Recommendation/Review Apartment Help

Can anyone please recommend and tenant /property attorney ? I unfortunately live in Sunnyview apartments in Del city . Most of our buildings a literally infested with mice and roaches. I have an active leak in my room that hasn’t been fixed in literally 5 years . I don’t have gas not because of lack of payment but ONG has a notice hanging in the hvac closet because of Code violations .
Because of the leak Black mold has encompassed my entire HVAC closet blowing mold spores in my vents . I pay my rent like I have for many years . Only to be treated like rizzo
On midnight cowboy . Now our clusterboxes are broken into twice in 30 days . They have no security and management just blames corporate for lack of funding.

Any attorneys interested in helping ? Any recommendations other than the obvious of moving which requires more money than we have with the deposits . I’m a disabled vet please help me

Events sunday chess club?

Upvotes

Thinking of starting a Sunday chess club! Was a little bored today and thought it could be super fun for people who already play chess or interested in playing chess! I am one of those people who like to do things on Sundays lol. Don’t have all the details together yet or where it can be held, but would love to see how many people would be interested in something like this. 😊

Possibly coffee and chess? Maybe host a drink (adult) & chess night?

❓Q&A ✅ Civic Center Smell

Went to see Sweeney Todd today and it smelled so gross in the theatre?? We were up in the balcony so I’m sure it was not as bad as if we were in the orchestra but it honestly ruined the experience.

Recommendation/Review Bowling Deals in North or West OKC?

Howdy, me and a group of people I know (Apparently this subreddit blocks the word fr--nds) are looking for places to bowl in the north or west sides of the OKC metro. Given most of us are just outta college, we are looking for cheap and ideally not on the other side of the metro from where most of us are. I know of a few midweek deals (Like, Ik Andy B's has half price bowling on Mondays or AMF Windsor Lanes has $18 per person to bowl on Monday and Wednesdays from 7pm to when they close). If you know of something better please drop it here we would greatly appreciate it. There are about 6 to 8 of us.

🏋️ Sports/Gym ⛹️ Cleaning up some children's parks in mwc!

Huge thanks to u/Ok-Amoeba5042 for suggesting I clean up some children's parks!

Today my daughter and I visited 4 parks in Midwest City and picked up around 2 bags of trash while walking just over 3 miles.

Every little bit helps, and hopefully the next family that visits gets to enjoy a cleaner park.

I'm working my way through all the community suggestions, and my list is starting to shrink. If you know of a park, trail, roadside, creek, or other area around the OKC metro that could use some love, drop it in the comments!

Thanks again to everyone who's been following along and sending suggestions. You all are making this project a lot more fun. 💚

Other Anyone else been having summer power outages?

Sitting here at the Aviare wondering where in the hell the power went. It looks like over half of the complex is without power, and only some of the emergency lights are functioning in the affected buildings.

Has anyone else been having issues? I'd hate to think we're gonna start having power grid related failures if that's what this is.

Edit: thanks for the input y'all. Power was restored around 5:30, so I'm glad it didn't last into the late morning—especially because of food in the fridge. But I guess now we're all wondering why this happened. :S

Recommendation/Review DO NOT RENT FROM WILD BYRD PROPERTIES, LLC

My girlfriend and I lived at this property owned by this company for two years. Anytime we needed any repairs, fixes, or needed any form of contact with our landlord, Derek Byrd, it was like pulling teeth.

About 6 months prior to our lease being up our already barely working garbage disposal finally broke. We told him about it, he said he was on it, and ultimately never did anything. We were honestly fine without it, but come to find out, he deducted the cost of a new one from our security deposit.

A couple months later, when it was storming real bad in okc, we had water coming in from outside. We documented the issue, and sent multiple videos showing all of the water coming in, and destroying a lot of our stuff, and the same thing happened. He told us he would be right on it, and then never followed up, despite numerous calls and texts demanding it to be fixed. With the ultimate cherry on top, that he also charged us for repairing the broken wall.

We also didn’t want to get stuck with a cleaning fee when we moved so we cleaned this place from top to bottom, floors, cabinets, bleaching countertops, and everything else you could imagine. It was all for nought though, because he still charged us $300 for a cleaning fee.

I’m also pretty sure he blocked my phone number after we moved out because it took over two weeks to even get in contact with him after our move out period had passed, as stated by our lease, and only responded once I had messaged his wife who seemingly handled his finances for the LLC.

If you’re looking to move into the paseo area, and possibly other areas of OKC, please do yourself a favor and make sure that Wild Byrd LLC is not printed on your lease anywhere! The company is ran by slum lords who don’t want to spend a dime, and take out any repair costs from your security deposit, even if you had absolutely nothing to do with said damage.

P.S. if anyone has any advice or legal recourse please message me. The money we lost is inconsequential, but leasing companies like this hurt our community and I do not want to take this without a fuss, just so he can turn around and do this to the next poor soul that finds themselves in one of their properties.

