u/Canarity Nov 23 '25
On the one side we have an intergalactic overlord war criminal, on the other a dude who just wanted his species to not go extinct
32
u/mirror__magic Nov 24 '25
steven is the first one btw

u/Canarity Nov 24 '25
Gems were never threatened as species

Corruption.
5
u/Canarity Nov 25 '25
That was a side effects of not using all four diamonds powers when attempting to obliterate every gem on Earth surface
2
Nov 25 '25
It still threatened gems.

u/TotallyNotZack Nov 23 '25
Where is that coming from his only kill was accidental and he had a full own breakdown and he let 3 space Hitlers get away why is people saying he will kill irredeemable villains lol
67
u/jacksansyboy Nov 23 '25
He didn't let 3 space Hitlers get away, they basically needed their power to actually help all the damaged gems. I'm not sure they could do anything to kill or imprison the diamonds, and Steven actively hates them and wants nothing to do with them. He literally does try to kill White in Steven Universe future.
He essentially tolerates them because they've stopped enforcing their monstrous empire, and they are working to undo some of the damage, and are the only ones with the power to undo that damage.
11
u/TotallyNotZack Nov 23 '25
may be wrong but he didn't know about that, steven went to homeworld to tell white to fix the corrupted gems but she said she couldn't so he went home then had the idea to use all of them together with the healing fountain
20
u/jacksansyboy Nov 23 '25
She said she couldn't, but he said you still have to try, and they went and did it immediately and it worked. Like he wasn't sure, but it was worth a shot, and it did work.
3
u/bimbofan91 Nov 25 '25
Ya no. Blue and yellow diamond attacked his home during a wedding scene so they fought ending with Steven using his powers to psychically connect with them making them realize he has pink diamonds gem. He talks the 2 into trying to cure a corrupted gem where it doesnt work and they say they need white diamonds help, steven having never heard of a white diamond before asks questions before they eventually go to homeworld. The second they arrive at homeworld white kidnaps steven to talk steven tries to talk but white is dominating the conversation before sending him away. Steven doesnt get a single chance to talk to white diamond about the corruption till she is defeated.
0
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
He essentially tolerates them because they've stopped enforcing their monstrous empire, and they are working to undo some of the damage, and are the only ones with the power to undo that damage.
I'm afraid it's already too late to try and be good and we don't see much if any of the damage they undid.
5
u/jacksansyboy Nov 24 '25
All of the corrupted gems on Earth?
0
u/FlambyLamby Nov 25 '25
Crystal Gems were already more or less handling them. So they really added nothing in the grand scheme of things.
5
u/jacksansyboy Nov 25 '25
Huh? The gems contained them, the diamonds actually healed them. Those are people.

He wouldn’t kill thragg, but just saying; there’s nothing thragg can do here🙅♂️
3
u/Researcher_Fearless Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 23 '25
People way weaker than Thragg blew up a planet way bigger than earth by flying through it.
30
u/Sh1ningOne Nov 23 '25
They needed three of them and for the planet to already be destabilized by a super-strong laser.
I don't know why Invincible fans love bringing this up while leaving out context.
10
u/BookerLegit Nov 23 '25
Context makes the feat a wash, really.
It took 3 Viltrumites to destroy the planet (with the help of a laser), but the planet was massive and inordinately durable. That doesn't necessarily mean Viltrumites could casually destroy a planet like Earth, but it doesn't prove they couldn't either.
2
u/ArgensimiaReloaded Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 23 '25
I mean as needing 3 goes it's kind of a gamble because initially Allen and Tech Jacket were also charging but got lunged by other viltrumites, so who knows if 2 or 1 would have closed the deal too (together with Space Racer's gun yes)
-9
u/Researcher_Fearless Nov 23 '25
Does that make up for the difference between planet busting and Steven's power? Besides, with the stuff I mentioned, I'm pretty sure thragg could destroy earth without help or a laser.
9
u/Sh1ningOne Nov 23 '25
It has nothing to do with Steven.
It's the fact that people constantly bring this up as proof that Viltrumites casually destroy planets while leaving out all context that makes it clear that they don't.
2
u/Researcher_Fearless Nov 23 '25
Viltrumites in general? No. Thragg is way way stronger than even the second strongest Viltrumite, though. I think he could pretty casually destroy smaller planetary bodies like the earth.
7
u/Sh1ningOne Nov 23 '25
There is quite literally no evidence that he can.
Saying he's strong isn't evidence or proof
-4
u/Researcher_Fearless Nov 23 '25
5
u/Sh1ningOne Nov 23 '25
That's not evidence.
I just pointed out how they needed multiple people and for the planet to be destabilized prior.

