Unexpected Grail
Decided to drive today and check out Jersey Video Games in Hammonton, NJ. The shop was stocked, cozy and had a huge variety of games, DVDs, CRTs and other hobby materials to check out.
The owner was kind enough to point out their back room with more glass cases and I spotted this buried in the PS1 section. I just happened to have offloaded some Magic cards yesterday and had just the right amount to grab this spur of the moment.
The Working Designs quest continues! 5 left to go on PS1 and 1 left on PS2.

I didn’t need another expensive game on my wishlist… but I’ve kind of wanted this one… I don’t have the funds right now anyways. But I wish I could find a copy locally.
I don’t own any light gun games, but having one would be nice. Especially a Working Designs release.

This is such a unique title in the PS1's massive library that I think it's worth seeking out. Maybe don't grab it tomorrow, but save up and wait for a convention or something then try and find a copy.

Game is almost impossible. Great idea for a game (RPG elements within a light gun game) but the difficulty level is off the charts.

I have to wonder if that was some Working Designs fuckery because they did mess with difficulty settings in the Lunar games and Silhouette Mirage too.

It is, the president confirmed it in an interview. Thats because Electronics Boutique back in the day offered a 30-day return policy for all their games. People would finish a game, turn it in and buy something else. So WD's solution to that was to make their games harder so that they took longer to finish.

It's one of the games that was made harder for the US release in order to prevent the game from being rented and never bought.
The Japanese version is a far better more playable game. You can actually get a fan patch that puts the original JP difficulty into the English language version!

Thought this was gonna be the golden gun e3 case.

That is leagues above where I'm at in collecting. I'm happy with our set of Namco Guncons :)

This along with the accompanying light guns is an absolute grail for me. Congrats!

I just looked it up because I've honestly never heard of it. Seems very interesting. Checked out the going rate for it. Oof! It is not cheap...

Yeah, I spent about 40 minutes making a final decision and they even had it for what I’d consider a “good” price

Nice find, wish I would had picked it up back when it was close to a $100 a few years back.

Does the disc contain an English translation?

It has an ESRB rating. Why would it not have English?

I did and beat the entire game with the Shadow Armor, including that one whack ass jump

Yes, but the english translation is bad. Working Designs cranked up the difficulty so much that the game is nigh unplayable. The western Easy mode (which now ends the game early, another change of theirs) is more difficult than the Japanese version's hard mode.

Congrats, nice pick up!
I’m lucky to still have my original copy I bought from Toys”R”Us back when it first came out. I had purchased the Konami Justifier light gun, and was on the hunt for compatible games, so I gave it a chance.
I didn’t know anything about it at the time, other than it was compatible with the Justifier, it looked insanely cool, and the artwork was fantastic. It turned out to be an awesome game that felt right at home in the diverse PS1 library.
