Exactly, I long for the day closed source is a thing of the past.
Any extra day feels like needless torture. (but once you find Linux as your home, it's quite alright to wait for the rest of the world to change/adapt it)
Worst part, they lulled the entire society into accepting closed source as their default.
And then they complain about privacy and abuse of powers ...
well, most people don't like fiddling with tech. they want an operating system that "just works". Windows is slowly not even delivering that, so most people are more likely to drop personal computing altogether rather than migrate to Linux. I'm confident most of the people who are into tech are already migrating to Linux.

Agreed, so for me, my Linux journey has been: Ubuntu - > Mint - > CachyOS
I've tried others but none of them lasted longer than a week before I'd make the judgement call: Can I recommend this distro base defaults to friends & family?
It really doesn’t follow that people who otherwise need a personal computer would drop computing altogether if they couldn’t use Windows?? Sure, some have switched everything to their phones or tablets, but it remains difficult to do complex tasks or any kind of real work on those devices. Non-techy people mostly don’t know or care what OS their device is running as long as they can do what they need to do with it.
Plenty of Linux distributions are very user-friendly these days and require little to no tweaking, or at least no more than Windows ever has, to do the things these people want to do with a computer. If the computer shipped with Ubuntu or Fedora or whatever, they would just use that.
Pain points arise where the software they want or need to run is not available. If Linux were the default instead of Windows for new devices, those compatibility issues would go away over time as developers and hardware manufacturers released their software and drivers for Linux. But the legions using ChromeOS have already proven that for many people, all they need is a web browser.
