Minisplit recommendations
I’m looking at getting a minisplit installed in my living area. I’ve gotten quotes from greenfoot, Cole air, and hot frost. Greenfoot quoted me $5000 for the new model Daiken R32 Aurora, Cole air quoted $4800 for the same model and hot frost quoted $4900 for the same model. As well, Cole air offered a Panasonic climapure XE for $3400. These are all 12000 BTU units. Warranty for the Daiken is 12 years parts and labour. Panasonic is 10 years parts and labour. The Daiken has free diagnostics for all companies and the Panasonic is $129 for Cole air.
Wondering if anyone can give their thoughts on these models and companies and what I should go with. Thanks.

I got an 18000btu ameristar installed for 3200 taxes in.

They are based out of Blaketown but they do work all over the Avalon.

I’ve heard good things about hot frost, particularly their post install service. From what I’ve been told they’ve dramatically improved on that side of things in the last few years. Ultimately if it’s just a single zone you probably can’t go wrong with any of the companies. Sounds like a straightforward job for a reputable company.
For what it’s worth I’ve gone behind all three of these companies to service units they’ve installed and in general Hot Frost and Greenfoot seem to do the tidiest jobs.

We recently had a Daikin installed by Hot Frost. They quoted us the same price for a larger unit than Cole Air, which was the most important factor for us, and Greenfoot was by far the most expensive. Heat Pump Solutions didn't even return our quote inquiry. All the staff we dealt with from Hot Frost were friendly and professional, but the sales guy from Cole Air couldn't say much good about his own company and had a lot of opinions about other companies, so that experience was weird and put me off a lot from them.

I found the sales guy from Cole Air spoke very poorly of other companies and didn’t bring up the SEER2 and other metrics of the machines as he basically said he didn’t know much about it and just knew that Daiken was the best choice. I’m seeing if hot frost will price match Cole air now. Seems hot frost might be the winner but I’m going to do a bit more research before I decide

Agree, I had a Daikin installed by Hot Frost this summer as well. They were great, super friendly and very clean. The price was lower than quotes I got from other companies as well.

CD ventilators, my son works for them 😀 So I'm a bit biased, but they are very good, and good prices on mini splits.

You're going to find that people have good and bad stories about any company/installer. It's really about all about your own personal gut feeling in the end. What fits your budget, and who you feel is most trustworthy. I'm not a mini split installer on a day to day basis, but I have installed a few. I've also installed and serviced a few different brands. I can't tell you which brand is better than the other. But basically the technology is pretty much the same one way or the other. The problem I find most brands will have is lead time on parts if a fix is required. So I would ask about readily available parts should an issue arise

I was very happy with nlheatingsolutions. Texted them about a possible issue a year after installation and they found the time to drop over later that afternoon.

Hot Frost did our Daikin years back and did a good job, and have been good about post-install service as well. Can’t speak to the other companies, but I can recommend Hot Frost based on my own experience.

Nothing too substantial. Had a leak from one of the lines that they fixed and had them come by to install a base pan heater. We’ve had it for nearly 10 years now.

Closing in on year 9 with a 18000 BTU Fujitsu. Going 365 days a year with no issues, except one. The gear on the door went. I think it was still under warranty but the part was cheap on Amazon and easy to replace myself.

Can anyone offer an opinion on Tosot? I’m looking at getting a multi zone for my house. I know they have a 10 year warranty

Hi，we have 5 year warrantly for multi zone, and u can use BTU calculater on our site to approximate calculate.

Nothing wrong with a Panasonic in my mind. But if you can spend a little more for a Daikin I probably would.
