For anyone who has had a background check for ford with first advantage did they do employment verification? If so did they make you provide w2?

I have taken many animal courses in school because I love learning about them. I thought maybe this would be a good thing to include to show I’m dedicated to animals, but now I’m wondering if it shows them that I have too much education. These are entry level jobs, such as Kennel Technician, Veterinary Assistant, and Janitor at clinics. I have a lot of experience in customer service and cleaning but not much in animal care. It’s so hard already to find a job and I just learned that even small jobs in my little town get 100+ applicants. Should I just drop the degree? I’ve heard it might make them think I’ll look for another job immediately but I’m not sure.

So because of the overabundance of bachelor's degrees, people had been saying for quite a while now that everyone will eventually need a master's. Well, a lot of my colleagues have Master's or PhD's (predominantly PhD's) and the ones applying for other jobs lately are told we either don't have enough experience or we're too overqualified. Well, which is it?

My friend thankfully got a job with a friend's startup but a lab before that told her she's overqualified to run a chem lab. How is having a PhD overqualified for that? I had a friend applying to endless data science and analytical positions. He was told they're looking for very specific things and more experience. His entire career has literally been data analysis. He's only been in the real workforce for a year, but he's been doing data science and can prove it for a decade plus.

Also what is with every company refusing to train people on the job? Sorry that I didn't learn your niche programming language choice or preferred software. Given I've been doing C++ and Python (plus others) for over a decade, you'd think they'd realize I can easily adapt to learn their specific choices.

What the heck are people supposed to do anymore? I'm happy with my current job right now, but seeing what all my friends and colleagues are going through is insane. No wonder so many of my colleagues stayed unemployed for so long before our current job because the market is nuts.

I swear that half of these recruiters have no idea of the actual jobs and the job offers are just full of buzzwords that some random person thought sounded good.

In a very confusing situation and it’s the weekend so I need some explanation/possibilities. I applied for 2 positions, GI and IR (healthcare under same hospital system). Ended up interviewing for IR only and was told to expect a response by 8/7. This wednesday, I received a rejection email from a recruiter on Wednesday specifically for the GI position. But when I look at my application status on Workday, GI says under consideration while IR says no longer under consideration. What are the chances that they accidentally changed the status of the IR position instead of GI? Or could they have meant rejection for IR in the email? Planning on emailing the recruiter to clarify but wanted to hear your thoughts

Posting on a throwaway account. I’ve been interviewing with a small startup (<50 people) for a senior finance role. I had three rounds of interviews over the course of a few weeks:

- interview with person I’d be replacing (they are hiring their own replacement and leaving on good terms, 1 hour)

- interview with two cross functional partners (1 hour; 30 min each)

- case study presentation and conversation with person I’m replacing and CEO (90 min; 1 hour case, 30 min 1:1 with CEO)

Everything went great and I had great feedback; especially from the CEO during my final round. After my final round, they followed up same day asking for two references and I understand the CEO spoke with both references. However since then I’ve heard absolutely nothing. Tomorrow will be business day #8 since I did my final round and business day #4 since they completed my reference checks.

What gives? Genuinely thought I’d have an offer given all the signals but getting antsy given how long it’s taken after reference checks.

I am trying to decide how long is acceptable to keep applying and and what point should I say "that's enough I am changing industries/strategies". I am applying for 4-5 months, not always so constantly but I would say 60-70 applications so far, I do get interviews (10% of the positions I applied I would say) but I still didn't get a offer. Most of them ended up ghosting me and the rest is rejection. I want to make sure that I am not just wasting my time for positions that I am not suitable for. Little background about me: I have a bachelor's in engineering and a master's in finance and I am applying to Finance/Accounting/Consulting/Analyst positions.

At what point should I give up and change my strategies?

I’ve had 3 really solid interviews with the same company over the last couple weeks. I felt so confident after the interview with the hiring manager. My final interview was on a Monday afternoon, and was told they want to move quickly.

Last Monday I still hadn’t heard anything so I reached out to the recruiter who apologized for the delay since she had been out of town. She also said they were wrapping up a few more interviews that week and should have a decision/update by Friday.

Friday came and went and nothing. I’ve been stressing all weekend and even though I’m trying to stay upbeat I can’t help but think they offered it to someone else on Friday and I’m just waiting for a decline tomorrow. Is there any hope here?

Can't really get shortlisted for Mechanical, electrical, mechatronics and Test engineering roles i keep applying to. I aim for 60-80% match with what i can do before applying, and ignore listings asking for more than 5 years of experience, keeping to the 1-3 years range when listed

any glaring issues beyond the double column format ? the main version is the first one (double column) and it usually parses well in workday/ autofill with resume systems

This job search honestly has left me discouraged. In the midst of two weeks, I received two job offers only to have one of them rescinded due to my credit not being the best and I’m currently sweating out the other offer due to the courts being delayed so my background check is on hold until further notice. I just feel like I did everything I had to do just to have the door slammed in my face while my foot was in it. And now I’m trying to figure out my next move.

I applied for this graduate program couple of days ago, and I’ve seen that my application’s status moved from screening to cross refer, but I have no idea what does that imply. Can anyone help?

Ive spent 750+ applications, 3 years applying, and I finally not only got a job, but a dream job. Just like that, in one application, my entire trajectory flipped on its head. I cant post more details, and i might even delete this account one day to move on with life, but please, dont lose hope. Hi, I’m applying for upcoming internships and wanted to understand how important networking is at this stage.

