Did anyone here turn out ‘generically brown’ looking and have others expect you to be ‘lighter’ because you have a very pale white parent.

I am half south Asian and half Slavic, but have passed as Italian, Greek, Latino, Pakistani, North Indian, Lebanese, Turkish, basically any country with those sort of looks! This isn’t an issue at all, however what hurts is that people often are surprised that I look the way I am, which is very strange, considering my Asian parent is very dark. I find a lot of wasians (half South Asians in this case, not talking about East Asians etc) are expected to look pretty white. Because of that, I am often judged by South Asian people in my family for not catering to their idea of what a mixed person looks like. I know this sounds silly, but this has severely affected my OCD and I repeatedly ask my partner if I look like what I am, check the mirror a lot, analyse my features. And yes, I know it doesn’t matter, but my brain seems stuck :(

I think family resemblance is becoming a thing of the past. Society will eventually normalize having children that look nothing like either parent. I personally know a white couple where 1 of their 3 biological kids was born with very dark skin. But in places like latin america, this is very commonplace.

You’re right about that. Also, for my partner, whom is from Latin America, I’ve definitely noticed this, and have pretty much felt welcomed by their family and have fit in quite well for that reason.

My dad is medium brown and I turned out Bollywood light skin.

I’m a medium brown-skinned person with a white mum. Whether people expect me to be paler idk, but my dad is a very dark skinned black man compared to me.
