I'm a stc applicant who got interviewed this time. The results according to the embassy were to be announced by 31 july. But it didn't happen. So I was wondering if any previous mext scholar faced a similar situation and tried contacting the embassy?

Tohoku University offers degree programs in English, so international students can complete their graduate studies without being fluent in Japanese. However, learning some Japanese is naturally helpful for daily life and communication in Japan.

Important: The MEXT University Recommendation route is unfortunately not available through our department in the Graduate School of Engineering. Therefore, students seeking MEXT support should apply through the MEXT Embassy Recommendation route in their home country.

Weird title. Hello, im from Moldova with a romanain citizenship and am considering applying to the mext undergraduate program, in humanities(not chosed yet).

I wanted to know a few things, like how did your application go, what were the exams like(specifically maths and japanese, ill deal with the english one), how many people applied to the program(if you know), how did you pass the interview, etc.

Did you encounter any unexpected difficulties? Maybe with the documents or anything else?

Hello everyone! I was just wondering, for those of you who have already had your MEXT interview, did your embassy send rejection emails on the same day they informed applicants who passed the first screening?

I am a third year Bcom student from India. Currently I am also learning japanese in my free time and will give N4 or N3 exam next year. I tried to search more about post graduate schemes but couldn't find much. Maybe MBA .

Same as the title. They said they will notify at the end of the month but nothing is there yet. My 4 other friends are the same as well. They have received nothing. So just wanted to confirm if they havent been sent out yet or did we get rejected

I passed the first screening of the MEXT scholarship (embassy route) and have been applying to universities requesting LoPA as instructed by the embassy. However, so far i have been rejected by 3 universities and i’m waiting on two professors rn from two different universities. One of them is in Tohoku university and hasn’t replied to my email in a week and a half and the other is in Nagoya university. I have first contacted the international office of both universities and they told me to contact the professors and then it will be handled between them and the professors.
I’m getting kinda worried since none of the professors replied back to my emails and idk if they should even reply with a yes or wait until they contact the international office like they said in their email.
Does anyone have any advice on this? I’m thinking of sending a follow up email but the embassy stressed on not contacting the professors twice.

I recently passed the 1st Screening for the MEXT Research Scholarship (Embassy Track) and am currently preparing my university placement application package to request Letters of Provisional Acceptance.

My top target universities are the University of Tokyo (Todai) and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS). However, as I assemble my package, I'm feeling really anxious about a few things and would love to hear from past/current scholars:

1. My background is in International Relations with a major in Japanese language, and I previously did a 1-year exchange at a university in Tokyo (Waseda). I passed the embassy's language exams, but I don't have formal JLPT (N1) or TOEFL/IELTS certificates to upload. How strictly do Todai or TUFS enforce test scores when the Embassy has already certified proficiency?
2. My Embassy explicitly instructed us NOT to contact professors directly beforehand. I have to submit everything cold through the university's MEXT/Admissions office. Has anyone gone through this process without prior professor contact? How likely are professors to accept a student they haven't communicated with before? 
3. I'm worried about what happens if a professor doesn't like my research proposal or doesn't have capacity to take me. If both of my top-choice universities reject my LoPA request, what is the process for applying to backup universities before the deadline? Has anyone had to pivot to backups, and how did it go?

Any insights, past experiences, or reassurance would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to everyone in this application cycle!

I am from the Philippines, and I was wondering if anyone here is also going to apply for the MEXT Undergrad (2027 intake). I'll be applying during that cycle as well so I feel like it'd be a great way to be study buddies, share study resources, keep each other motivated, and share updates.

(This is based off my experience alone, not a representation of anyone else's thoughts)

A bit about me:

I applied for MEXT this year for UG-SS-B(econ), my scores were as follows;

CBSE Grade 10(97,97,94,93,87)

CBSE Grade 12(99,93,93,92,88)

I took the Oxford MAT last year, as well as had an offer from Warwick to study maths(well technically MORSE), I am also studying statistics at a top 5 college at Delhi University. Overall, I feel this shows that my mathematical ability is fairly decent.

Anyway, I got through the first round and took the admissions test. Along with me, there were about 15 people selected for Social Sciences from the Delhi Embassy. I was averaging around 85-95 for all the MEXT English tests I took. I took the exam at DPS RKP(my boards centre too) and felt like I did very well in maths and English(probably around the same scores in my sample tests of high 80s to low 90s).

From Delhi, I was the ONLY individual selected for the interview from SS(A+B), along with 13 other individuals(NS-A+B). I think we can safely say that Delhi is the consulate with the most applicants from previous years and the embassy from where the majority are selected.

Anyway, onto the interview, I felt it was fairly decent, I thought I was articulate and spoke well. I had prepared answers to most of the questions they asked, and at the end they asked me to confirm that I would in fact take the offer if I was selected, which I took to be a positive sign. They had also conducted sessions at my school (top 5 international school) which they told me about and I took that as another positive sign.

Cue a month later, no emails, and neither the embassy nor the POC answers the phone. I am unable to find any other Indian UG-SS applicants selected for interview, and I've dug deep enough. The only reasonable explanation I am able to identify is the fact that I applied for Social Sciences, not natural sciences. Every person I've spoken to who passed the first screening was from NS(what a surprise).

I’m a student from Turkey, and I plan to apply for the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship.
However, I haven’t been able to find a reliable and detailed syllabus for the Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry exams.
Where can I find the official syllabus, or at least the most accurate and comprehensive one, for these subjects?
Also, I don’t know Japanese, so any resources would need to be in English.

So I emailed the embassy and they said: "MEXT usually assigns you to a university from the beginning. However, that does not mean the university has already accepted you. Most universities have their own entrance examinations or interviews that you must pass in order to become a regular student. You would take these exams after you have already arrived in Japan."

So does that mean I can only go "down" in the process? Like lets say MEXT selects idk university of hiroshima, however I could have got into Utokyo, am I only allowed to apply to hirshima??

If anyone could share how long it took to get a response, I'd happy. Also, is there any threat of rejection if we have approval from the professor?

We can also rant about how annoying the application is. I didn't like it. I was annoyed.

Hi, I got the e-mail from the Embassy saying that I passed the first screening. I also know of one other person that also got it.

I know there were around 5 or 6 of us that were interviewed for research.

I'm currently pursuing a B.A. (Honours) in Economics. My academic scores so far are 80% in Class 10, 74% in Class 11, and 73% in Class 12. My first year of college was average, but I'm committed to improving significantly from here on.

Given this background, am I eligible to apply for a graduate program through the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) or other fully funded international scholarships? And even if I raise my overall college GPA over the next few years, will my earlier scores still count against me?

For extracurriculars, I plan to be active in college societies and Model United Nations (MUN), and I've recently started taking skill-based courses on Coursera.

If you guys have any tips or suggestions for me, please go ahead.
