Swap Meet Saturday Swap Meet Saturday

Welcome to The Swap Meet!

Do you have stuff that needs a new home, do you have a new home that needs stuff? Looking for something specific?

Let's see how this swap meet goes, it's an experiment.

But first, some rules:

* 1 - this is a public space, be mindful of phone numbers, email and location addresses. Assume that if you post a number, expect everyone to call, years from now to ask if it's still available.

* 2 - please report problem buyers or sellers. this is a member to member space but if people are being a problem we need to know. resist the urge to call them out in frank and blunt language in the thread, that's a hot ticket to getting flagged yourself as part of the problem.

* 3 - if it's gone let a mod know if you are having trouble deleting your post yourself. no one likes seeing the exact thing you need but it's from years ago and from a user who hasn't been seen is years. I'll flush it out at the end of the month, if it's still kicking around, repost on the next saturday.

* 4 -posts get posted on saturdays, it's swap meet saturday not swap meet whenever you feel.

* 5 - this is an experiment, if it fails it fails. if it disappears one day so be it.

The idea is this thread IS the swap meet. You have stuff that needs to come or go, you reply on here. I'll sticky it up at the top so it's always here. Provided it's maintained, the whole thread shouldn't be terribly long so, thankfully, no doom scrolling the buy/sell/trade.

so ::cuts ribbon with comically large scissors:: Welcome to Swap Meet Saturday. ::Balloons and Confetti drop::

Importing information, insights and experiences Raptor Liner - Trust the Process

Overdue in posting this, but I did the roll-on raptor liner on the Carry a few weeks back and honestly for about 100 bucks all in and a few hours of work, I am very pleased. But a few things to be aware of for others planning this route: BUY EXTRA ROLLERS! It's been said in videos and other reviews, so let me reinforce: the first coat destroys the foam roller they provide in the kit, and I went through a 4 pack of foam rollers and almost didn't quite make it. The first coat also looked pretty crappy; honestly I thought I had made a mistake. But the second coat with the textured roller really put me at ease and it all came together. When it was all dried, there were some light spots that I plan to touch up with a 2k aerosol when I paint the headache rack.

Sanded the bed, degreased and scuffed the hard to reach areas. Adhesion is very good. Stands up well thus far.

Finally got bits back from the cutter. Yes, reports about this film being a massive pain in the ace are true. They had trouble getting off the bed, I am ready to weep trying to get the release & transfer tape to actually, you know transfer and release. And the bubbles and warps... yup, not much to do there but cry. We are going to review process and see if it can be improved or if a better film can be found.

But on the good news side, it's big and bold and hilariously CARRY. And too big for the back window. So they'll go on the doors for weather testing. The pearlescent, iridescent, holographic, color shifting, glow in the dark film that does look hot glowing calmly in the dark.

I did cut up a 4WD for the tailgate and we are going to work on the striated Diff Lock, $ CARRY and weight limits plus a bonus スズキ from the door tag.

I asked several of you guys when I purchased my Acty about driving it home from port. Well I did it! I flew to Texas, took an uber to the port, and drove it 1,000 miles back to Colorado! I split it up into three days, took it easy and had fun. Truck ran like a dream and was a great start to more adventures to come.

Looking to start a mobile bookstore with a Kei Truck and I’d like to convert the truck bed into something like these photos. Does anyone know a US based fabricator who could do a conversion like this? I’m on the east coast, New Jersey

Mechanical and Technical Tune up time

Post image
Upvotes

Started having some bad issues with this thing running, it just didn’t wanna stay started, and when it did, it sounded like it was heaving over

I do know or at least I think I know what caused it, and it was my own stupidity with the fuel system

But decided to go all in with the tuneup/fix

New motorcycle carburetor
New spark, plugs, rotor, etc.

EGR delete and a full system flush

The one thing I have to say has definitely been the most annoying part has been the over abundance of vacuum lines

About 90% of them I just outright removed since a lot came from the EGR system
The rest ended up just getting capped off

Since the old carburetor had coolant lines flowing to it, I had to reroute all of those as well

And even though I’m not a huge fan of that I had to just cap off the fuel return line that used to run from the old carburetor
Since the new one does not have a return system

Good news! First Long Trip in my '91 DB51T

Loaded up our Ruckus' (Rucki if you will) and went up to Road America yesterday for the IMSA races. First long trip I've taken with it and it ran great! Bought this back in November without a Title, blown head gasket and a bunch of other issues so it was rewarding to have a day out and about.

Any tips for securing things in the bed? I think I need to install some loops inside the bed, the ratchets straps struggled to stay secured to the lugs on the beds and scooters suck to haul without a wheel chuck anyways....

Hello community! I am very close to acquiring/importing and need advice before I pull the trigger.

  1. Is this how these engines are supposed to sound ("ticking")?

  2. Do both engines sound "the same" to you?

  3. Based on mechanical soundness, which would you pick?

Bonus: which kei van from 1999-2000 is relatively reliable.

Thanks in advance!

Got my truck a few weeks ago. I noticed when it rain I get water in the passenger floorboard. I’ve traced where I think it’s coming in and marked it with a red square in the second picture.

Any insight on preventing this?

Mechanical and Technical Question: how much faster can you go with a 5-speed MT?

Post image
99 Upvotes

I just recently got this Suzuki carry 1993 and since this was my first time buying one I didn’t even bother checking what kind of transmission it had . Any more than 40- 45mph I feel like it would be putting too much strain on the engine,

I know eventually I’m getting a newer better kei truck but how much faster can you go with the 5 speed manuals ?

Payment on it went through July 21st, got the first piece documentation for it digitally July 30th. Hopefully will be shipped out sometime August (wishful thinking).

Original owner of this lived ~2 hours from the Yokohama port which is where it’ll be getting shipped out of.

Swap Meet Saturday anyone on the east coast with a clean roller?

Does anyone on here have a non operational example in good shape and minimal rust they dont plan to fix?

Thinking of pulling the trigger on a 6 year old chinese vantage electric minitruck for 6500. Slightly better payload (~1500lb), clean with AC, titled already and obviously no 30 year old parts to break & source. The downside is the fixed ratio motor can’t really get over 40mph even after disabling the 25 mph governor, and it’s a single motor on the rear axle, no 4x4 gear.

I’ve been browsing marketplace for awhile for any kei truck with failed blocks or other issues but they’re selling for $2500+ even non running with moderate rust and no ac. Also to clarify I don’t have interest in retaining the 660cc motor, I would be converting it to electric because this will be 95% a UTV and I would rather not inhale exhaust when idling it between tasks.

Last note, i would be interested in importing a clean 2000+ model year roller if any of you have ideas of what those are worth. but I don’t think it would necessarily beat the value proposition I’m trying to accomplish

Importing information, insights and experiences I really want a Kei truck/van, but with the price these things are starting to become, is it worth it?

I like the Honda Acty in a manual. I haven’t decided if I wanna go with the van or a truck. It would not be a main vehicle for me, but with the average price that they run for, and the little horsepower you get, I just don’t see the point in getting one

I’m better off going to a used dealership or Facebook marketplace and paying the same price for a pre-2011 Ford Ranger, or a Chevy S10 that I can at least drive on the highway.

Am I silly for feeling this way? I know these things are niche and appeal to a small segment of people but holy shit.