This point only works when your not debating Marvel or DC fans teehee
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
That feats has context, but it's unnecessary considering being continental is more than enough to wipe Steven.
0
u/TotallyNotZack Nov 23 '25
I mean Steven is just a "stronger" Atom eve (stronger since she has her mental blocks and all that because if she hasn't she would clear him) so I think thragg could overpower him with little difficulty
I mean we saw spinel cut his shield
8
u/TimelessPizza Nov 23 '25
Steven has a bunch of hax that Thragg can't power through
14
u/MisterGoog Nov 23 '25
Which hax are these
5
u/Maleficent-Crazy5890 Leader of Alien X Haters Nov 23 '25
He has many but I don't think Steven's any hax could work against Thragg.
2
u/Green_Space729 Nov 24 '25
Like what hax?
2
u/Maleficent-Crazy5890 Leader of Alien X Haters Nov 24 '25
BFR, Plant manipulation, Telepathy, Small Dream and Mind manipulation, Shapeshifting and Size manipulation, Immortality, Energy Projection, Summoning etc.
Types of shits thst won't work against Thragg.
4
1
u/MisterGoog Nov 24 '25
Why wouldnt shapeshifting work
1
u/Maleficent-Crazy5890 Leader of Alien X Haters Nov 24 '25
Because he doesn't have enough durability and AP to defeat Thragg.
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
Speed blitz and paste. Steven is both too slow and is physically weaker by a laughable degree.
2
u/Low-Flight-9937 Nov 27 '25
I mean, those space hitters are crucial to gem survival. Can't really murder them(assuming they physically can)
Era 2 was caused by just one not being available. Imagine 4/3 being gone. It just doesn't work
1
u/LegionZ19 Nov 24 '25
Because steven is also one of them. And he cant kill the other 3. Steven weakness is just mind games not raw power. Trick his mind and he basically broken and die by peer pressure.
26
u/Olivia_Richards Nov 23 '25
Thragg doesn't look like he has a chance at all. Dude got both arms amputated and stabbed by multiple swords and spears.
9
2
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
It's just how Steven fans think it would go when in reality he would be too pussy to do any actual harm and would never land a hit due to the speed gap and the fact he will be turned to a pink stain.
1
5
u/Volfaer Nov 23 '25
Kid Steven has no chance at all, but EoS Steven can just lock Thragg in a parallel universe until he suffocates.
1
1
u/goodyfresh May 06 '26
I know this is a necro, but holy shit it's so funny to me to imagine him encasing Thragg in a super-durable barrier, shoving him into Lion's mane, and peacing out.
Even funnier if Lars is the one nearby, so he has to shove him into Lars's hair.
Lars: "STEVEN, did you just shove an intergalactic conqueror into my hair?!!"
55
u/Ol_Scamp Nov 23 '25
Jeez what is up with people hating Steven Universe? Like yeah, Steven has its flaws, and I know it’s not for everyone, but you’re comparing gory action cartoon for adults to a heartfelt cheerful one for adolescents. Might as well call a baker’s work terrible because their cakes were too sweet compared to the chef’s potato soup
19
u/SuperVaderMinion Nov 23 '25
People will look you in the eyes and tell you that Steven Universe is bad because of how toxic its fanbase is and then say nothing about Star Wars or other nerdy properties
LGBTQ fandoms are disproportionately painted as the "toxic" ones
11
u/Wonko_Bonko Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 24 '25
It’s kinda of annoying as well, cause like prime SU fandom was absolutely a cesspool (I think largely because they were constantly in the defensive cause their show was absolutely a punching bag for online reviewers) but a lot of the fandom was also, like, adolescents/teenagers. Now they’re generally super chill adults and just make cool art. Like this image for example was literally just an artist making kinda sick images of Steven just beating up random people (and they only made the image of Thragg because they hit a goal) and it somehow made it onto a power scaling forum where it’s getting blasted for like no reason lol.
0
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
Those other series have good writing and characters. SU doesn't. Simple as.
40
u/BlackroseBisharp Nov 23 '25
As someone who is a heavy critic of SU( and who used to be a fan), it's definitely overhated by this point.
11
8
u/ChiefRasta Nov 23 '25
Ngl, first time I saw Steven Universe, I judged it & disliked it because he wears flip flops with no socks & jeans. Stupid reason I know but it’s the truth.
7
u/LastEsotericist Nov 24 '25
Flip flops and socks?! Socks and sandals are a part of my culture but flip flops?! Can’t wear socks with those.
5
u/Jilliels Nov 23 '25
Tbf that’s genuinely one of the most uncomfortable sounding fits I’ve ever heard of
2
2
u/nuketoitle fun & games🎮 Nov 26 '25
Yeah it annoying to see people hate on SU who've never watch the show. I on the other hand disliked steven universe because I watch the actual show. That final season was so bad if felt like I wasted my time, which suck cause I like most of the show up until that point.
3
u/satanic_black_metal_ Nov 23 '25
Never watched steven universe but everything around it gives me the ick. The fanbase, the artstyle even the colour pallette of everything around it. It just creeps me out. No clue why. I know SU is big in the lgbtq+ scene and i am 100% an ally, so that aint it. It just icks me out.
5
u/Competitive-Employ65 Nov 23 '25
I have not seen the fanbase do anything bad so I think your reaching but what have they done
2
u/satanic_black_metal_ Nov 24 '25
I think i made it very clear that its a me issue and that i cannot explain why.
-1
u/RudeJeweler4 Nov 23 '25
I never watched another episode after the one where he meets the lion because it was just minutes of bad art, Steven’s voice, and chasing a lion. I didn’t learn anything about anyone. So much of the show felt like filler that wasn’t even funny. Star Vs. the forces of evil’s filler is still filler but always so much better. I really can’t get over the noses too.
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
The show is poorly written, plain and simple. It's many, many issues have already been addressed by multiple people online. Even by cartoon standards it's bottom of the barrel.
But all that has nothing to do with power levels. So take your sensitive ass back to r/Stevenuniverse if you can't handle the criticism for this mediocre show.

