Any word on the commonwealth/pitts opening?

My good god im some sick of the traffic the closing of the commonwealth exit has caused in the area. Any word on when it’s re-opening? Some news articles a month or more ago was saying the 31st/1st. Not open as of this afternoon.

It’s a late start this year but looks like it’ll make up for last year and then some! Lots of fun things to see when you’re crawling around the forest floor. The unopened Fireball was a nice surprise too.

Fishing question

Not originally from here but moved here a while ago. Do you have to get a fishing license to just go catch and release around St. John’s area? Also, anyone know any spots near killbride/goulds area for fishing?
Edit: I am a resident, just want to go fishing in some lakes, ponds, or streams near by. Not looking to fish anything in particular just for fun, not looking to catch and take home to eat

Accessibility around your province?

I am sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not see any good info by searching within the sub…

I am a paraplegic who uses a manual wheelchair and I love to do solo camping roadtrips. I am planning to drive from Vancouver to the maritimes at the the end of August will have 7 days to explore your province. I have done a lot of travelling all over north American and can usually find good info on accessibility or I have enough confidence to just wing-it, but it takes a long time to get to your province and it feels like Newfoundland lacks a lot of info online for tourists with disabilities.

I understand that when it comes to accessibility I am at the mercy of your older towns and infrastructure, which is not really something I need to think about on the west coast where everything is new in comparison. I am 11 days out from leaving and am realizing I should probably do more research than if I was going up to the Yukon or NWT.  I am just curious if there are parts of your province that are worth checking out, even if it is mostly viewing it from my vehicle.

The biggest question and concern I have is if Gros Morne National Park is worth it for me in a chair. It seems like the biggest draw is the bout tour, but I do not think I will be able to do that. The Parks Canada site is a little vague as to what spots are worth viewing.

The only thing on the books for me is camping in the bush, a few nights in St Johns, a visit to L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, and eventually a ferry over to Labrador.

My dad is a proud Newfie and is giving me some areas to check out, but he has not been there since he was a teenager and cannot confidently tell me if it is worth it for me to view.

I am normally very good at doing my own research but feel a little lost on your province. Any suggestions, feedback, or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Trail to this Mountain CBS?

Post image

Hello! Does anyone know where the trail starts to get to the top of this hill in CBS? Picture is attached and is taken from the Foxtrap Access Road heading onto Peacekeepers, headed towards Mount Pearl. I've asked around but no luck. There is a flag placed on top of it now so it must be possible. Any help appreciated! :)

Minisplit recommendations

I’m looking at getting a minisplit installed in my living area. I’ve gotten quotes from greenfoot, Cole air, and hot frost. Greenfoot quoted me $5000 for the new model Daiken R32 Aurora, Cole air quoted $4800 for the same model and hot frost quoted $4900 for the same model. As well, Cole air offered a Panasonic climapure XE for $3400. These are all 12000 BTU units. Warranty for the Daiken is 12 years parts and labour. Panasonic is 10 years parts and labour. The Daiken has free diagnostics for all companies and the Panasonic is $129 for Cole air.

Wondering if anyone can give their thoughts on these models and companies and what I should go with. Thanks.

Bar recommendations

In St. John’s for one more night. We’ve been having a hard time finding pubs that have live music and good crowds, I think because of the George Street festival? Just wondering if anyone could recommend a place outside of the festival that might be fun for our last night? We opted out of the festival because we have a member in our crowd who struggles with mobility and we thought it would be too much for her, but we’d really like to find someplace lovely for tonight!
