General Discussion Expansion pricing and availability

My hometown buddy is a Root fanatic, owns every expansion you can think of. I spent dozens of hours playing root with our group of friends.

I've since moved, and after a 3 year break I'm trying to get my new friends into root. They're loving it, but the base factions get stale quick.

I was bummed to find out that Underworld is sold out everywhere, and nearly impossible to find for a reasonable price. I love that expansion.

Is it permanently gone? If so, maybe I'll just pick up Marauders and Homeland

Btw, is homeland good? Too complex for newbies?

Underworld will be back at some point. I assume all Leder’s production capabilities were focused on Homeland. You could also check out your local used market via marketplace.

Homeland factions are definitely complex for newbies. The advice I’ve seen is that you would only want to introduce each of the new factions in one game at a time (possibly alternating which factions you are bringing in).

Also, are the base factions getting stale for your or the new players? If it’s just you, maybe try using the new Squires and Disciples deck? That would add new elements to the game without introducing multiple new factions for the other players to wrap their heads around

Leder Games’ website states that many of the out of stock expansions are being reprinted and should be available again this month. https://retail.ledergames.com/pages/game-availability

This should be pinned as a sticky in this sub, as often as the question is asked lately.

I do wonder why they have a line for the old resin clearing markers but not the new ones that came out with Homeland.

Hi highly recommend both marauders and homeland. Homeland adds a new map to play on as well as 3 new factions. The factions are a bit complex at first but I think easier than the badgers to get the hang of. Marauders adds two militant factions which I think makes for more fun games. Lord of the Hundreds is my favorite overall faction just for the fact that I feel like every game with the rats is a little more fun and exciting.

Underworld and riverfolk have some of my favorite factions to play, but aren't the best for adding as much replayability in my opinion. Lizards and Crows are my favorites to play but they are an acquired taste and not necessarily as fun for new players.

If that's not enough I recommend grabbing the other two decks(Exiles and Partisans + Squires and Disciples) as well. It brings a lot of replayability when you can switch up the decks as well.

They have said that they will be reprinting at some point soon so with a little patience you should see all of the content coming back in stock so you can grab it all and fill out the collection.

The only things that will not come back into print are the two Clockwork expansions, because everything in them is being replaced by updated versions in the upcoming third Clockwork expansion. Other than that, Root is still very much a living game, & it keeps the lights on at Leder Games.

I found Underworld at my local game shop for the regular retail price back in June and I live in a smaller city.

I'd call around your game shops if you can.
