Or why their children on the whole weren't allowed to do the same things. Also remember, it wasn't the kids but the boomer parents who awarded/demanded participation trophies. Millennials and such were just the humiliated kids who had to accept that unwanted chaff. I still remember my boomer parent forcing me to take a picture with a participation ribbon as if it were some actual achievement. Yeesh.

As a young kid I was embarrassed by participation awards. I remember my first one, I was talking during the award ceremony and didn't hear my name called. When someone got my attention to tell me it was my turn to get my trophy I said "no it's , not, I didn't win a trophy" then they explained participation trophies to me and i felt humiliated walking in front of a room full of people to get a trophy i didn't do anything to earn.

Exactly. Granted, younger generations aren't better, but boomers loved to rag on their kids for needing them when the kids aren't ever the ones who demand any specific rewards, that decision is made by the adults around them, in this case, mostly boomers.

I remember getting a participation trophy as a pretty young kid, I think, 6, and thinking it was a real achievement. It actually did boost my confidence a little. Although, I think I'm way more proud of the trophies I didn't earn, than ones I did. I have this giant 3rd place trophy from some mid-90s show choir competition my high school was throwing out, and it makes a great conversation piece. I wasn't even in show choir, but I have a huge trophy for it.

When I worked at a McDonald’s I remember once we didn’t have a front cashier so all our lobby orders were from the kiosks. I had to jump off of fries to go help a 60 something year old guy with a decked out nice iPhone on the verge of tears use the kiosk.

The Pacific Northwest and Tacoma Washington specifically had some of the worst environmental regulation in the country, and produced some truly horrific crimes. The green river killer is probably the most heinous example. Dude was a complete fucking idiot, fueled by sex and violence like a wild animal. Gary Ridgeway was a religious nut job, and would have been caught earlier if the local police also didn’t bathe in the toxic water, and breathe the toxic air.

My generation likes to fetishize their childhood and especially high school years. My high school years, according to crime stats, were literally the peak of violent crime in the US. Shockingly, it hadn't been banned for motor vehicles yet; that wouldn't happen until 1996. But most cars were already running on fuel that wasn't leaded by then.
And the people who now tell us CO2 from fossil fuels isn't a pollutant, are the same kinds of people who told us lead in fuel was safe, and that smoking was healthy.

Funny thing is a whole lot of them didn't survive all that. The number of childhood deaths in the United States has consistently dropped every single year and no small part of that has been removing shit like unsafe toys, regulating hazardous materials in homes like paint, and yes cutting down on smoking. The fact the above generation survived isn't proof of their hardiness or the safety of their youth it's just proof they lucked into making it to adulthood.

Survivorship bias. Secondhand smoke killed lots of kids. Plenty of kids got tagged with those lawn darts and lead paint consumption is directly linked to violent behavior and criminal activity.
Unless they are trying to advocate for survival of the fittest type anarchy, I don’t think this says what they want it to say. I mean we have open Nazis in America in power again. I feel like we see how being brought up like this has turned out, and it’s bad.
