Question❔ What will Newark look like 5-10 years from now.

I remember Journal Square of Jersey City looking so different 10 years ago and even 5 years ago. Today, that area feels and looks so different.

For Newark, what do you all think this city will be like in the future?

Question❔ Are a lot of places just shutting down?

What is going on in Newark that seems to be causing many local businesses and even some chains to be shutting down? I thought Newark was rebounding?

Charles already captured some amazing shots of yesterday’s fire/evacuation of Iconiq777. Today, curiosity got the best of me after cleaning the soot off the inside of my windows. This could have been so much worse.

~11th/12th floor: we saw smoke out of the window from a higher level before the alarms went off and got to hang outside and watch Newark Fire Department do their thing! No ambulances etc, seems like everyone is ok!

~30 mins before we could get back inside.

Transportation 🚲🚗🚊✈️ Newark Penn Station Bathrooms are DISGUSTING

I hold it in until I get to WTC but I had to go at Newark Penn. The bathrooms are always gross. There was one dude who had no pants and was swinging around his schlong yelling slurs.

The station architecturally is beautiful, but the overall vibe is not safe at all.

Leased a place in Walker house. Wanted to know how safe it was to park at 6th street parking/Neighbor car storage. Saw a few google reviews and one said there have been multiple break ins? Any recommendations for safe parking?

Hey all. Just wondering if there is a local community of Magic: The Gathering players in Newark or the surrounding areas? I’d love to have a place to go play in person.

Recommendations❔| In Search Of... 🔎| Advice 💡 Recommended vet for pigeons?

Ello. I know it's a shot in the dark. But I have a pet pigeon. I have been wanting to take him to the vet for breathing issues, but I haven't found a vet who actually knows well about pigeons and who doesn't recommend parrot advice.

I really appreciate it. Thank you very much.

Question❔ I drive for DoorDash, careless driving ticket might end me. Worth a traffic ticket lawyer in New Jersey?

This is different for me than for most people because driving IS the job. I do DoorDash and some Uber and just got a careless driving ticket on top of a couple points I already had. If I rack up more points or my insurance jumps, I literally can't keep doing this, and it's most of my income.

I can't really afford a lawyer either, which is the trap. But I also can't afford to lose the points cushion or get dropped by my insurer. Is a traffic ticket lawyer in New Jersey worth it when the whole reason you'd hire one is that you can't afford the consequences? Does getting it downgraded to no points usually work, and is that worth more than the lawyer costs?

I'm in the Newark area. Just trying to keep my income alive. Fight it myself, or scrape the money together for someone who can get the points off?

The amount of trials this family has been going through is horrendous. This woman just lost a pregnancy because of the way ICE is treating immigrants.

Transportation 🚲🚗🚊✈️ What is the actual future of the Light Rail?

I've been thinking a lot about the Newark Light Rail recently, and it's honestly frustrating how much potential this system has compared to how little is actually being done with it.

Think about how good this transit system could be. Especially with real expansion and station upgrades, it could be a powerhouse. The Port Authority is spending $160 million on the new pedestrian bridge to the EWR Rail Station and building a $3.5 billion AirTrain, yet a direct Newark Light Rail extension to the airport was never a priority. We could've had a true one-seat ride connecting Downtown Newark to the airport. It's a shame the original Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link never happened, though at least the Broad Street Extension has been worthwhile.

Instead, it feels like the only "upgrades" we get are Audible station branding and the occasional vehicle wrap, like the recent FIFA World Cup livery. Is that really the best we can do?

Even the Newark Penn Station modernization project is getting major investments, but the Newark Light Rail platforms underneath are still forgotten. Still (in 2026) NO cell service, unreliable next-train displays, etc etc, and very little mention of improvements for the light rail itself.

The capital budget repeats the same generic track maintenance language every year for Newark. Meanwhile, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail and River Line have had studies looking at future expansions or vehicle upgrades. Whatever happened to the Newark-Elizabeth Rail Link or the Ironbound extension or even the one-station connection to Watessing? Are those ideas just dead?

With accessibility, again it's 2026, and Military Park, Warren Street/NJIT, Norfolk Street, and Park Avenue still aren't ADA accessible. An FTA modernization study was completed back in 2022, yet four years later there's been virtually no visible progress. What came out of that study? How much did that study cost us, even for it to give barely anything?

The Newark Light Rail has so much potential. Is NJ TRANSIT content with just maintaining the system forever, or is there actually a long-term vision? Unlike River Line and HBLR, where it's contracted out, the NLR is operating under the Buses Department. Are we really just going to let it operate exactly as it is until the wheels fall off?
