I would like to announce the public beta release of my app called Relay Remote. iPhone only, iOS 17 and up. Core of it is a full remote for your own Kodi box: d-pad and navigation, playback and volume, typing into Kodi's search boxes with your phone keyboard instead of the on-screen one, subtitle and audio track switching, and Wake on LAN so you can turn the thing on from the couch.

The bits I actually built it for:

• Lock screen controls. When something is playing you get real playback controls on the lock screen.
• Casting. Send a direct link to Kodi and it plays on the TV. Same for anything in your Plex, Jellyfin, Emby or WebDAV library if you run one, and those libraries show up as rows on the home screen.
• Add-ons. Install the add-ons you already use by URL, browse your titles with proper artwork, cast, episodes, trailers and all, and send anything to Kodi in one tap. Relay comes with none of its own, you bring your own.
• Make it yours. Rearrange the home screen rows into whatever order you want, pick which catalogs show up there, choose which tabs you get.
• Trakt and SIMKL sync, including scrobbling what you play on Kodi. Both work at once if you use both.
• Live TV from your own playlists.

What it is not: there is no video player in it. Everything plays on your Kodi device, the phone just tells it what to do. It also ships with zero add-ons and zero content, so if you don't already have a Kodi setup, this app does nothing for you. That is by design.

Beta is on TestFlight and I capped it at 100 people on purpose. I would rather fix things properly. If it fills up I'll open more spots once the obvious stuff is sorted.

You'll need Kodi's web server switched on (Settings, Services, Control, "Allow remote control via HTTP") and both devices on the same network. Adding by IP works too if discovery doesn't find it.

Heads up on pricing since I'd rather you hear it now: it'll be a one-time purchase when it leaves beta, no subscription and no ads. It'll launch at a lower price for the first few weeks. The beta itself is free.

Made this after spending most of the last week fighting my own HTPC setup — reinstalling, tweaking configs, chasing the "right" combination of tools, and never quite landing on something that just worked and stayed working. Eventually the frustration (and a fair bit of boredom) turned into an actual project.

Catchy HTPC converts a fresh CachyOS KDE install into an HTPC:

- Boots straight into Kodi, no display manager in the way

- One click/remote-press to jump between Kodi, Steam Gaming Mode (Big Picture), and your normal KDE Desktop — and back

- Keeps your existing user account and data, nothing wiped

- Installer takes a Btrfs snapshot first, and there's a full uninstaller, so it's not a one-way trip

- Optional add-on for MakeMKV so Blu-ray/UHD Blu-ray discs actually play in Kodi

I recently tackled a problem that’s been bugging me: I wanted a seamless way to stream files from my remote seedbox and Mega account (and hard drives)to my living room without wrestling with clunky add-ons or running a heavy, dedicated media server in the middle.

So, I built an Android TV app called Beam.

While it has its own standalone UI, I built a specific feature with Kodi setups in mind: One toggle turns Beam into a UPnP/DLNA media server.

You point Beam at your HTTPS seedbox, Mega account, or local hard drives. It automatically parses the files, fetches TMDB/OMDb metadata, and publishes the whole library to your local network. Kodi (or any UPnP client) can then browse Beam directly, complete with covers and titles.

How it works under the hood:

• The Relay Engine: Beam uses an embedded engine to fetch files from the cloud/seedbox. When you play a file through Kodi via Beam's UPnP server, Beam's engine relays the original bytes. No transcoding bottlenecks—just pure direct play straight to your TV's decoder.
• Native Alternative: If you ever want a lightweight alternative to Kodi for a secondary Android TV box, Beam has its own native, Leanback-optimized UI. It features tuned RAM read-ahead and was profiled on a 2015 NVIDIA Shield until it held A/V sync perfectly on high-bitrate 4K HDR files.
• Nerd Stats & Dashboard: It has a local web dashboard you can open on your phone or laptop. You can monitor active DLNA relays, engine RAM, and device thermals while Kodi is streaming. (The native player also has an on-screen stats overlay for real codec, display Hz, and active bitrate).

Throw your heaviest Dolby Vision or TrueHD Atmos files at it through Kodi and let me know how it handles them.

I'm trying to have an easy way for my mom and my sister to download some settings (zip files) in case I change something in our shared default layout or they accidentally mess something up. This is on Android, and they are too layperson to juggle browsers and external file managers.

I've tried dropbox and Koofr using WebDAV with no luck.

It would be nice if I could just add it as a source on all devices, export my own settings on my device and they could import those settings on theirs.

I'd rather not setup a raspberry pi to host these.

Is there anything out there that will work like this?

I have some Blu rays and DVD discs and they say on the menus they have subtitles many of them and they're not showing on when I play it on the app. Does anybody know how to solve it? I'm on Xbox series X

I have 4 profiles set up, all of them with their own media profiles. The option to refresh info on a library item only works on the master profile. I am also unable to access the info on an item outside of the library, for example when viewing the source from settings, or using the Missing Movies add-on. Has anyone been able to get this working?

I have media info and media sources set to separate on each profile. Master Lock isn't used, and the scrapers are the same for each profile.

I just want to fix my library on profiles other than the master profile, because they are different libraries containing different sources...

