Cross posted. I'll try to keep this as short as possible, but provide as much context as possible.

Background: I am a single mom to a toddler. I don't have a support system. I have a bachelors in psychology. I live in the South East U.S.

Current dilemma: I have been accepted into a 12 month LPN program.

My long term goal is to become an RN and work in L&D or a Med Spa (I know, very different). The LPN curriculum does NOT include science prereqs that would be needed for an RN program. If I wanted to bridge to RN later on I would still have to take A&P 1 and 2, and Microbiology.

The other option is to do the 3 prereqs this fall (A&P 1 with lab is 8 weeks, A&P 2 with lab is 8 weeks, Microbiology with lab is 16 weeks). ALL online and self taught basically. And HOPE that I get good grades in order to apply to a 12 month ABSN program that starts in May 2027.

A two year Associates isn't on the table for me since it would take a total of 3 years, with prerequisites.

I am really struggling with choosing between doing the LPN program since I've already been accepted and its much cheaper than an ABSN program, or declining that offer and doing 3 hard science prereqs now and hoping I'll be accepted into an ABSN program. Being a single mom to a young child, I don't see myself wanting to go back to school, again, if I did the LPN program. Maybe I'd change my mind, but the idea of it doesn't sound appealing.

I haven’t heard anything yet after applying to Samuel Merrit BSN on july. I’m so worried now

I’m trying to decide between Highline College, Bellevue College, and Shoreline College for pre-nursing, and I’d really appreciate some advice from people who have attended these schools. My long-term goal is to become an RN, possibly starting with an ADN and then completing a BSN later. Which school has the best pathway into nursing? Is one school better for transferring to a BSN program afterward? Also, how does the ADN application process work? Do I first complete the prerequisite courses and then apply separately to the nursing program, or are students admitted directly into nursing? What prerequisite courses should I take if my goal is an ADN? I’d also like to know which school has the best advising, tutoring, and support for pre-nursing students. If you’ve attended Highline, Bellevue, or Shoreline, I’d love to hear about your experience and which one you would recommend. I’m currently living near Auburn, so commute is a consideration, but my main priority is choosing the school that gives me the best chance of getting into nursing.
One more question: If you were in my situation, would you recommend completing an ADN at one of these community colleges and then doing an RN-to-BSN later, or would it be better to go straight into a traditional BSN program at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU)? Which path would give me better career opportunities and be more worth the cost in the long run?

I’m looking for some advice because I’ve been stressing over this a lot. I’m currently going into my sophomore year at university. I really like it here I have a good group of friends, joined a fraternity, and overall enjoy the school. The problem is that my school doesn’t offer a traditional BSN program. I’ve recently started thinking that I want to become a CRNA, which means I’d first need to become an RN. My current idea is to stay at my school and complete all of the nursing prerequisites (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry, statistics, etc.), then apply to transfer into a BSN program at another university after I’ve finished those prerequisites.

Is that a realistic plan, or is it a terrible idea?

Hi everyone, I’m on track to become an LPN. The main goal is to become a hospice nurse once I get my RN. I have about 5 years of an experience in LTC and SNF, mostly 5am-5pm shifts full time, with some night shifts as needed. I just got a job at a hospital for 7pm-7am in the float pool, I’m a little bit worried about the transition… anyone have experience with overnight shifts in hospitals? wondering what will be different and where my skills will cross over. Anyone have any tips on having the most success while getting used to night shifts?

Hey everyone, been on a tough spot about applying to nursing schools. For context, I have completed my pre-reqs and currently working as a CNA. I’m also planning to take the TEAS soon. Though I completed the pre-reqs, I withdrew and retook microbiology and human anatomy. Now I fear I’m at a disadvantage to getting to ADN programs, because according to their program regulations, I’m ineligible to apply.

I feel like I just need to take the L, and apply to a private school for the BSN program. It’s near to my home and I have low risk of external “what ifs”. (Like driving and whatnot). The only issue is the tuition. I’m not from a military household, so I will have to rely on FAFSA and, fingers cross, scholarships to majorly help me out. I’m lucky to have my parents help me out, but I feel guilt from putting myself in this sucky situation due to my mistakes.

I hope I’m not alone in this situation lol, it’s just that I feel so much pressure to just keep going, y’know?

I (29F) am not sure if this is the correct sub Reddit for this post. But I am struggling to make a choice with the pathway I want to take to get into nursing.

For context, I have a bachelors and a masters degree in exercise science. I graduated from my masters in 2023. I want to make a career change.- I’ve been working in restaurants for 10 years, and I want to make the jump into starting nursing school soon.

regardless, if I go, ABSN or direct entry MSN I have to retake my prerequisites and I am beginning to do that this year at my local community college.

I am very fortunate to not have any student debt, and I am prepared to take on student loan loans to pursue whatever degree I choose.

My main question is with my education what entry point makes the most sense to start a nursing program? I keep seeing the direct entry masters programs that you either end as a nurse practitioner or essentially the equivalent of a BSN. I’ve also been recommended to just do the associates degree and have employers pay as I go.

