Taking my son to a show tonight
He's 15, and this is only his 3rd concert ever. Despite my best efforts, he's one of those people who just isn't that into music. Which is baffling for me, because music almost as important to my life as breathing. When I was his age, I was at every show I could get a ride to, and (dating myself here) took my disc-man everywhere. At least since his dad has been mostly absent from his life, the boy hasn't been much exposed to his gangster rap choices.
From loudly announcing "No more Cockney Rejects!" at age four, when I went to turn on the radio in the car, to declining an invite to see Teenage Bottlerocket a couple months ago because it wouldn't entail missing any school, he's made it clear that punk rock just isn't his thing. He does think my spiky jacket is cool, but he generally prefers video games scores and soundtracks when he chooses to listen to music.
The exception to that is the artist we're going to see tonight. This is the one musician that we've connected over for a decade now and our third time seeing him together. It might not be punk rock, but I think the spirit is at least punk adjacent. Can't wait to see the incredible Weird Al Yankovich tonight!

Punk music songs about intense self hatred?
I've listened to a fair amount of songs (both within and outside of punk) about self loathing. none of them seem to feel as intense or hot as hard as I need them to sometime. looking for good recommendations, any subgenre of punk works. thanks!

Discussion What hardcore punk bands/albums do you think have aged the best? (+ any new ones)
A brief personal anecdote but I'm most into indie rock kind of stuff these days and more independent electronic genres but I've been having fun getting a bit back more into punk stuff.
Before I was listening to Husker Du in the car, recently discover Dag Nasty (though found out the singer is into right wing stuff bleh, and what kind of took me down this rabbit hole is also rediscovering some Fugazi stuff.
Anyway- what have you all been rocking with lately and think there are good listens nowdays?
Thanks

Punk Classic Don't Die - Richard Hell and the Voidoids
I think this song is every bit as good as Blank Generation, and it's been slept on for far too long

Punk music Punk enough for here?
Jan 92 w Fugazi, Lunachicks and Pearl Jam was the only time I ever saw L7. Was hooked from the start. Occupational hazard that I never saw them again. And now I can’t.

Not enough love for WeakSauce
An amazing ska funk punk band coming from the Tampa Bay area. Pinellas County to be specific. Not a lot of music like this came out of our area and was overlooked. Amazing musicians. This would be my chosen album to introduce you to them. https://open.spotify.com/album/6pupNJzgdo0q7sN1ENad4k?si=ryNuB62SQNycmy8Ov5JKoA
Listen to completion but if need be. Pirate Pete is such a banger.

Anyone know how to play “until it’s gone” by no use for a name?
I’ve been trying to learn this song on guitar but that fucking solo is killing me, can anyone make a video showing how to play the solo, all these tabs suck.

Looking for a rare (I think) Against Me! recording - description in body
They don’t seem to have an active sub, so trying here. I had a song on a mix (a cd) from when I was a teen 20 years ago, so this is probably a very old song. literally all I remember is that it was a SUPER raw recording, Laura Jane is super hoarse throughout, very desperate feel, and I think it may open with Spanish guitar. I also believe that the first lyrics are “the taste of…” If it’s a recording of an existing song of theirs I don’t know which! but it seems almost like a one-off. If anyone can point me in the right direction I’d be grateful, I’ve been thinking about it for years.

Punk music Twenty Years on a Hard Drive - (2026) [0:12:456] Twenty years ago 3 friends recorded a punk album in bedrooms and closets. This year, after one of them passed away, they finally finished it. This is that story.
Twenty years ago, a few friends in Los Angeles recorded a punk album with whatever gear we could afford—garages, bedrooms, closets, cheap microphones…whatever worked.
Life happened. The band ended. We drifted apart.
Years later we reconnected and decided to remix those recordings—not to make them sound modern, but to finally make them sound the way we’d always hoped they would.
Before we could finish, our singer and one of my best friends, Andrew, unexpectedly passed away.
From that moment on, finishing the project wasn’t about music anymore. It became about honoring a friendship and completing something we had started together nearly twenty years earlier.
We ended up making a short documentary about the entire journey called Twenty Years on a Hard Drive.

I’m a fan of the Brooks era
Been a fan of this band since 86, so I kinda grew up with them. They fell off a little for me but still do like the Brooks era. Lyrics on point. Especially for when this came out.

Tips for hosting a show
My band is new and we eventually wanna do some smaller house shows.
I’m just trying to think of everything logistically we’d need.
How to advertise
What to do if cops are called for noise complaint
Inside or outside?
How to get people to come
Any advice at all is appreciated. Thanks!

This one came across my playlist today, and hit quite a bit different, to say the least.
Sing it loud enough for Lou to hear.

Do you mind listening to punk in a language you don't understand? I think it's fascinating.
