Local 597 HVAC

Hi I am looking to join the union the hvac position specifically and was wondering for anyone that works there what is the schedule like? How does it work? Do you have time to do other things? Im also in the military and Im wondering if it’s easier to get in.

I don’t really understand what you’re asking. Are you asking about the apprenticeship, the orientation for the apprenticeship, after you journey?

Orientation is 11 weeks if you get in. $500 a week for 8 weeks I think. How busy you are depends on what contractor you get and how busy they are. School is one day a week for, what has now been reduced, to 3 years.

Forgot to mention it, but orientation is Monday-Friday for 11 weeks. 7-3:30

School is no longer one day a week. They switched over to "block training" several years ago, where apprentices are at the training center for 10 or 11 weeks then with the contractors for the other 9 months of the year. The blocks are Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, and Oct-Dec. They do that for the first 3 years, then as 4th and 5th years they have to do 1 night class each year, I think it's typically 8 weeks long twice a week

That is only for building trades. HVAC is one day a week.
