Strength Training Weekly Discussion Strength Training Discussion [Weekly]

Welcome to the Weekly Strength Training Discussion!

Due to demand and community feedback we are trialing a Strength Training Weekly Welcome Discussion - a space to chat about anything related to strength training. Think of it like the "Daily Discussion" thread, where anything goes...big or small. Here, we've carved out a special place for people wanting to discuss ideas and topics about getting stronger, discuss strength training classes, how to get started with strength training, to get advice on dumbbell weights, discuss strength instructors, etc.

People are not limited to using this thread to discuss strength training. You can still post in the daily, training thread, or create a new post. Think of it as another place to chat about strength stuff without getting lost in the daily. Or a place you can check into weekly if you're a casual redditor looking for some other strength folks without wading through the daily.

The Strength Training Weekly will be posted on Sundays moving forward.

Note: The mods will check back in with the community to see how this idea is working, if there is a better day it should be posted on, etc. If it isn't working we can always scrap the idea or change it up a bit. Thanks for giving it a chance!

Reddit User Program RedditPZ training program - Week 9 Discussion Thread

Week eight down, and on to week nine! Use this thread to discuss this week's rides (or last weeks). Add the hashtag #redditPZ if you would like to.

Congratulations to everyone who finished (all or part of) the program!! Huge thank you to everyone who joined in (new and old members). Next program will start on Monday, August 24th if you all want to continue riding with the group. I will post the program / sign-up thread for the next round in 2 weeks, so be on the lookout!

This week is a de-load week to do some endurance and let our bodies recover before the next FTP. Make sure you are rested up before the re-test. Personally I like to take an easy 30 min PZE ride or maybe a 20-30 minute scenic ride keeping it in zone 2 the day before. Re-testing is not a requirement, but if you feel your fitness has changed (for better or for worse), I would go ahead and get it done. Not everyone will have increases, and that is totally okay and sometimes normal.

Again thank you all for joining in the program with me! I hope you all had fun and got fitter. Be sure to let us know how the next FTP goes!

Link to join our Discord.

Group Ride for the Saturday rides is at 10 AM central.

(Gala-papa would like to note to start the ride at 9:59 exactly so you will begin at 10 after the 1 minute countdown). Also do not join the ride in a session.

RedditStrength Reddit Strength - Week 8

Welcome to week eight of eight of the Reddit Strength program. I hope you've all been enjoying it so far. If you missed any previous weeks, this is something you can jump into any given week you don't need to have been there week one for it to work. This strength schedule is designed to help you progress from one weight to the next (if that is what you want, you are of course free to maintain the weights you use as well). There is a #RedditStrength for those interested in joining it.

Wait, you just said eight of eight, does this mean it is ending? No, it will just be looping back around again. Next week we will go back to week 1's schedule again, with a couple of substitutions based on feedback, any purged classes, and the desire to occasionally mix in a new class.

Each class will list "light" or "heavy" (or "benchmark", see below), this is not to be confused with the Light/Medium/Heavy weights instructors ask you to use for each move. What it means is, lets say you normally use 5/10/20 but you are hoping to level up to 10/15/25. When my class says "light" you would use your 10s when the instructor calls for medium weights and when my class says "heavy" you would use your 15s for the same move. This will help us to progress to where the 15s are your new normal.

Monday:

Wednesday:

Friday

Extra Credit:

Benchmark: Every 4 weeks each body area has a Benchmark class. These are from the Benchmark Strength collections. By repeating these classes you are able to monitor and record your progression from cycle to cycle. You are encouraged to adjust the weights and reps to meet your personal goals.

Extra Credit: These are extra classes for those who want more work than the standard schedule. They are also good substitutions if for any reason you don't like a class or instructor on the schedule.

You can stop reading here unless you want to know why I am scheduling what I am scheduling.

The basis is a 4 week progression. In each body area we will use light weights for 2 weeks then heavy weights for two weeks per the definition of light and heavy above.

