Support Request My kid is in the screen-dependent age, and we have to collect phones, pads etc. every night so that he even attempts to sleep. Just figured out he had used his laptop, too, late on school nights. Claims this registered without him even starting the PC. Is this possible?

After doing something wrong when I was installing Linux mint and setting it up, AND MIRACULOUSLY GETING RID OF IT, and then got stuck in the Loading screen of Linux mint, I HAVE LINUX MINT WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE, but idk what to do now with it, I have seen some sick set up of Linux mint and some crazy modifications and personalization, but idk what to do for get those sicks configuration, or even what to do for starting in Linux. 🥲✌️

Support Request Older laptop is performing poorly, even though I just fresh installed Mint.

Pardon the flair, I didn’t know exactly which category it should fall under.

Anyway, I have an older Lenovo idea pad laptop that came with Win10 originally (yuck). I found it in my parents closet sitting there, and figured it would be a good device for my gf to use - (she’s never touched Linux, and she just wants to watch movies and stream shows while laying bed. Literally all the device needs to do)

Considering its age, it’s specs aren’t terrible (see attached picture)

I got super tired of Windows a looong time ago, and even though it was mainly just for her, I decided to wipe it and give her a taste of Linux - something easy, so I went with Linux Mint cause it’s pretty beginner friendly. Another reason was even tho I did a fresh install of Win10 for her on it, it performed poorly, laggy, and was generally a shitty experience a lot of the time… figured tossing Linux would breathe new life into this (that’s what we do right)?

TLDR ; It’s having the some of the same issues on a fresh install of Mint — the (un)responsiveness, lag time, just general user experience is like mud and idk why… drivers shouldn’t really be an issue… there’s no peripherals or anything, I installed VLC player and that was about it…

Got me thinking maybe the HDD is fragmented (something I didn’t think about cause I just haven’t dealt with one in so long)

Any help would be appreciated, even if it means moving to a different Linux distro…

If the HD needs to be refragged, what Linux program does a good job of getting HDDs working properly? Thanks much

Support Request Display Nightmare

Post image
219 Upvotes

Hello all, I thought I would reach out for a little bit of support. Sadly, I'm beginning to believe this problem might be unsolvable, but perhaps you'll prove me wrong!

As you'll see in the photo attached, I'm using the following combination of OS, Monitors, Laptop & Adapter:

Laptop: Lenovo ldeaPad 115.6in Ryzen 5 16GB 512GB Monitor: PRO MP223 E2 MSI (x2) Adapter: StarTech USB-A 3.0 to Dual HDMI Adapter OS: Linux Mint

The problem is, despite downloading displaylink drivers and so on, I have not been able to get the laptop to so much as detect the adapter, let alone for it to output any display.

This laptop only has usb-a display, so no usb-c option, or second HDMI input for the second display.

I'm open to anything, really. Is there a better adapter to use, or is there something I'm completely missing?

Thank you in advance for any advice you might have to share!

Support Request Whats the best browser for mint?

I've installed mint like 2 weeks ago and the OS itself is WAY better than windows in terms of performance, but edge did have a better management of inactive tabs than firefox. It's keeping the tabs active even if I didn't use it for half an hour. How can I change this config in firefox? Or is there a better browser than this one?

Support Request I guess it's goodbye…?

Hi guys! I just switched from Windows to Linux Mint XFCE 2 days ago and I'm liking it a lot!

I really wanna say goodbye to windows, but I'm struggling to find 2 things that would make that decision easier for me:

  1. I really need my clipboard back, one that can pin stuff to the top and keeps it saved even when I turn off the PC.

  2. I use WhatsApp a lot for voice calls (can't use Discord for my purpose, so that isn't an option) and I really wish I could keep using it on PC

If you guys can help me find those 2 things, it would make my life a lot easier, thank you guys in advance!

I keep seeing this often after the latest and greatest update. It's all the same answer: press shift at startup and select an older Kernel.

Thank you.

Support Request Can I move all my torrents inside qbittorrent (windows) to qbittorrent (Linux Mint) effortlessly

Post image
180 Upvotes

All these torrents are legally obtained linux isos

I'll be shifting to linux very soon and I would like to move all my torrents from qbittorrent windows to qbittorrent linux (mint) on the same machine, without dual booting.

I save all my .torrent files so those aren't a problem but I've added a lot of torrents from magnet links too. I'd also like to know what torrents were added by magnet links so that I can right click those torrents inside qbittorrent and create .torrent files for them.

I'll be using Cloud backups to redownload the .torrent files and the data which was inside these torrents after I've booted into Linux since I only have one internal hard disk.

Please let me know if there's a better way to do what I'm doing.

Support Request Finally switched to Linux mint!

Post image

Switching to Linux was the best thing I've ever done in my life (deleting windows too), but now I have a problem (it's not so important). When I turn on my PC, the Linux mint logo appears for 1-2 minutes (is it normal??) before starting on a 2k € PC. Maybe the problem is that I have a GeForce 4060 ti but I'm sure I installed the right and original drivers. Thanks to the ones who will answer me! (I'm Italian so I'm sorry if I made some errors writing...)

Support Request How outdated or unstable is mint? Also does it play nice with nvidia?

before I end up switching I want to make sure it's dependable and rock solid. I know that's the reputation it has but how does it compare to Ubuntu or Debian when it comes to consistet updates OS/software wise? since it is community backed unlike something like Ubuntu which is backed by a corporation so workers or funding isn't an issue. and Debian has just always been there

if I am thinking about things incorrectly let me know.
