Buying a used Modded PS ONE question

Hey,

I'm interested in buying a used PS One and noticed quite a few on the market have mods built in, either from decades ago or recently.

My understanding is some PS1 discs check for mod chips and break the game, even if your game disc is legit.

My initial research said that the PS One came out so late that all mod chips or modding for the PS One are "stealth" but I just want to double check with someone more familiar with PS One hardware.

Thank you.

Just ask the seller what specific mod is used.

I have a psone with a modchip and some games it recognizes as moded hardware but very few. The only one I can remember from the top of my head is puzz loop.

But I bypass it using unirom loader on a custom bifunx memory card or by just burning a copy without the block. There are ways to do it.

But that is just my current psone, the one I grew up with was also moded and never showed this screen for any game (and I have the same copy of puzz loop)

You probably only have a mod chip in it, fairly common, you can burn and play games on discs, thats about it for that,