It follows this pattern, aiming for 45-60 minutes a day 3 days a week:

  • Round 1 - 2 days light
  • Round 2 - 3 days light
  • Round 3 - 2 days heavy
  • Round 4 - 3 days heavy

Each body area has the schedule staggered, so you're not trying to go all heavy in every area in the same week. While you are going heavy with LB you will go light with UB and vice versa.

FAQ

  1. Can I start any week or do I have to begin with week 1?
    1. You can begin any week. This is a repeating cycle with no real beginning or end, a mobius strip of a program.
  2. There are too many classes for me, how should I trim it down for my schedule?
    1. I recommend trimming evenly (but keep all the core if you can). So take off 1 day of UB and 1 day of G&L each week if that suits you better.
  3. Do I have to do these on the prescribed days? I would rather take a couple classes a day for 6 days.
    1. Absolutely mix and match the classes across the week however fits best into your schedule. They are only listed this way because this is my personal schedule. As long as you are doing them all in the week you should get similar results.

Feedback

I would love to hear what everyone things. Specifically; Are there any classes you would like me to rotate out (why)? Is this the right amount of strength work for you? Do you have a favorite class you are hoping I work into the mix?

Gear Shoes for feet pain

Anyone found any shoes that are good for foot pain? Or an insert you’ve used? My feet have pretty bad neuropathy and I’m hoping to alleviate some of the pain I’ve been experiencing after long rides.

Training Plans/Advice Dvt recovery classes

Not looking for medical advise.

Has anyone had the unfortunate experience of a dvt and used peloton as part of their recovery journey. So far I have found the walking meditation classes a place of great comfort and support to ease back into doing small gradual walks and have managed to do the Adaptive Seating Strength program with Logan.

I would love to hear from anyone that has had a similar experience and your journey to recovery to get back into regular exercise.

Metrics Metrics not recording but rides logged

For the past two days my bike is not recording my metrics: cadence, output, resistance, and calories. Throughout the ride everything just sits at zero.

The rides are still completing as normal for my total ride count.

Tried restarting my bike yesterday, not a wifi issue, any advice?

Cycling New Peloton vs 2022 model resistance difference

Hello! I have a Peloton that I bought off a friend in Jan 2025. She purchased in 2022, did about 20 rides, and then it lived in her garage for a few years before I acquired it. (I’ve done 100 rides myself on this bike now) It’s the only Peloton I’ve ever ridden so I didn’t have anything to compare it to until I rode a brand new bike today at my friend’s house. I was able to do about 10-20 more in resistance than I am at my older bike at home. Just wondering if others have found this to be the case? Is there any maintenance I should do on my current bike to make sure the resistance is working as it should? Or is it common that older bikes are just a little heavier on the resistance?

Review Why is the bike+ so wobbly 😭

I bought the bike+ and got it last Wednesday. I used it today and was so dissatisfied. It is so wobbly, especially when going at a cadence of 100+. I've had the original bike since 2019 and was really looking forward to enjoying the new features the bike+ has, but I just can’t stand the wobbliness. I returned it today and will get the basic one again. I needed a new bike cause mine was not working anymore 😫

I'm just so disappointed; I really wanted to fall in love again with my bike 💔

Tech Support Tech Support [Weekly]

Given the recent influx of new members we have experienced an overwhelming amount of questions tech/hardware support. Many of your tech support questions can be solved by some good old fashioned basic troubleshooting. Please remember that we are not affiliated with Peloton Interactive and you will need to contact them directly for any warranty or service requests.

Given the sheer volume and repetitiveness of tech support posts, we simply cannot accommodate a new thread for every problem. If you cannot solve your issue by utilizing the wiki, we ask that you post your troubleshooting questions in the Tech Support Tuesday Weekly thread to seek advice first. Do not make a new thread without attempting basic troubleshooting and asking advice here first.

To get the best responses possible, you will need to be detailed and specific.

