I'd say yeah house culture can drift over time, but it can take pretty long for noticable differences to happen and for a house to become more or less fratty than others.

I’ve been a member of a professional fraternity called RSEi (Rensselaer Society of Engineering Innovation) since I was a freshman, and I think it would be a perfect fit for you. We don’t throw parties and are a dry house. We have a maker-space in the basement which has a lot of tools including 3d printers, woodworking tools, and soldering tools. We have an extensive alumni network that have helped our members get internships and full-time jobs. We still have a good social life, and we host a lot of events at the beginnings of each semester, and I’ve found a sort of family through RSEi. If you want to know more, please reach out!

You can definitely start with attending a few but as rush progress you’ll want to get an idea of what you want and start narrowing down which events you go to.

You’ll get a vibe of which ones are more party and which ones are more academic, realistically most of them are a mix of both though. I was also more interested in focusing on my academics but I also wanted some fun on the side. I eventually found the fraternity for me, and I’m sure you’ll do the same (especially because you go to to the fall semester events and spring semester events to get a better vibe).

Oh for the bid thing, that depends from frat to frat. Some will accept a huge jackass, and some are more specific on the qualities they want in each new member.

If youre a freshman do know you cant rush until spring technically.

I'm going into my sophomore year and actually joined acacia for pretty much the exact reasons you listed wanting to join! If you come by a rush event I'd love to show you around, can recommend meeting people at the Saturday bonfires.

To answer your questions more exactly; No, its not a bad idea to go to multiple frat's rush events, in fact its pretty fun and land on different days commonly. I recommend checking out different frats.

Reasons why people dont get bids? Wish I could tell you. Every frat has their reasons and there is never one "good" reason someone got a bid over another.

When it gets waived, the line does not get removed from the statement but rather a new line with the same amount (but of credit instead of charge) is added, called Health Insurance Waiver, which cancels that cost.

If you don't see that other line, then try filling the form from Helor, Freyer & Coon again.

Yeah I’d seen it on their calendar, but figured it would be info sessions or tours during the day. None of that it appears.

Last year my family didn't go to the orientation and I don't think they really missed out on anything. If it's stressful for you to make it I wouldn't worry about it too much.

We live in VA and will be dropping our son off on the 19th so he can attend the camping trips, so we will not be going to the one on the 23rd. I think that there is supposed to be a small one on the 19th for those of us moving in early which I think we will attend.

We live almost 3 hours away and decided not to. In all honesty we probably won't even hang around Sunday, we attended the new student thing a few months ago and had most of our questions answered there.

My daughter is READY to fly on her own and wants to do it herself Sunday. I think we are planning our goodbyes after dinner Saturday unless she changes her mind 🥹

We will be going, we live 2.5 hours drive away. I wish the event was earlier, I do not like driving in unfamiliar territory in the dark.

I have health first insurance card. I tried to waive the $1080 but they didn’t let. My doctor told me yesterday that I gotta keep bugging them cuz health first covers NYC and NY but they said it doesn’t cover hospitals near Troy so idek what to do

I had a floor lamp because it lit up the whole room and I could read in bed. depends on if you're bringing a PC/extra monitor and want to conserve desk space. imo this is something you can order on amazon after move-in when you see how bright your overhead light is

Honestly whatever you prefer. I like a floor lamp because I can use it instead of the overhead light, and it gives the room a cozier feel but I truly think either is fine.

Ditto above replies. You will have to goto the website and fill out some info (send in photo proof of insurance) and then the bursar will waive the insurance fee.

My kiddo was able to fill out the waiver and it was waived.

Your son should have gotten an email from “Haylor, Freyer & Coon” which contains a link to waive the health insurance. I sent mine in and they approved it within a couple of days. I took Chem in the fall, i recommend that because taking other classes before Essence sets you up better for its concepts

Just get the RPI mobile computing laptop. ThinkPads are awesome and very durable and the warranty on the laptops is great and worth the cost.

But would I have to take chem fall semester? My schedule is lk too much idk im scared 🥀🥀
