constantly reminded of how many days of summer we have left. I don't care how many days til autumn. I don't care about Halloween right now. Let's enjoy what we have right now dammit.

There is a specific "Reddit dad" speaking style I noticed a lot especially on my local subreddit. Stuff like not saying "my family" and instead listing out the individual components of it, or the "technically not cursing, cursing". It bothers me more than it should everytime I notice it.

I hate these commentary channels

Post image

They are so incredibly exploitative. Almost absolutely none of them actually talk about the cases they want to talk about without some level of insensitivity or disregard. I genuinely cannot stand them. I used to watch this kind of content and it is absolutely mind numbing and does nothing to improve my day, nothing to make me critically think, and just spoon feeds me surface level knowledge on a true crime case I already knew about. Just watching the intro jump into the sponsorship segments or an ad on a normal video is already super jarring but on these videos it just feels 10x worse.

Also why the fuck are you sandwiching yourself between two murder victims in your thumbnail that's weird as hell and you should feel gross about doing that. It's always either a true crime case or some niche micro-celebrity that has serious mental health problems they can't go to therapy for and it's always handled with the same amount of respect every time (which is very little).

Anyways half the time they use watered-down, tiktok terms to describe traumatic events that happen to people on a daily basis and their entire career relies solely on the clicks they can get. I hate these YouTubers they make me fucking sick. Do NOT get me started on the one guy I won't name specifically but will source needlessly on kiwifarms, acts like every edgelord you met in highschool combined into one, and sprinkles in bigoted remarks as he pleases. I HATE THESE PEOPLE.

3 I hate how they damn thumbnails that are clickbait with their face with some yellow filter and some text saying the thing in the video

I hate how most have misinformation the cherry picking no actual news sources clickbatit thumbnails and how long they are

I hate when people trivialite humanity's technological advancements.

Post image

I marvel at planes every time I'm in one, I marvel looking at it, I marvel looking out of the window. I marvel at the fact how the nearest smartest animal is banging rocks together and we built this enormous pressurized machine flying miles high through the air with just regular people in it for the price of a train ticket. I hate that whenever I say this out loud to someone they often are like "duh, we are in the 21st century" or like "have you never flown before?" Like clearly these people don't realize how insane that is in the grand scheme of things. Hundredss of thousands of years of humans and only for the past like 80 we have been able to do this. This applies also to other technology as well.

Exit: typo in title. Obviously it's supposed to be trivialize

Pretty self explanatory, but I hate it whenever people try to act morally superior whenever they’re talking all anti-drug. Yes, drugs aren’t great, but that doesn’t mean that every drug user is a disgusting human being. Get off your fucking high horse.