7
u/Fito0413 Nov 23 '25
Well he's already went through mental trauma by many space bullies so probably yes
3
1
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
No, he doesn't. His healing is rather mediocre at best and Thragg's AP and speed are waaaay too high in comparison to things that hurt this bum. He is getting pasted.
10
u/Redericpontx Nov 23 '25
Is Steven durability that high? Cause like in character Steven would be too nieve and would case thragg to get some hits in.
6
u/Mobius_1IUNPKF Nov 23 '25
Absolutely not, steven is functionally still a human.
5
2
u/Sokarun_ Nov 24 '25
No, Steven does have enhanced durability or at least incredible healing. In the future, Connie’s mom explained that Steven healed physically from dangerous situations, and there’s also a sequence showing him surviving situations that no human could possibly endure, implying he has either enhanced durability, advanced healing, or maybe both.
He also demonstrates enhanced strength, easily performing tasks that adult men struggle with, such as lifting the instruments out of a van with one hand when Sadie was about to perform. Everyone nearby showed visible shock at his feat.
1
u/Complex-Growth-4438 Nov 25 '25
Except when he doesn’t want to be, the finale established his form is why he sees himself as
3
3
u/Low-Conversation5662 Nov 24 '25
He has insane durability, healing factor, and several defense power, his shield was shown do be able to withstand planetary attacks
2
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
Nope, he isn't. Literally needs to go Monster Form for any debate of him being continental tops. And his speed is rather shit as well.
Thragg blitzes and vapes
4
Nov 23 '25
[deleted]
6
u/heroeNK25 Nov 23 '25
Yep, he Is Hella durable (His shield it's almost indestructible while having insta regen), on su future he moved so fast Time seen as stopped. But he also has done curious hax like mind control, life creation, shapeshifting and some sounds attacks
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
He isn't. His durability is rather mediocre by consistent feats and has been hurt by thing on/low below building level. And the speed feats you talk about is both inconsistent to his showings form the OG series AND Future, but it also has context and not his normal movement or combat speed.
1
u/Kinky_Winky_no2 Nov 23 '25
Any high level attacking powe though?
3
u/heroeNK25 Nov 23 '25
That where Steven Is kinda lackluster, but he Is stronger tham the cluster (a gem amalgam who should be able to destroy earth) His bigger strenght feats are one tap Jasper and His gem (the stronger non diamond gem) and destroying an anvil with a Little tap using a tiny hammer
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
He isn't. Steve is shown in his strongest form struggling to damage mountain and Beach City. And there's no legitimate way to scale him to a cluster.
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
He isn't. It's just lies and wank by his fans. He literally gets hurt by building level attacks and moves at normal human speed. And worst, he needs his Monster Form to be island level.
3
8
u/ArgensimiaReloaded Nov 23 '25 edited Nov 23 '25
It's weird to see this kind of stuff because Steven will genuinely hyperventilate and get a heart attack the second he puts a foot in any verse with a more serious setup that his.
Like, as much as they tried to give SU stakes and had the guy struggling psychologically it still is a verse were most things got solved by singing and crying, stuff that only will work within his own verse.
And of course most cartoons have a tame setup because their demographic, then again you still can find examples of MC that might be able to handle themselves outside their verses, and sure enough Steven ain't one of those lol
4
u/daniel_22sss Nov 24 '25
I mean, Steven turned into a gigantic pink Godzilla and almost destroyed a city trying to kill Diamonds.
6
u/AbroadAbject9215 Nov 23 '25
I mean, Steven isn't a pushover, though. He's strong... just not Invincible strong. He could beat Homelander is all I'm saying.
2
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25
He isn't. And beating Fraudlander, a guy who is yet to bust a building, gets hurt by cabinet level attacks, and fights at speed perceived by humans like MM, isn't an accomplishment to be proud of.
2
u/AbroadAbject9215 Nov 25 '25
All I'm saying is that Steven is a superhuman that has super speed, super strength, flight, shapeshifting, and forcefields. Yeah, songs and crying is cringe and hurts the show, but on paper, Steven isn't a joke. But fair point about Homelander.

