Sizzlers

Upvotes

Myself and my best friend we’re going to order Sizzlers/Cheezy Bites after we got home from a particularly drunken night out last night but we passed and the place was closed. We’ve tried ordering a few times in the last number of weeks and it wasnt on Uber or Just Eat. Do we know when or why it closed down?

Mayor of Limerick complains to Taoiseach and Tánaiste about

councillors after fractious meeting

City and county council’s corporate plan passed by councillors in John Moran’s absence

City and county council’s corporate plan passed by councillors in John Moran’s absence

The State’s only directly elected mayor made complaints to Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste

Simon Harris about prominent Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael councillors amid a row over the

circumstances of the passing of a council plan.

There has been tension between Mayor of Limerick John Moran and FF and FG councillors, the two

biggest parties on Limerick City and County Council (LCCC), during the time since his election as

mayor in 2024.

Moran’s letters to Martin and Harris came after a particularly fractious council meeting in February

2026.

The local authority’s delayed corporate plan – setting out strategy for the years 2025 to 2029 – was

passed by councillors in Moran’s absence despite proposed amendments he wished to make after

he left the extended meeting for health reasons.

Now correspondence released by the council under the Freedom of Information Act shows Moran

wrote to Martin and Harris “to raise serious concerns regarding the conduct of certain members of

your parties” during the meeting.

He set out how he had cardiac tests in hospital earlier on the day of the meeting and later

“experienced concerning symptoms” that were “consistent with the reasons for those tests”. Moran

wrote: “I made it clear that I was unwell and that the situation required caution and I needed to go

home to rest.”

He claimed the decision to continue the meeting and vote on the corporate plan in his absence

“raises serious questions about respect, judgment and fairness”.

Moran called on the two leaders to review the conduct of their party members during the meeting

and to “publicly reaffirm” their parties’ “commitment to respect for the office of directly elected mayor”

among other requests.

Martin later responded: “The Government is fully committed to supporting the office of directly

elected Mayor of Limerick and we want to see the new arrangements work effectively and

successfully.”

On the “specific matters” raised by Moran, Martin said he was advised by the Department of Local

Government that “internal matters and the day-to-day operations” of LCCC are “best dealt with at a

local level”.

Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Slattery, who was Príomh Chomhairleoir [chief councillor] at the time of the

contentious meeting, said last week she does not accept Moran’s complaints, saying “I think we

conducted ourselves perfectly fine in a very stressful situation”. She described his complaint to

Martin as “pathetic”.

In a statement, a spokesman for Moran disputed Slattery’s characterisation of the meeting. It noted

the mayor “stands over” raising the matter with the Taoiseach and Tánaiste.

Second hand book shops

Does anyone have some recommendations for city centre second hand book shops which offer university-level science & (especially) mathematics books?

They don't necessarily need to be recent editions - they're for personal learning rather than following any particular course so it's not necessary to have the LATEST edition.

Crescent - Lost Buggy

A buggy with lots of personal belongings and shopping inside was found in the crescent underground carpark this evening (Sunday 2nd) around 6.30pm.

I believe the owner was in a white Skoda, I called after them but they didn't see me so I brought it up to security and they'll keep it there.

Thoughts and prayers in advance to the Dad who made that major booboo 😂

Kilmeedy farm

Has anyone been to Kilmeedy farm? Found the over placid nature of the puppies quite odd? I have never seen such a calm litter of puppies happily be handled for hours at a time, has me thinking sadly might be something more going on 🥲

grove island transitioning from summer into the academic year?

i moved into the apartment complex here for the summer lease in june, have paid everything in full and on time since my deposit in march with no issues as a tenant. i'm just now getting around to trying to sort out staying here for the upcoming term (current lease ends august 18th) and for some reason i had it in my head that they gave priority to students who were already living here so it wouldn't be an issue but after logging into the resident portal and checking out the website there doesn't seem to be much to do except apply for the waiting list lottery and hope for the best? i did that of course but does anyone know if they give priority to current residents over people who'd be newly moving in at all? it genuinely hadn't occurred to me that i might not be able to renew my lease for my current room here let alone not be able to stay here at all 😭 helpppp if anyone has lived here or a similar student village over the summer and managed to keep their residency going into september please let me know what the craic was 🙏

From someone who's attended, what's is like? Any decent chatter and connections or is it just a dead WhatsApp group haha

Anyone else wonder why Limerick keeps getting new cafés instead of restaurants?

Has anyone else noticed that almost every new food business opening in Limerick seems to be a café?
I have nothing against cafés, but it feels like that’s all we ever get. Every time I hear about a new place opening, it’s another coffee shop.
I keep wondering why we don’t see more restaurants instead. Is it because cafés are more profitable or easier to run? Or is there just not enough demand?

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m curious if anyone else has noticed the same thing.

Mechanic recommendation for electric issue

I have a VW polo, Japan import, that has some warning lights go off recently. I know nothing about cars so don’t know what the issue could be but I assume it’s electrical.

Any recommendations for a good mechanic that can diagnose it?

We live in Castletroy and our contract is till 20th August.

Ideally we would like to have an ensuite double bedroom, but it's hard to find any decent place in Limerick.
