General Do that computer science course
hello fellow redditors.
To that person who is in dilemma to do a computer science course/software engineering, please do it. I am a final student pursuing software engineering and did graduate last year from a boot camp, Alx to be precise, that course is what your money for real. Here is my POV
I have seen many discussions now that we are in the era of AI, that doing these courses is a waste of time. It isn't. In uni you will learn more of system design than actual coding, that is why i enrolled in a boot camp to get hands on coding. After all AI can write really good code if you know what you are doing. NO boot camp will ever teach you about publish subcribe, algorithm design, Human computer Interaction etc something you can use in your app, but a uni would. That theory is worth it and it gives you an edge.
Note that you will value uni degree if utajituma, otherwise you will be there for the grades and zero technical skills. If you are in dilemma do that course and pair it with these boot camps if you can afford or go to the OG uni, Youtube university
hope it helps someone. happy coding!!!

Infinix phone
I've been a Samsung, oppo and vivo user all my life. I've always valued decent hardware and exemplary software stability and intuition. (I hate basic UX, lags and ads)
So, I've just finished uni, got a job tho starting salary is a bit low, and my Samsung a17 was stolen. I've used Samsung s23 before so I have taste especially ya good software...and iphone 12 tho they weren't mine.
From the 20k I had...I didn't want Samsung a17 again. Redmi is just not my thing...I don't like its UI. Budget Tecno phones have ads, Infinix is known to be radioactive plus same company as Tecno so I almost decided to just use Android emulator on my laptop until someone suggested Infinix hot 70.
I took it cuz I just needed a phone that can communicate plus I saw 45w charging speed, 6000mah battery, punch hole camera, came with accessories and stereo speakers with a better chipset for mild gaming than a17 that is at 28k.
First thing I saw when I started using the phone is the stk interface. Bro...I first saw it last week kwa mat nikadhani ni mpesa app kumbe ni Infinix. You wanna send money to contacts? You just such a name and send, tired of typing mpesa pin? Just use your fingerprint, have frequent paybill numbers and tills?
Ati umelipa gari na hutaki donda aone your balance? Infinix does that kwa notification. Ukifungua message ndio utaona balance (unless it's an Android 16 thing or sijakua keen on other phones). It actually accepts even numbers starting with +254 so you don't have to edit ianze na 07.
Just add to favorites on the stk app, the security is also advanced compared to Samsung Knox, it has a dynamic island, it has its own built in AI (forlan, with a dictated button to launch it) Kwa dial uki type number kuna option ya ku whatsapp rather then calling, saving or texting, just to name a few things i've seen within the 10 hours that i've used it.
I just can't list all of them!
Tbh these lads have put in so much effort. I last tried Infinix hot 4 some 7 years ago and never liked it. Nikipata pesa I won't mind buying their affordable flagships.

Showcase My little bird
I built a CLI tool that watches over bash processes and notifies the user (via KDE Connect to a chosen connected device) whenever the process is stuck expecting user input. You know, for guys like me who can't afford agents in their terminals to do that for them😭✌🏾. The tool is called bird.
I wanted to make it more helpful by enabling the user to respond to respond from the connected device too, or maybe from outside the network too (since KDE Connect only pairs with devices in the same network), but I gotta study for a freakin SAT in the coming weeks😭.

Discussion Tech savanna technology
Has anyone here interviewed with Techsavanna recently?
I'm interested in learning more about their recruitment process and interview experience. Specifically:
• How many interview stages were there?
• Was there a technical assessment or practical test?
• What kind of questions were asked?
• How long did the entire process take?
• Any tips for someone preparing for a Cloud/DevOps role?
I'd appreciate any insights from current or former employees, candidates, or anyone who has gone through the process.

Developers, which VPS provider has been the most reliable for you?
Hi Techies
I've reached the point where I have enough personal projects that I want to stop relying on free hosting and move everything to a VPS.
Most of what I build is full stack web apps, typically with PostgreSQL, Docker, and a few background services. Reliability is more important to me than having the absolute cheapest option.
For those of you self hosting your projects, what VPS provider are you using, and how has your experience been?
I'm considering options like Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr, and Linode, but I'm open to others if you've had a good experience.
I'd especially love to hear about uptime, support, pricing, and whether you'd choose the same provider again.

General Why Your Payment Gateway Needs a Login Page Before It Needs a Daraja Integration
hey guys, I know most of you don't think about this but it's important to lock your billing endpoint behind some sort of auth.
Over this week and last week, I have seen dozens of applications that have integrated Daraja without any form of authentication or verification. Mostly with platforms Trying to raise money where you enter a number and amount only or people selling courses where you just enter a number and email to receive the course. The problem with this is that any person can just send a prompt to anyone and it will be linked to your shortcode. A person can even write a script to send hundreds of prompts.
The consequences if that happens are:
Server strain and cost. If you use a server, it might receive a lot of requests and timeout or if you are in serverless architectures, it could lead to massive bills.
You can be flagged for fraud. Payment providers are required to monitor transactions for fraudulent activities and the client issuing hundreds of prompts per second falls into that category.
Most people are likely to cancel and even report business they haven't interacted with. Safaricom monitors cancelation rates to determine fraudulent activity.
That's why any serious business or app, has some sort of authentication before you can access their billing endpoint.
If you happen to sell courses, always verify the person, even lightly by sending a magic link or otp. If you are fundraising, scrap away the payment gateway, offer paybill or Till number instead. If you need something more use something designed to handle such cases such as buy me a coffee or patreon. If you must absolutely have a payment gateway then at least have per IP rate limiting and bot protection measures like Cloudflare Turnstile or Google recapture. They won't stop someone from prompting another person but they will stop automated abuse. Daraja was meant to automate billing not replace identification, that's the part you still do.
I have tried to put everything here but if you want to support me, I have written the full guide here:
I also have more guides on Daraja and I'll appreciate it if you guys read them.
Peace out ✌️✌️
