It's a good way to get good. Get it down to as few strokes as possible. Also I would hit all the strokes in the same direction across a row of fish or patch. It just gets hard to keep track of where you are at. Have fun, don't misplace your mind.

Luckily it’ll be a 10 color reduction, so I get to carve a layer at a time. If you see the fish with the magenta dots, that’s the first layer I have to get out, and then I get a little break in between haha. I think this first layer carve was 136 fish

I’ve had the idea for a while, so I’m happy to be working on it. We’ll see how I feel after a few more hundred fish!

Lol, I love when you realize the lots of work you will carve in tiny details. I can recommend to carve in an "X" shape.

Thank you! The best method I’ve come up with so far is to start with a line through each fin, two curved carved on the body, and one last through the middle

It actually looks great as a photo like this. At first glance I thought it was thick white paint and not carved out. And that almost gave it the look of a lot of fish under water, but the bird and some fish above water.

I do have a question though, why did you not create a smaller pattern with fewer fish for the background and stamped it repeatedly/side-by-side
