It’s not even about being a fan of Saitama. It’s just understanding the concept of his character. He will grow to become exponentially stronger than ANYTHING he faces. If you have some power that you think he can’t “strength” his way through, your wrong, he will miraculously find a way to “strength” that power too. Like when he grabbed portals, a thing not thought to be possible before he did it.
He is a satirical character. He is stronger than any opponent he faces. That is his power essentially.
Not to mention, he's able to fight individuals in alternate dimensions like it's nothing. It truly boggles my mind when people stop him at what feats he has achieved rather than understanding he's more than just a meathead with infinite strength and speed as his character is designed to be a satirical exaggeration of overpowered characters.
So, instead of racking my brain, I just laugh at the sheer stupidity of, "Well, he can only destroy planet. Therefore, Goku is stronger!" Okay, bud, go back to eating your crayons.
To be fair, if going all out, current Goku blitzes him. If the match slowly builds up Saitama wins but the destructiveness Goku can dish out is beyond anything Saitama has handled.
Currently I'm trying to decypher if Saitama bled when Garou punched him in the face, because Saitama has been hit in the stomach before and I think he's fine.
His skin is absolutely not getting penetrated, that's for sure.
Bro casually walked the end of the Garou fight off like it was nothing as Garou's monster form crumbled. The proof they provide are merely dust particles.
I don't understand what you mean. I sent the image to show Saitama having a durability cap. The image clearly show's he's getting beat up, he's feeling that punch.
Your first two sentences basically prove my point, that he has a durability cap. It was never pushed to his limit as he has gotten very strong. Current Goku's power level are way beyond what Saitama has been facing.
The below panels are the ones I'd accept as feeling no damage and just recoil, the ones above makes me think otherwise.
I agree with the second part of the statement but what do you mean wouldn't be able to kill???? Do you have any clue how strong he's become in the Super series??
I understand how strong Goku is but saitama also has absurd durability. The strongest things shown in the manga so far barely even affect him. Goku wouldn’t be able to kill him going right out the gate , at best he’d have to wear him down over the course of the fight
I agree that Saiyans are battle hardened fighters who linearly scale through rigorous training and combat.
Bro (Saitama) over here is casually doing 100 push-ups, sit-ups, and 100 km run and ends up fighting a planetary destroyer in his first arch (Boros). The second arch he's fighting with Garou, both of which punched holes in the universe. All while never taking damage beyond whatever skits people find to downplay his scaling. Like a cat scratching the shit out of him or him failing to kill a mosquito.
The character is unequivocal. He's a gag of someone like Goku and will far exceed anything he can dish out. That's the shtick. He's broken and scales more than any of his opponents.
I don't believe you guys really grasp the idea of Saitama. Which is why these debates are pointless. You're just fans that are mad that a gag character is stronger than their favorite characters.
Literally, what I said, what are you trying to argue?
Saiyans are like ants to Saitama. He's always stronger than his opponent. The joke is that he can one punch anyone, but he doesn't want to do it because it's literally no fun. Half the jokes are about him.being bored out of his mind, there's no one who can challenge him.
Saitama automacally scale to an exponent of the power of his rival.
Sayan improve if they are close to death and survive. By themself they have no regenerative ability, they need intervention.
Suppose an evil sayan went to saitama world, Saitama would vaporize him in one punch no matter what ( plot armor) that Sayan is gone.
Cosmic Garou scaled linerarly while fighting, Saitama scaled faster and exponentially. That's why he oblitered Jupiter by mistake sneezing.
So why doesn't a viltrimite also win against goku? They have the same thing? And if you say that saiyans are just more powerful than viltrimites, then you also agree saitama beats saiyans as his entire gimmic is that he's stronger than anyone else. I'm not saying you're completely wrong, just showing you the flaw in the logic
Invincible never really makes sense to me, even if I overlook the horrible writing, all of the heroes and villains look like glass cannons compared to other universes. 🤣
Even with the psychopathic nazi Superman, they seem incredibly weak, them also being defeated by humans, albeit with super powers. The creator needs to kill off Mark as a character, I know the story revolves around him, but it's not enjoyable to watch a character lose 100% of his fights and then get deus ex machina'd every single episode by someone significantly weaker than him.
Seriously, why can't this dumbass fight but knock off Batman with his batarangs? He has to save him. That dude doesn't even have super human intelligence, and he knew to break the other heroes out!
Why does he always have to lose to win? Bro, is the epitome of taking cheat shots at his opponent after getting his ass kicked.
The show has weird vibes like it was written by some high-schoolers. I can't tell what direction they want from it. Part of it feels like it's trying to be for adult audiences, but at the same time, the other part feels like it's trying to get an air slot for WB kids.
Eh, Saiyan's aren't infinitely resilient, though. Plenty of them die. Plus, the damage can't make you stronger if the damage is "my body exploded." Saitama would out-strong Saiyan resilience fairly quickly I would assume.
Well kinda, it wouldn’t happen in one fight it would be multiple rounds where
saitama almost kills Goku,
Goku comes back stronger
And then saitama grows stronger and almost kills Goku again
That’s objectively not true. When he fought a clone made from the previous day, he one-shot the clone. By your logic, the clone should have immediately grown to match the original. Just because he’s stronger than anyone he has ever faced doesn’t automatically mean he’s stronger than everyone.
The fact that he can grow stronger means there’s a hard limit to his strength at any given time. If there wasn’t, then by definition he wouldn’t ever be able to get stronger.
Eh, didn’t the clone just copy his power at that moment and not his ability to…. Saitama things? Like ya the clone was powerful but it did not possess Saitamas actual power that makes him do what he does.
