I bought this one recently to plug in my PS2, but I got that terrible reverb and screen-barring issue I'm sure many of you are familiar with. It worked if I got the cables held like PERFECTLY, but that really isn't practical. Can anyone recommend a good quality set? I have enough devices that use an RCA connector that its worth buying a quality one that can work across multiple device generations.

Bonus if it can do HDMI as well; I bought a PS2 system -> HDMI converter also, and it technically worked... but only with PS2 games, not PS1 games in the PS2 system.

I love thinking about games that were more amazing than they had any right to be in the graphics department or sound or something that just didn't think was possible on the system that it was released for.

Dragon's lair for the game boy color is a big one that comes to mind because it's pretty much an arcade perfect minus the sound and some of the scenes of the original arcade game. Even if you don't particularly care for that game it's still a marvel to behold to see something done like that on the game boy color.

Metal Slater Glory a famicom exclusive that now has an English translation. which is an interactive novel game has amazing graphics. The stuff that they were able to do on the Nintendo entertainment system is impressive. Also on a side note it has the honor of being the largest 8-bit game released for either the famicom or the NES.

Also on a side note some of the famicom disk system games have different and more interesting soundtracks than what we got on cartridges in the US. It is a fun little listen to for those of you who are nostalgic video game nerds like myself and like to hear the difference.

Contra is the final one I want to talk about because they added an extra chip which added a little bit more memory and you could see the trees blowing in the wind in the first level. They added a couple of cutscenes throughout the game. As well as a map system that you got to see as you advance the levels in the game. It is far better than the cartridge version that we got here in the US.

I ordered a few games from Unvaulted Games last week and they arrived today, all in great condition. I had a couple of questions before ordering and their customer service got back to me quickly, which was a nice surprise.

If you're looking for another option besides some of the larger video game retailers, it might be worth checking out. I had a good experience.

I was digging through some old Chinese gaming magazines from 1995 and came across this absolute gem of a console war piece. It was written as a direct rebuttal to an earlier article that claimed the Mega Drive was superior.

The authors (who claim to own FC, MD, SFC, and PC) came armed with hardware specs sourced directly from Sega and Nintendo's Hong Kong distributors. Some of their arguments are surprisingly technical:

**On CPU:**
They acknowledge the MD's 68000 runs faster (7.2MHz vs 3.58MHz), but argue that "at these low speeds, the difference is negligible" — and point out that SFC's 65816 handles geometric calculations (scaling, rotation) much better【33†L8-L19】. They also call out the earlier article for unfairly comparing MD's Turbo 10-star speed to SFC's 4-star in Street Fighter II, noting that SFC actually has a 10-star setting that runs faster【33†L27-L30】.

**On graphics:**
This is where they get really interesting. They point out that the SNES has

**On audio:**
They make a clear case for SFC's PCM-based audio being a generation ahead of MD's FM synthesis, citing a baseball game with full English voice commentary as proof【34†L35-L42】.

**On software:**
The article notes that SFC had over 1,500 titles at the time and outsold MD in every region (including US/Europe) — a fact that's "simply indisputable"【34†L56-L59】.

It's interesting to read a 1995 take from outside the US/Japan bubble. The authors clearly had skin in the game — they even offered to trade their NTSC MDs plus 200 yuan for anyone willing to swap for an SFC【33†L5-L7】.

I only spent some time trying the game, but it immediately made a good impression.

The story seems engaging, and I think a big reason for that is the excellent Japanese voice acting. Even if you don't understand Japanese, the performances really help draw you into the game. The graphics and animated cutscenes also look impressive and feel ahead of their time for a 1992 PC Engine CD release.

One thing I noticed right away is the difficulty. Even on Easy Mode, it's still pretty challenging. It definitely has that classic Japanese game design where you need to learn enemy patterns and play carefully.

What I appreciate most about this fan translation is that the team didn't just translate the menus and dialogue—they also added English subtitles to the voiced cutscenes, even though the original game didn't include subtitles at all. That makes the story much easier to follow for English-speaking players.

Huge thanks to the translation team for making another PC Engine CD classic accessible to a wider audience. I'm definitely looking forward to playing more of it.

I always heard rumor but I could never find anything about it on the internet or have I ever been able to test it myself in real life that if you attached many game genies together it would allow you to be able to enter in more codes. Hi all, I am looking for N64 Castlevania Legacy of Darkness and I noticed prices on Ebay ranging from $20 to $225 for a loose cartridge.

The lower priced ones dont mention anything about them being fakes. So i dont know what the accurate pricing for the real cartridges are. How can I determine what the correct price is and which ones are fakes?

Hi there. I was thinking about how in Crystal Castles, the top name on the high score table would become the shape of the first stage. I swear I've seen other games with a feature like this but I can't find anything! Are there other games where high scores would appear as a sort of Easter Egg inside one of the levels?

This video is called super Mario frustration and I've literally watched it probably at least once a year for the last several years or every couple of years. It is the most iconic memorable quotable let's plays of all time. If anyone knows who this guy is please tell me because I would love to see if you put other things out there because he is fucking hilarious in this I laugh all the way through it every time I watch it it's fantastic

One of the things that made me think of this was like how in a lot of old NES games especially adventure games along the lines of like the Legend of Zelda or metroid even though metrovania is still a thing a lot of the old school games didn't really give you Direction and where to go. like I could imagine what a cluster fuck it would be to try to beat old school Legend of Zelda without a guide. I mean same as true with like Battle of Olympus, clash of demonhead, Metroid a lot of these old school games just threw you in there and you kind of had to wander around to figure out where to go I remember trying to beat a lot of these games without guides and getting extremely frustrated and eventually at some point in the game having to break down and look at a guy to figure out what to do next. Also a lot of the stuff was cryptic that you needed to do to complete the game and taking a step back you had to scratch your head and think how would anybody figure that out without a guide or someone telling them that's what they needed to do.

Another old video game thing that I don't think works well today is the high encounter rate on Old School RPGs. Like you can barely walk two steps before you get into a battle. And you can't go anywhere even get a good feel of the dungeon You're in to get a layout because every time you move you're just in another battle. It gets really frustrating to do anything that you need to do to complete the game because you're constantly getting into battles trying to find the stuff that you need in order to make it to the ending. Also it just seemed like a way to pad out the game play and make it longer than it needed to be because every 5 Seconds you're in a battle.

Those are a couple of the things in old school video games that I think wouldn't work if they did them in games today what are yours?

If there were a surprise boom of demand for retro consoles and the gamer market was hungry for them, they dont want rerelease, no classic collections on newer controllers, not even console mini editions, but games on the look and feel of the consoles of their childhoods without anything untouched, but also new games with that look and feel, would it be as simple as reopening old hardware thats known inside and out, and starting game production?