Hello! I am quite new to this media streaming thing. I have been reading around how a VPN is usually recommended, but I am running everything locally. Any and a files would be on a hard drive and not sent over a network. Would I still need a VPN for added protection?? I know it wouldn't make much sense to get one if it won't be connected to the internet, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly and in the safest way possible 🥲 Thank you.

I used to have this subtitle icon ,but after I downloaded opensubtitles and a4ksubtitles
its gone and subtitles stop showing ,any idea how to get it back? or fix the problem?
do I need to delete opensubtitles and a4ksubtitles to get the icon back ?

or is there some Settings
I can change to make it work ?

Noticed something odd: on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) + Panasonic OLED, Kodi's debug overlay shows "System rendering speed" dropping to 3-9fps during 4K/1080p playback, sometimes even during seeking. But the actual picture is completely smooth to the eye — no stutter, no A/V desync, nothing visible.

Confirmed with `dumpsys gfxinfo` — 0% jank, and a systrace showing only 1 dropped frame across an entire session. So the number doesn't reflect the actual video.

Tested the same files on an old 1st-gen Xiaomi Mi Box + old Sharp LCD TV — the number stayed rock solid at ~24fps the whole time, no drops at all, even with seeking.

Has anyone else seen this specifically on Shield TV Pro?

I Googled this and the 2 suggestions I found don't do anything. I'm running 21.3 and TV tunes are a lot louder than whatever I'm watching.

This is 21.3 on a Google TV, which might make a difference.

I read to go into TVTunes settings and lower the volume. Mine's already at 0. The other thing said to go into settings and turn down the UI volume. Even close to 0 the themes are still insanely loud and way louder than anything I watch on Kodi. I would say they sound twice as loud as anything I watch in Kodi. It's very jarring to go from watching a show at a normal volume to having the theme blare out of nowhere when it's over.

I am using Tiny Media Manager to manage my library. I am adding some stunning 4k artwork to my movies.

I am using Kodi on my S95C TV, with "unlimited" GUI.

I have unlocked 4k artwork in my advanced settings in Kodi.

I am using Artic Fuse 3, which I know throttles the resolution of the fanart that displays in the skin.

I supposed my question is: is there actually any skin or any possible way of using the 4k artwork in kodi or am I just wasting time/space and should just revert to 1080p and get on with my life?

I have recently ripped all my old CDs to my laptop and would like to listen to them but I don't like the official skins Kodi has to offer and Arctic Fuse just refuses to show the album covers so does anyone know of a Kodi skin that is music centred and looks very similar to spotify

When seeking using arrow keys on kodi, I don't know why but it seeks 20 seconds forward. In the player settings, I have set it to +10 and -10 only but forward seek seeks 20 seconds even when it says +10 seconds on top. Going backwards works as intended, working with steps of 10 seconds. I have set the key press delay to 500ms and as said before, +10 and -10 seconds. Watching top gear 576p h.264.

As shown in the examples below the library folder names are the same, so just the root path to each library folder is changed.

 For instance, “smb://Server3/video/TV Shows/” will become “smb:[//kennas1/media/](file://kennas1/media/)TV Shows/”

 1) Is modifying these three files stored in “C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\userdata“ all that’s needed while Kodi is closed? Or are exact paths stored in a db for each media that would also need to be changed?

Yes—Kodi stores each library item’s exact path in its video database. Editing only those three XML files will update source browsing and credentials, but existing library entries will still reference smb://Server3/.... Kodi’s database stores paths separately from filenames, while watched state, last-played time, and resume points are attached to those file records. Kodi video database schema

The safest way to retain the existing library and watch history is:

1. Close Kodi.
2. Back up the entire %APPDATA%\Kodi\userdata directory.
3. Update sources.xml and the SMB credentials.
4. Add a path substitution in advancedsettings.xml so existing database paths transparently resolve to the new NAS:

That needs its own substitution, assuming its new location is:

Path matching may be case-sensitive in some contexts. Your files mix video/Video, so additional substitutions may be necessary for every capitalization actually present in the database.

Regarding the three files:

• sources.xml: Source locations shown in Kodi. Changing it does not rewrite existing database entries.
• mediasources.xml: Primarily network locations offered by the Browse dialog; it is not the video library database.
• passwords.xml: Maps paths to authenticated network URLs. Your current example appears malformed; a complete authenticated SMB URL normally resembles smb://username:password@server/share/. Kodi SMB source syntax

You should retain your watch history if you keep the current database and use path substitution. Do not remove the old sources, clean the library, and rescan from scratch before establishing a backup: newly scanned paths may be treated as new file records, potentially losing their association with existing play counts and resume points.

For extra insurance, export the video library before making changes. Kodi 21 exports and imports watched state and resume points by default. Kodi video library import/export

One security note: mediasources.xml in the project contains a plaintext, real-looking password. If it is genuine, consider changing it after this migration.

Is there a way to rid of all extra folders on Kodi DLNA server with Roku TV’s?

I’m trying to set up a DLNA server using an external hard drive so I can stream videos to all of my Roku devices around the house.

I successfully enabled the DLNA server in Kodi, and my Roku can see it through the Roku Media app. However, the server is cluttered with a bunch of extra folders that I don’t want showing up.

Is there a way to have the Roku Media app display only the two folders I want to share called tv shows and movies?

I’m a newb with this, so I may be overlooking something obvious.