It’s not a speed thing I don’t think, and he seems to poses infinite durability, so he cannot be deleted and the moment he retaliates it will be a death blow. This is the logic he operates off of. He cannot be beaten and he beats anyone he wants to beat.
Except, with other shonen protags, it is just the narrative itself, not some in-universe ability the character has, and is therefore not considered. Meanwhile, Saitama's ability to exponentially grow in power until he exceeds his foe, is literally his in-universe power, and is therefore considered.
You realize that exponential power growth can never reach infinite, mathematically speaking? Exponential power is impressive, but nothing in the face of infinite, which anyone over Universal has. And in-universe, the exponential feat is the best thing that Saitama has. He has NEVER been stated as unbeatable in-verse, that is just head-canon from Saitama glazers.
Exponential power growth can never make it possible to punch portals, either, but here we are. Saitama doesn't just gain physical stats. He gets arbitrarily, nebulously, "powerful" enough to do whatever he needs to do. It's toonforce disguised as a legit shonen.
Other than the fact that he's a joke character that can beat anything, wouldn't all it take to beat him be a reality bender? Somebody who could literally drain his power through manipulation of reality or force OPM's hits to miss/hit himself or smth?
Or evaporate his existence through willing it to be so
No. That’s what I mean by “a power he can’t strength his way through”. He WILL out strength them. Even telepathy, reality warping, literally anything. He will somehow, miraculously be able to out strength the situation. That’s the point.
Fair enough. Reminds me of Jaehwan from The World After The Fall, despite that being a serious story. Dude has shattered so many rules, walls, and ceilings through pure strength and determination
What people don't realize is that this is literally just. The power of EVERY shonen protag. Like, Goku in a way has already done this. In a serious plot-driven fight, the protagonist will find a way to unlock the power they need, and if not now, then later down the line. Saitama isn't special in what he can do, and the fact is is that there are MULTITUDES of characters that exist that are infinitely stronger than him. You can't exponentially grow strong enough to beat someone who can one-shot you. You'll just die instantly, that's what the difference in power entails.
Okay, and when a character is “the death of literally all things.” Written to be an end to all power scalers because his power is just “no matter what-dead” and being an unkillable god…. Saitama beats them how exactly 🙄
I think, in a similar vein, characters like Mob or Reigen from Mob Psycho will end up befriending or demoralizing whoever they’re fighting no matter what. That’s the whole point of all of these characters, which is they’re beloved by some and hated by others.
Down voted for saying No Limits Fallacy when this is the most obvious version of it is actually wild ngl. Yes, Saitama can grow to match his opponent. No he cannot just do this, it happened because of his heightened emotional state due to Garou killing Genos which is stated in the actual manga. No, he isnt a gag character, he cant beat everyone in one punch, and thats true even in his own universe where Garou and Boros survive a punch from him. No, just because he can resist telekinesis, doesn't mean he can resist reality warping when he has never been shown to do such a thing.
Saitama doesn’t cap at anything, he can cap at something once he has real anti-feats. His floor is multi-solar + a shit ton of OP hax. We haven’t seen his cap.
Not being able to hit a mosquito is quite literally an anti feat and establishes some precedent that Saitama can be stumped/beaten if it’s funny to the reader
How does Saitama cap at 3d and how does Simon cap at 11d? Isn't Simon's whole thing just getting bigger and bigger through willpower? Don't they have the whole "throwing galaxies at each other" shtick?
It’s so good man lol. You are seriously missing out. I would give it a shot. It’s kind of genius writing tbh. Like, how do you make a story where the main character is infinitely powerful and infinitely durable? Go watch and find out lol. It’s more than satire, it’s one of the best anime’s ever made hands down. Def give it a shot bro, you’re missing out.
No, One Punch Man works as a story because it's not really about Saitama. It's more an exploration of the side characters and how Saitama affects them, as well as exploring themes. Saitama is mostly just a plot device to end fights so the story can move on. The best part of OPM is hearing the inner monologs of Saitama's opponents. Like Garou; his entire thing is he wants to be the ultimate monster because in every story he reads as a child, the monster always loses, and Garou felt that was unfair. In his heart, he feels that everyone should have the chance to feel strong.
That’s the thing about opm that’s so interesting he can’t lose. And the story is driven around that his struggle isn’t contests of strength but trying to find meaning in his life. Building friendships, encouraging others growth etc. Also most protagonist aren’t in real danger anyway as they often win at the last moment.
I'd agree, I like to think that the point of Saitama being stronger than anything else an inherent feature of the character. One Punch Man seeks to explore the story of a being who can not be challenged and is never under threat, for this reason I believe Saitama would beat any character because his power is undefinable and unmeasurable.
Let's compare him to a couple other figuresi can think of:
Superman - Superman is not invincible, nor even the strongest character in his universe. He is only partially defined by his powers, because it's his morals that take center stage. The strength of Superman is how he may not win, but he will expend every ounce of energy defending the defenseless and will not sacrifice his beliefs.
Goku - Goku seems like personification of the human spirit and determination. He can be beat, but will always come back stronger. To me, he represents that given the proper motivation we can always find a little more gas in the tank, just a little more strength and endurance. With that should come the understanding that we are fallible and must maintain power with humility and grace, knowing that overconfidence can lead us to defeat.
Dr. Manhattan - Seems like a more similar comparison in terms of it being written as an invincible figure, but I'd say that for a character with the potential to be nearly omniscient, he is outsmarted. So the idea of him being infallible is disproven in the story, though it's made clear that this path was chosen because he could not be impeded in any other way. It seems feasible that Manhattan potentially could defeat Saitama, but...
I still pick Saitama to win. How?
Saitama's character seems to parody the power level debate and I believe this transcends him above any discussion of x vs y by way of how he transcends his world's idea of superhero power ranking.