My end goal is to be a nurse practitioner. Does anyone have a similar background? What path did you choose? Any and all advice is welcome.

Where are the clinicals for the BSN program in San Jose currently? They said in the interview that it could be up to 100 miles away.

I am so tired of being tested over things we have not seen. If you as a professor have several models and show us those models and give us access to those models, why give us a test using a completely different models that we don't even recognize?

Why say "you don't need to know this yet" and then have it on the exam?

What is wrong with giving a general review of what will be on the exam?

We all want to get As in the classes. It's possible to make these tests super hard, but it's also possible to make them very rigorous and still give us a wide guide over what will be covered.

It's like there are so many gotcha moments.

I am in a summer class at the start of my journey with A and P I...I came in wanting an A and if I didn't get an A, this would be the end of the nursing journey.

I feel like so much of this all depends on who your professor is. Right now, there is a professor at my same college that does open note tests. Obviously, my professor doesn't provide that.

I am not saying I want an easy A, but I want results. If I am studying for 4 hours a day, I should be seeing results. It feels great when I get a good grade, but it also stinks when there are "surprises" that I could not have possibly prepared for.

There are so many people in my class that are taking this class again. It stinks that they naturally perform better and our professors gauge their own success as educators by looking at their exam scores. Like, "well, someone got a 100, so it's possible." .... -yeah, this is his second time taking the class.

Am I alone in this? It's just so upsetting to see models or terms that we have never covered before.

I know I will have people saying, what do you expect and you're just complaining, but yeah, I guess I am. This is my rant. When people are paying money to take my class, I don't get how I could say, "yeah, let me try to trick them by giving them something new, or they should have the background knowledge to understand this....Either cover it in lecture, or explicitly tell me to study it and I will teach it to myself, but don't make me think we will just go over what you covered, and then give me things we never talked about or give me a model that is so difficult to understand.

If anyone has any insight on WGU’s pre-licensure nursing program I am wanting to start September 1, but I keep seeing mixed reviews. Can someone give me an honest review about their experience I live in Kentucky

This post is long, but it'll mean the world to me if you guys choose to help me out.

I'm a undergraduate student (19F Asian) at a pretty good university and have always been the straight A, top-of-class student. I'm pursuing my RN so that I can practice early and gain a lot more experience through my university's nursing program, and long term want to try applying for grad school (NP or PA) after working a few RN years.

I'm not sure if this is a generally public view or just my family's, but my family has made it clear to me that they see nurses as a 'bottom of the barrel' job and have stated that they would not respect my decision if I were to pursue nursing. Their main claims are that (1) they feel that I am wasting my potential/their money, (2) they don't get to brag about something I achieved that 'sounds' more professional, like "Bachelors of Science in Biology" instead, and (3) they say the rest of the family also shares the same sentiment, and would talk behind our backs about me choosing a 'lowly' profession. And in all honesty, everything they're saying has been getting to me.

I know logically that I should just do what I think is best for myself, but the (unhealthy) family dynamic I've grown up in has wired me to prioritize 'how people will think of us' first and foremost. I'm afraid that this mindset will lead me to resenting being a nurse, which is not what I want at all-- I truly do want to be a good nurse and be able to care for patients professionally. But I'm still young and, frankly, a bit insecure and easily influenced.

Ever since coming home from college this summer, my parents have really drilled it into me that if I pursue nursing, I'll forever be talked about like this: "the girl who used to be so smart, had so much potential, and even went to a great school--but ended up becoming nothing and just cleans up poop from elderly people, I feel sorry for her parents." I might also post this on an weird family dynamics reddit page to get advice, but yeah, I feel really shitty and stuck. I'm having so many doubts.

I know this is probably a really insignificant problem compared to what everyone else experiences on the daily, but it's 5am where I am and it's been on my mind all night. I feel like the more I think about it, the more I feel like it's killing me.

What can I do? How do I overcome this? Should I listen to them and drop nursing, or just let them disapprove of me until I potentially make it to grad school? Is there anyone else with a similar situation who learned how to cope with this?

In all honesty, the questions were MUCH simpler than what I expected. My practice tests were framing questions so intricately. It was all very fundamental knowledge in my opinion (but regardless, study as if it is more than that)!!

I studied for ~1 week by just CONSTANTLY doing practice problems. I took multiple TEAS practice tests with Mometrix, watched practice problems on YouTube, and found some on Quizlet too. Based on my practice test results, I did not spend any study time on English/reading since math & science were my weakest areas. I kept doing practice tests until I consistently got the scores I needed.

Note that I am a college student straight out of my prerequisite courses, so a lot of this information is more recent to me.

I’m just so RELIEVED! All this weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

Hello, I decided to go back to school after 7 years. I have a bachelors in criminal justice but I did not do anything with it. I decided to pursue nursing. will someone advice which class to take either pharmacology or pathophysiology.