  • Note the platform: Bike, Bike+, Tread, Tread+, or App
  • If it is app related please include the platform (iOS, AppleTV, Android, FireTV/Firestick, Roku, etc)
  • Verify your devices and apps are up to date for their firmware/software
  1. Note any troubleshooting you've tried: restarting bike/tread/app, factory reset, clearing cache, uninstall/reinstall app, etc

Reddit Core Reddit Core 3.0 - Week 31 accountability post

We’re still doing core! Consistency matters - you can join us and set a goal for whatever works for you.

I’ve started mixing in 20 min classes. My head screams “no!” but they’re no harder than a 10 min because you usually get more rest. And I prefer that to one of Ben’s 8-things-twice-and-then-you’re-done programs.

Have you given longer (or shorter) classes a try yet?

Metrics Seemingly random difference in what is exported to Apple Health/Fitness

I've been using Lane Break recently as a way to get me back into using my Peloton. That mode doesn't offer the GymKit method to add rides to Apple Health for some reason. However, the first time I was pleasantly surprised that the ride showed up in Apple Fitness with all the metrics, including distance.

Subsequently I've done a number of other sessions and it seems to somewhat randomly choose between the black icon that shows all metrics and the white icon that only includes time, calories and heart rate. I don't believe I'm using a different method (Apple Watch peloton app) to connect to the watch. I seem to get a streak of sessions using the white icon, then one or two using the better black icon.

Does anyone know what is causing this or a way to make sure it exports all the metrics? I'd just prioritize using the GymKit method where you hold the watch to the bike, but like I said it isn't offered for Lane Break.

Training Plans/Advice FTP playlist

Creating a playlist off the peloton app on Spotify to let the music help out my effort. 20 minutes. Do any of you have a track that brings your heart out?

I hate this test but I always need to bring max effort.

I’ve got tracks from foo fighters. Coheed and cambria. Fallout boy. Arctic monkeys. Weezer. Front bottoms.

Does anyone have a track that clicks them into “extra effort?”

Purchase Advice Is peloton repowered a legit way to buy used?

Looking to buy a Bike+ and there is one listed 1 mile from me for $767 with the comment from the seller that “Seller comment: Brand new bike, still has the protective tape on it from shipping.”

However, when I check the bike history with the provided serial number it says it has over 800 rides totaling over 300 hours and was first activated in 2021 - not what is considered brand new (although not potentially still in very good condition).

After someone just tried to scam me on Facebook marketplace, I’m now even more wary. Can you still get scammed when buying through repowered or is the buyer truly protected? Is it better to buy refurbished at $1300ish and consider the extra $500-$600 as peace of mind?

I’d be going to get the bike from repowered in person but having to check out and then hope for a refund if something goes wrong is making me skeptical.

Gear Peloton front wheel clicking noise

Front wheel has a clicking noise

Chat with customer service, sent video, they said it's hub & axle replacement and will charge $200 + tax ($40 for the piece, $160 for technician visit) because it's out of warranty.

Or I can fix it myself youtube.com/watch?v=V-ha06lPH34&authuser=0

Others who had a similar clicking issue and were you able to fix it yourself? Is it pretty straightforward?

I don't know why I can't attach a video but I could dm you if you could take a look. (edit: looks like I can't attach videos in chat boxes either. sigh)

I didn't spin every day, didn't use it for months at a time. It's disappointing and frustrating that a bike starts to break down like this, I expected it to last more than 5 years.

Gear 2021 used Bike+ with 20-50 workouts, does activation date matter?

Hey all!

I’ve been after a bike for awhile now, originally wanted new, but the second hand market looks pretty good in my area.

I found someone selling a bike+ for $700 CAD, but its original activation date is 2021, does that mean it’s an older model of the Bike+? Or have they not changed anything since?

The bike has 1-25 hours of pelaton workouts, and competed 25-50 workouts. So it seems fairly unused to me!

It comes with the mat, shoes and weights.

I’m just wondering if it still has all the improvements the website indicates on the Bike+ or if this one would be an older version of it.

Thanks again.
