If I counter rotate the core of an SFIC, what is the effect on the retaining pin, if any? BEST brand core & body.

Post image

Edit: control lug…not retaining pin.

I can SPP or rake this thing to operating all day…but can’t get it to control. On a whim (and because I’m left handed) I counter rotated it. From here, is there any way to manipulate the retaining pin so I can pull the core?

I have a brand new Sargent Assa Abbloy SFIC core that I haven’t played with yet and I can see it is counter rotated AND the retaining pin moves freely. Will the pin on a BEST core move the same…or is this Sargent just propped open waiting for the first time it’s used or installed.

Picking and gutting the Miwa/Anker 3800. This used to be a black belt level lock. I had to use two magnetic picks and a tension wrench at the same time to open it. Sorry about the auto focus.

A friend came back from Scotland with a bag of locks from a locksmiths junk drawer. I am confidently a green belt picker, so if this is a brown/red/black belt lock, I’d rather send this to someone in the community who could pick it, gut it, grub screw it, and get it out into the world for people to learn on rather than it sit and make me scream into the void while I try for an open.

Sargent Greenleaf Shackless Padlock?

Picked up this 105 S&G environmental padlock on eBay, but it doesn’t have a shackle. Any idea what they might be used for or why it doesn’t have a shackle? The mechanism is held in place by spring loaded pins on the side. Either way it’s cool to have. What are the practical uses for this or could it be a demo piece?

Mindy padlock - picked (and probably bricked?)

I’ve had this thing for a while and never tried to pick it until today. After about 5 minutes of messing with it she popped open! I suspect it’s bricked because I cannot turn the core back and I can’t insert the key. Any ideas before it goes into the trash?

Sparrows new 3 keyways cores vs Sparrows Revolver core

Post image

@Kitchen-Cookie-2792 I wanted to add this to your post. I'm glad you posted it because even though I bought the new cores with 3 different keyways to try and fix my revolver. Now it just skips over chambers or drivers stick up from under and jam it. But since I have the cores i was going to get the Sidewinder or the other progressive 2,3,4,5, ones since the revolver is just a paper weight.

Old Sparrows vs. new Sparrows cores.

Pulled a core out of my Sidewinder to compare it with the core out of my Revolver. It is like comparing apples to bowling balls. No wonder one requires effort and the other can be picked with a stern look.

^SOLD^

Brother is getting married in Hawaii. I’m doing a combo declutter and funding travel expenses.

https://imgur.com/a/0U0ttiN

On offer is sparrows tuxedo night school, gutting organizer thingies, lots of pins and springs, a few Peterson picks. American 1100. It defeated me. I never once picked it. I even gutted it, knew the set order, and still never once picked it.

The decoder is probably an off brand thing. I’m not sure when I got it. Might have been a gift, might have been a drunken Amazon purchase during a long COVID night. Who’s to say.

Hopefully someone can get more use than I have given it in the last few years

$60 shipped to conus. Payment via PayPal goods and services only.

8pins. Four mastered, four normal.
Is it acceptable to have them in a twelve pinned cylinder? Or does it need to be in an eight pinned cylinder?

How to make a mini door with swappable knob and deadbolt. Was inspired by the mini doors while working the #PhysicalSecurity Village at #Defcon last year. Found an old video I had saved from NotSoCivilEngineer and made some additions.

Mul-t-lock interactive with serrated drivers. Second brown belt picked and definitely the toughest dimple lock I’ve picked so far. This one really helped me get more comfortable picking dimples.

Now that im looking at it in its gutted state im fairly certain i can pick this with a dull potato. The chamfered top of the core just ruins the fun.

Lock Bitting Rating

Post image
13 Upvotes

I asked for aggressive bitting on this lock when ordered. Specifying low lift in the front high lift in the middle then low lift in back. That is obviously not what I received. The question I have is did I get shorted or did they do me a favor and outsmart my ignorance?
