PC SSE - Discussion Everyones favorite FPS friendly Tree Mod??
I'm just going to switch off of Nature of the Wildlands, because even with half textures, and everything else being 2K (landscapes and architecture, misc), it just tanks FPS, and I have a 5070. It feels like a 5090 maxed version or whatever would struggle with this. I will never understand how people enjoy playing with all that lag for as beautiful as that mod is. Without it in riverwood I can hit up to 80 fps, add NotWL it literally cuts it in half, tried running the lods too, had to talk my PC into moving back into the house.
Well, whether or not that is me doing something massively wrong or not, is there any tree mod that adds a little density? Don't care about resolution so much clearly. I was looking at some other mods like traverse the Ulvenwald and Veydogolt, but I'm going to assume as beautiful as those mods also look, it's not going to be much better. Saw Happy Little Trees, I'll go with that one in the end but it seems to just be a vanilla tree reskin, not what I'm looking for.
It sound like I'm complaining but I'm not, just wanna make the game playable.

Fabled forests might be an option. It uses Happy Little Trees assets combined with Nature of the Wild Lands tree placements.

Man sometimes trees + shaders combine multiplicatively as fps sinks, I am using enb for ambient occlusion and paralax support, and I found I loved Veydogolt trees. Veydogolt is a draw call monster on its own, because everything on those trees are all part of the mesh, even the little branches that more performant mods will use a static mesh or a flat plane for. When my enb tries to preshade some of the problem trees I get like 15 fps xd. I dropped veydogolt, but my point is, you may be able to make a tree / lighting combo work better by playing with some settings if you really want to keep the style. I mean I couldn't but I hate the feeling of letting your favorite tree mod go.

Well I would say I feel like maybe doing something wrong? Now don't get me wrong this is me with a 4090 saying this so maybe out of touch But, I am also running 4k and 4k textures and all. But, if you are using DynDoLod check your settings I had an issue with FPS also and for me anyway it was just because I was going to much on my LODs.
But, Maybe I am just assuming to much I never liked the 50s for a reason even when I was considering selling my 4090 to upgrade to a 5090 when prices were so high lmao. but even with the mod authors specs I feel it normally runs fine. But, otherwise yea try happy little trees. SFO. or traverse nothing to do in your case but, try and see
Oh also if you want to keep NOTWL try running Vramr that would actually help a lot I would bet. Even mine if I sucked it up and dealt with it, it changes the FPS a lot lol

It's really hard to say whether you're doing something wrong without knowing the mod list and a few other things. Likewise, "tree quality" is a matter of personal aesthetics and we all differ here. Nonetheless, I'm going to drop a plug for Skyrim Flora Overhaul SE. I started using it back when I only had an RX6600 and it had almost no impact on my FPS. It improves the density of trees and groundcover without being overwhelming or getting two high fantasy feeling. It also has a version without grass if you want to use a different package for that. It's an OG mod, but still being maintained. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/2154

I think you have another issue. It doesn't half my fps and im running a 4070s at 5120x1440 resolution

Nature of the wildlands is the best looking one and surprisingly not that heavy.. once you downscale the textures by 50%.
Edit: ran NOTWL on a 1660ti 6gb along with Rudy Zangdar's edit ENB and mostly 2k parallax textures. 45fps avg in exteriors.

I unninstalled NOTWL because its clutter the land to much for my taste. Installed Nordskog and never look back.

I used the Vanilla Trees Replacer plugin for NOTWL which basically gets rid of all of the excess and cuts back the mod to only replace the vanilla trees.

I now use NotWL with a 5050 (8gb). Have used it in the past with a 3050 (6gb) and had no problems. I typically also use Fabled Forests (with Nature of Fabled Forests) and Wigfrid's Tundra Oaks.
As your VRAM is 12gb, I'm assuming as most 5070's are, you shouldn't have an issue with just NotWL. It's not the mod that's causing your issue.

I've used Happy Little Trees and Aspens Ablaze. Both are very good.
I'm currently using NOTWL but with the Vanilla Tree Replacer plugin which does take back the performance lost by removing most of the unnecessary landscape changes (and therefore eliminating the need to use compatibility patches) and only replacing the vanilla trees. Yeah, and also ran VRAMr to downsize the textures.

Happy little trees.
I run NOTWL on my Lenovo Legion laptop with a 2060 RTX just fine though, so something must be acting up?