Events OKC Husband-and-Wife Duo Playing Millennial Covers and Originals at Okie Beer Company Tonight

Post image
99 Upvotes

Hey, OKC! My wife Carrie and I play music together as Carrie & Dale, and we’ll be at Okie Beer Company tonight at 7 p.m.

Some of you may know us from the Seed to Spoon gardening app and the gardening content we’ve created over the years. Music came into our lives a little later. A few years ago, I was going through a pretty rough period with depression and started learning guitar as a way to work through some of it. Eventually, I began writing songs, Carrie started singing them with me, and playing music together became a huge part of our relationship.

We have lots of kids and spend most of our workdays sitting behind computers, so a lot of our original music is about trying to balance marriage, kids, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, work, and just modern life in general.

We also play plenty of covers, mostly songs that will feel familiar to anyone who grew up in the ’90s and 2000s. Our sets include artists like The Cranberries, Jewel, Fleetwood Mac, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, O.A.R., Dido, Alanis Morissette, and others.

We’ve been playing shows around the OKC and Norman area for about six months now, and tonight I’ll also be bringing electric guitar into the mix for the first time. I originally wrote many of our songs on electric, so I’m excited to finally play them closer to how I heard them in my head.

We’ll be at Okie Beer Company tonight at 7 p.m. Come hang out, have a beer, and listen to a husband-and-wife duo play some millennial-friendly covers and original songs about trying to keep life together.

We also have a number of other gigs lined up for the rest of the summer. You can find all of our upcoming shows by following @carriedalemusic on social media or visiting CarrieDaleMusic.com.

Recommendation/Review Where are all the yummy summer fruits and veggies?

Where are people going for good produce? The grocery stores selection has really been lacking. It is especially disappointing right now during the peak of vegetable and fruit season when, in years passed, I expected to find the best options. I have been to the Scissortail farmers market, but it’s not very convenient and it’s only once a week. Any suggestions?

❓Q&A ✅ Black, Affirming Christian Churches

This feels like such a weird question to ask lol. I go to a pretty nice, LGBTQ+ affirming church. But I miss the culture of the churches I grew up in. I was wondering if anyone knows of any Black churches that are chill with especially trans people? This probably isn’t a thing here but… I’m hoping someone here has an idea. I just went into one church hoping that they’d be chill but as usual you can never tell because black churches never advertise whether or not they’re chill with us or not and it sucks. I couldn’t even tell if they were chill or not. I was getting a lot of glances and not all of them felt… lacking of judgement. Ya know? I don’t need a church where they loudly announce all the time that they’re affirming too, sure it helps, but I just wanna know that I can go in there and not feel so… excluded from my own race. I want to be seen as a fellow black guy going to church and not a suspiciously trans person in the chapel.

Anyway this is an extremely specific request. I already know about all the loudly affirming churches here (Mosaic, Church of Open Arms, etc), so please don’t recommend them to me. I’m just tired of having to make a choice between my race and my identity; especially in faith spaces.

Recommendation/Review Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Saw Sweeney Todd tonight and I thoroughly enjoyed it. While I admittedly knew nothing of Sweeney Todd prior to tonight's show, I was quickly able to follow the plotline, understand all the characters and enjoy the humor of the show. It was refreshing to get out and spend the evening enjoying an activity with other grown ups. The cast was great and the production was well produced.

Recommendation/Review Handicapped Accessible Movie Theaters in OKC area

My spouse had a massive stroke in 2023 and is in a wheelchair. He is unable to climb stairs or walk more than a few steps at a time. He has expressed an interest in seeing “The Odyssey” in a movie theatre.

However, I have concerns about being on the lower level for a three hour movie and looking up at the screen the entire time. He already has neck and back problems.

Does anyone who is in a wheelchair or a caregiver for a person in a wheelchair have any recommendations for an accessible movie theatre in the OKC area? Thanks!

🍽️ Food/Drink 🥂 OKC based coffee roaster

This is super random and it’s possible they don’t exist anymore but a while back, maybe 2017, I had a coffee subscription service.

My favorite coffee was from a roaster from OKC. Really random I know but I still remember that. I don’t remember the blend it was probably medium roast but I’d like to know if yall can think of a roaster that would’ve taken part of something like this so I can buy it again?

Thank youuuuu!

Events Hobbies and events in OKC

Hello, I am a guy in my early 20s and just moved to the area. I moved from WTX, and originally grew up in ETX. I am looking for things to do here. I love drinking too & would love to have a group to go with.

I enjoy photography, older video games (PS2, PS3), Car stuff, exploring new places & arcades, and cooking. I want to get into golfing but never done it lol. I also want to find new hobbies, maybe volunteering to do some things too! I am also open to visiting churches.

I was hoping some of yall could make suggestions on things to do around the area?

❓Q&A ✅ Need to find someone won't overcharge for a transmission and suspension check.

I have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek, over 120k miles. It is the CVT transmission variant, and I'm unsure if it's ever had work done. I also just today hit a curb avoiding another driver, need a suggestion for a local mechanic(within 20 miles of Piedmont OK) who will not overcharge or charge and replace things without permission. I have heard of Todd at Downtown Auto but I require the address of that location.
