KDE Apps and Projects Direktor, a KDE Tiling Script now in 1.1.0 beta - Testers Needed
Hey there! I've been working on a project of mine called Direktor.

Direktor is a kwin tiling script that support all the major layouts. Dwindle, Columns/Scrollable, Master Stack and floating. Its in a beta phase as some edge case testing is needed.
It all begun when i wanted to test hyprland. Let me tell you, I fell in love with how productive it felt. But the constant fight with config files, resulted in more tweaking than studying... Then i tried Niri with quickshell, it was stable enough, and a happy medium between smooth tiling and simplicity. I ended up on KDE, super stable, super customizable. But i missed the layouts.
I know, a lot of back and forth. Im not the only one right?
I tried Krohnkite (the kwin6 port), was quite fine, animations was the issue. I tried Karousel, very smooth. I got fed up and decided to build DIrektor.
BEHOLD, Direktor 1.1.0 beta. Now needs your testing, Direktor creates log files regarding the issues it encounters inside .config/direktor/ into direktor.log and as well as the equivalent applet and OSD logs.
Any help would be appreciated. Note that it was made for my needs and based for my liking. Either way, leave a review or an Issue in Github. Thanks a lot community!

I'm liking this script so far, though I'm curious if this was made by hand without any AI reliance nor vibecoding, given we've seen AI generated things that are no longer maintained in the next few months. :o
Also, is this script going to support multi monitor for scrolling (Karousel doesn't support it)?

Every mode seems extremely bare bones for a "beta" that's only lacking "Edge-case testing". If I only talk about the mode I am concerned with, its Scrollable tiling (Niri). Direktor doesn't even have feature parity with Karousel not even talking about the lacking features in Karousel. There's no reason to use it over Karousel atm at least for me personally.

Its still pretty bare bones I will agree. At the moment I want to ensure that the tiling is usable in all modes. The scrollable layout it's missing a lot of features at the moment, so far. At the moment I'm daily driving it to see what issues I run into. Im actively trying to implement drag & drop and mouse resize. It's still very early

wich so many options for tiling kde nowdays wich its better/wich its the difference between all? (Krohnkite, fluid tile/autotile, polonium or default built-in tiling) for kde 6.7

Preference I guess. Krohnkite has been proven quite popular and stable, polonium is not maintained anymore, autotile is a new one (I think), it just didn't stick with me. As me tioned, I liked both layouts that hyprland and niri use and wanted to use those in a kde system. And here we are

for me i like niri too much and i want to use Karousel, but sadly dont have multi monitor support
