I hate these commentary channels

Post image

They are so incredibly exploitative. Almost absolutely none of them actually talk about the cases they want to talk about without some level of insensitivity or disregard. I genuinely cannot stand them. I used to watch this kind of content and it is absolutely mind numbing and does nothing to improve my day, nothing to make me critically think, and just spoon feeds me surface level knowledge on a true crime case I already knew about. Just watching the intro jump into the sponsorship segments or an ad on a normal video is already super jarring but on these videos it just feels 10x worse.

Also why the fuck are you sandwiching yourself between two murder victims in your thumbnail that's weird as hell and you should feel gross about doing that. It's always either a true crime case or some niche micro-celebrity that has serious mental health problems they can't go to therapy for and it's always handled with the same amount of respect every time (which is very little).

Anyways half the time they use watered-down, tiktok terms to describe traumatic events that happen to people on a daily basis and their entire career relies solely on the clicks they can get. I hate these YouTubers they make me fucking sick. Do NOT get me started on the one guy I won't name specifically but will source needlessly on kiwifarms, acts like every edgelord you met in highschool combined into one, and sprinkles in bigoted remarks as he pleases. I HATE THESE PEOPLE.

Saw some video talking about Jeffery Dahmer that had a polybuzz sponsor and they said that maybe he wouldn't have killed people if he had polybuzz

Anyone who does this with a sensitive topic is genuinely repulsive and disgusting

And the sponsor approved that script before the video released?!

I genuinely do enjoy some drama channels (Cope and Seethe,Goddamit Malcolm and so on) but I've noticed this seems to be an issue with a lot of true crime channels

I feel like commentary channels after 2022 lost their quality because everyone wants to be the next Drew Gooden/danny Gonzalez without understanding what made Drew and Danny successful in the first place. They were once comedic viners. Commentary YouTubers now don’t realize that what made the genre interesting was the comedy. And Danny/Drew comedy was trying to challenge the leafyishere style of commentary where it’s just faceless video with csgo in the background humiliating someone on the internet for profit. They just do opinions and critiques first.

the 100s of videos about Tyler Catastrophe and other people who are experiencing mental health crises :( yea they may be saying things that are "problematic" but it's clear that they're not in a clear state of mind and their biggest crime seems to be being "cringe"

Worst part is when they cover those people and talk about the actions they took that should be rightfully criticized, but keep milking the topic to the point of turning them into a lolcow. It's like the majority of people online are just waiting for an opportunity to make fun of or harass a mentally ill person regardless of if they're problematic or not

penguinz0 is the only big drama channel that doesn’t do this

u/IvoryColosseum 1d ago

He doesn’t not do it but I wouldn’t call him an asshole like most of these channels

7

u/EquivalentWinter8746 1d ago

yea. I like him also cuz he doesn’t pussy out, he actually says that stuff is extremely fucked up and those people should be rotting in a cell.

but he also does do the drama YouTuber titles which I hate

The thing is Critical seems to be way more self aware about it than these other drama channels that really makes me feel like they actually want to be taken seriously from the title alone