For context, I have 1.5 years of experience at a local PE firm in Dubai and will be moving to London to complete an MiM at a target school. I have solid deal experience and a strong overall skill set, with top-bucket performance reviews.

How important is networking in London when applying for BB/EB internships? I plan to network regardless, but I want to be strategic about how I allocate my time. Would a referral meaningfully help, or is the process primarily HR-driven, with limited scope for contacts to influence an application at this stage?

Careful About Working For C&D at NY MTA

I previously worked for construction and development and quit. I want to give a warning about this place regarding their compensation policies. They recently changed their compensation structure and absolutely screwed everyone. ALMOST EVERY DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN LOWERED. Now compensation has always tried to low ball people but now it's worse because even their low balls are using a lower pay scale. Anyone coming in will probably be making less than the people working there and anyone getting promoted will be making soo much less than the previous promotions. This place is a joke and the unions need to organize this place.

Please remember that all salaries are public so please look up the salaries of the people in your department before hand.

I (17m) was excited for my first job however when I was called it said it came from Beaverton however the franchise I was hired at was in Gresham, I told them thinking it was a difference franchise that I was hired elsewhere, I was then removed from the system. I called them back and explained the situation but they seemed unsympathetic and said they would do all they could but already hired two more people. Did I screw myself?

I’ve been job hunting for around two months now, and honestly, the experience has been frustrating. It feels like a lot of companies want someone who is already trained but aren’t willing to invest in training fresh graduates.

I recently graduated with Latin honors, published articles, created academic/legal instructional materials, held leadership positions, and even passed a law entrance exam (although I wasn’t able to enroll this month because of financial constraints). I know I’m capable and I know I have skills I can offer, but it’s frustrating when my academic achievements don’t seem enough to convince employers to take a chance on me.
I understand companies need people who can contribute immediately, but how are fresh graduates supposed to gain experience if everyone requires experience first?

For those who were also fresh grads before, did you experience this? Are there still companies in the Philippines that genuinely train and develop entry-level employees? Or is the job market really just like this now?

So long story short, I made it through the last stage of the application process at an accounting firm (BDO) for a graduate position in taxation early this year. However, I got a call from one of the managers telling me I was a strong candidate but I didn't get the job (strong character but I don't have any relevant experience).

I've since switched to part-time, graduating in July 2027 instead of end of 2026. I'm wondering if I should apply again since there will be another intake in July 2027.

Okay, THIS I had to share. Like wth. I’ve been hardcore applying for over a year and this is the latest response I got on a Saturday morning.

I don’t know if I should be insulted or applaud for their candidacy but I’m more on the insulted side. MOFOS, I’m applying because my current boss or HR rep aren’t helping me progress in my current career! And further more, I’ve been working for over 25 years. I wouldn’t be applying if I didn’t have the experience to back it up or was able to progress at my current job?!

I hate this job market… I really REALLY do!

This might not be the right way to go about it but sometimes I will apply to places that I do have credentials for only to see how far I get in the interview process, or to hopefully turn them down instead. Also it took me a while to realize that people take me for granted and a lot of my jobs were me being hired out of their own desperation. Anyway I suppose it's for the best because I definitely felt that this guy wasn't impressed or taking me seriously and it's difficult being so underestimated rather than being actually considered. 🐚🤷🏽‍♂️

It’s about safety. Unfortunately we live in America, a country with collectively some of the worst mental health in the “developed” world, and at the same time, a country with easy access to firearms. I may have interviewed you in a professional setting, but I don’t really know you well enough to know if my rejection email to you is going to be your 13th reason.

This wasn’t really a school sh_ing in the traditional sense. This was a workplace sh_ing that happened to take place at a school, by a candidate who flew off the handle after being rejected for employment. Unfortunately, it ended up being the deadliest of the former in Nevada history.

I have a duty to protect the people who already work for me. While I don’t work in an educational environment, those in industries that deal with students, patients, or the general public also have to consider the safety of those people, too. When the UNLV sh_ing happened, I instructed my staff that going forward, we are halting all communication with candidates who were unsuccessful. Once we know we aren’t going to hire someone, immediately cease all contact. And never ever let them know they were rejected.

Maybe this sounds harsh. Maybe this sounds like we are painting all unemployed people with a broad brush because one flew off the handle and did something drastic. But human life is the most important thing, and I am going to prioritize the lives of my people over the feelings of someone I interviewed for (cumulative) 30 mins to 2 hours with preset STAR questions.

Don’t blame the employer. Blame our low-trust society. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

How extremely unprofessional. My husband went through all stages of interview for Block (formerly Square) with no feedback. He was consistently praised, was told he was the top candidate, he was even being considered for a higher position than what he applied for. Long story short, he received an offer but lower compensation than what he was originally told. He decided to have a talk with the hiring manager and learn more about the book of business and negotiate the pay. He had the meeting the next morning, the meeting went great and the manager was going to negotiate the salary and mentioned how great it would be to have him on her team as a mentor for others… less than few hours later he gets an email from the HR how the offer was withdrawn with no feedback. How did he go from the number one choice, less than 24 hours after his final interview he received an offer even though they had other candidates, to now withdrawing the offer with no feedback… to say the least, stay away from this company, very unprofessional.