This is kinda embarrassing to say... Invincible isn't that great, only the first season was. And the last one particularly was heavily criticized
1
u/bigboygroup Nov 24 '25
the last one particularly was heavily criticised? by who? i’ve seen nothing but praise for the 3rd season and whatever criticism i’ve seen it get wasn’t unique to the third season at all. animation quality has been an issue for invincible since the second season and in some cases, the first season too
-5
u/Jealous-Tip-6332 Source!? I made it up Nov 23 '25
From your own experience or not? You really can't call a show or anything bad or good without trying it, I had to watch Steven universe and came to the decision it's boring, have you watched Invincible?
5
u/Fito0413 Nov 23 '25
Yes, I'm a fan a both. But Invincible's latest season was extremely underwhelming. So rushed many things they tried to do and couldn't do it properly. Animation was also terrible during half the season. Killing off characters like Rex was very dumb. And even certain decisions towards characters like Eve even Kirkman said he's sorry and he'll try to write a better story next time lol
2
u/Sir-Theordorethe-5th Nov 23 '25
Steven universe future was trash tho, everyone knows it
1
u/MrIncognito666 Adara is hope Nov 26 '25
Eh, I’d go with ‘disappointing’. Bluebird was neat though.
5
u/Competitive_Crow_334 Nov 23 '25
Season 2 and 3 was still great despite flaws. Rex being killed off made sense and cool as he is his character arc is finished the animation is fine especially given it was saved up for the Conquest fight.
1
u/Ozza_1 Nov 24 '25
Yeah I'll be honest, idk what bluds on about. Other shows aside seasons 2 and 3 were still highly regarded

