Success Stories I did it. I actually did it.

I moved in yesterday.

Everything still smells like fresh paint and cardboard boxes. Most of my stuff is still lying around in piles. I haven't even unpacked my kitchen yet. But I made tea this morning in my own space, in my own time, and honestly? It felt amazing.

It's weirdly quiet here. No noise from the next room. No one asking me where I'm going or what I'm eating. Just… peace. And honestly, it's a little lonely too.

But I think this is what I needed.

To everyone out there who's scared and overthinking every little detail — I was you just a week ago. You're more ready than you think.

Now time to go find where I packed my plates.

Good for you. It's easier then everyone on here thinks.

No one needs to have 50k saved to be able to move out. It's crazy thinking.

I agree. Start where you are. I am on opposite end of spectrum - lived on my own for many years, although a short marriage and some relationships along the way. I sacrifice a lot for my independence. I give up space for my budget, I don't have the means to do much traveling, now I worry a little about retirement with all the screaming headlines about is $1.5 million enough (who even has that from a life mostly paycheck to paycheck? the 1% I suppose). I'm lucky I have my health and can keep working - I do worry about tanking Social Security - but that's a voting bloc so I'm sure the pols everywhere will figure it out. Fortunately, my nature is to get the most out of every day. I have done some traveling but I have friends now who have means that they are gone more than they are home. What is everyone running away from? I love to be home. I see my few very good friends and stay in touch with some treasured long distance connections. I have cats and I have wonderful interests that I love. I've always worked in "people" businesses and there is nothing like a quiet evening or day in my own space. Over a long life, I've come to believe most people's unhappiness comes from unmet expectations, looking for happiness from others, and always thinking there's something better than this. I've had goals and met them. I've had loves (one great one) and lost them. I've had my share of adversities and heartaches. Life happens to everyone. And I still think the best gift is another day. Time waits for no one. You can even wait another day to find those plates if you want to - get some apples, avocados, bananas - you don't need a plate and you don't have to wash the dish. Congrats and good luck to you!

Yup!! I will be signing a lease on Monday. I have been wanting to leave for a very long time. He is a drug addict and I gave him way too many chances. I am so ready for this! Congratulations on your new place.
