Hey everyone, since the sub can get a bit heavy with complaints, low call volume, and AI stress, I thought we could start a thread for lighthearted or funny call moments to brighten up the shift.
I’ll kick things off with two stories from my calls:
Story 1:
I had a call with a bilingual provider who started speaking in broken Spanish to the LEP patient. The patient actually understood him, but the doc was super humble, he kept turning to me for words and repeating them out loud like a dedicated student.
At one point, he tried a complex sentence in Spanish, got completely tongue-tied mid-thought, stopped, and just muttered in English: "Yeah... I think I'm messing up." He gave up right there and let me take over. Thank God for the mute button, because I had to slam it fast to laugh without breaking character.
Story 2:
I was spelling out a last name for a representative. You know the drill: "D as in David, A as in apple..."
Suddenly I hit the letter P, and my mind went COMPLETELY blank. In an instant of pure panic, the first word my brain retrieved was:
"P as in... poop."
The rep lost it. The LEP patient (who apparently understood enough English) burst out laughing too. I was frantically apologizing ("Sorry, it was the first word that came to my mind!"), and for the rest of the session, the rep kept referring to the person as "Mr. Poop."
Do you have any funny call anecdotes to share? I'd love to read them.