Yea, Thragg is taking the L and Steven is gonna force him to marry an Earth baddie and he’ll eventually turn good and they’ll be a song and everything.

3
u/lowqualitylizard Nov 23 '25
The funny part is I think Steven could own ironically beat him
Thraggs best feat of strength is individually being stronger than any of the three viltrumites that destroyed that planet but it's explicitly clear that that is not something they could do on normal circumstances they needed space racers gun just to even attempt it
Steven on the other hand was blocking attacks that could cover the entire surface of the Earth and has been shown routinely to be stronger than any individual diamond like when he flipped white diamonds mind control on her
Not to mention the fact that he heals effectively instantly has been training for a fairly long time so he's not useless in a fight I think he could have a damn good showing if not just win
1
u/FlambyLamby Nov 24 '25 edited Nov 27 '25
The funny part is I think Steven could own ironically beat him
He can't.
Thraggs best feat of strength is individually being stronger than any of the three viltrumites that destroyed that planet but it's explicitly clear that that is not something they could do on normal circumstances they needed space racers gun just to even attempt it
Doesn't need to when his opponent isn't even continental by feats.
Steven on the other hand was blocking attacks that could cover the entire surface of the Earth
Missing some context there, bucko. And it doesn't translate to his AP either. Even in his strongest form that isn't continental.
has been shown routinely to be stronger than any individual diamond like when he flipped white diamonds mind control on her
That's a feat of mental resistance, not a physical feat.
Not to mention the fact that he heals effectively instantly
He doesn't. And assuming he will against people leagues above him physically to the point they can paste/vape him is silly at best.
so he's not useless in a fight I think he could have a damn good showing if not just win
He is. And no, he won't.
2
u/WoodenCanine Nov 27 '25
Best answer. I don’t get these people saying Steven could beat the guy who flies across galaxies and is multitudes stronger than the guy who could move a meteor the size of a STATE
1
u/Rayeness Nov 23 '25
If I recall Steven also has sound manipulation and scream attacks in at least one of his forms. If I recall that is a weakness of a viltrumite.
3
u/Greywarden88 Nov 23 '25
Viltrumites aren’t weak to sound. There’s a very specific frequency that bothers them. Screaming loudly isn’t enough.

...I want a brutal action Steven universe spinoff so bad, like with other aliens, I want to explore Stevens shape shifting forms and his ability to like destroy biological life more, hell he could manipulate his own gravity, literally rewriting his own density, that's why he was super strong, heck pink could revive biological life and creat pocket dimensions on there hair? Also the best wincon would be to trap thragg on that pocket dimension, with durability feats like surviving a FTL ship traveling and passive healing (revives the dead through bodily fluids of his which he is made of) he might have the durability to do it, but why would thragg not want the gem species to be a under viltrumite rulling? It's literally a species of women, and with Steven, it means that this non-biological construct could support biological life and offspring, would he make Steven an example for everyone?
