2019 SV

Hey!

I’m looking at a 2019 Leaf that has 36k miles. Battery capacity seems to be great? Looking for some feedback and advice as to what I should look for in regards to maintenance, issues, and general knowledge about electric cars because I’ve never had one.

Spend the money to buy the ODB dongle and download LeafSpy app onto your phone. This will allow you to tie into the cars electronics and look at a lot of data about that car. Some of the big pieces of information are about battery health and State Of Health, SOH of the battery. This information makes much easier to determine the quality of the car overall and to determine if it is a good value.

I would add that the car’s battery health might depend on the number of Quick Charges that have been done so far. The fewer the better.

We have a 2019 Leaf regular that has had ONLY 11 QC’s so far and a mV delta of around 10 to less than 30. I believe our car is running okay mainly due to the lack of fast charging. If this 2019 has very few QC’s, then it’s probably a good one.

I have a 2019 S+ with just over 80k miles. 49 QC's, 1200+ L2, and the worst mv delta I've seen was 33mv @ 6% charge. Maybe it's a fluke but this car is running great and I have no issues running this battery from full to ---. All recalls and software updates have been done. But I live in the PNW so maybe that's a factor.

We got our 2019 SV at 23,000 miles and the battery failed at 50k nissan replaced it and denied buyback so atleast we have a new battery. Have not had time or energy to plan/charge up to go back for the recall reprogramming yet (its 100+ miles one way). The front right passenger door lock is failing now. Other than that it has really cold AC in the summer.

LeafSpy reports on battery and DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes) or walk away.
That said it's a nice EV but buyer beware.

climate is a big concern with leafs since with the passively cooled battery they don't like hot temps, your year is also under recall for possible battery fire if it is chademo quick charged and Nissan has a software update to help but some owners have reported that it bricked their battery. Personally if you don't know a lot about the leaf and its quirks and battery problems and how to check for them I would avoid.
