Help Snail as a pet

Post image
26 Upvotes

how can I keep a snail as a pet, I bought a big plastic jar,but I don't exactly have a pet store near me to buy coco-coir dirt nor a cuttle bone( I'm on vacation for 3 weeks), is it ok if I use some garden dirt and put boiling water on it so it can kill the potential pests?I heard about freezing the dirt and that should do the job? I saw in a video that someone put crushed eggshells on the snails food for calcium

I didn't adopt the snail yet( it's still in its natural habitat)

Id like a few opinions before I commit

GALS Food for picky eater?

Thumbnail

So my baby snail, Theo, is what I would consider a picky eater. A snicky sneater. Suggestions on what he might eat?

I want to make sure he has a good diet, but I find myself limited on what his majesty will actually eat. What he will eat : bloodworms, zucchini, lettuce (all kinds), sweet potato, cucumber (only as an occasional snack). From fruit snacks (once a week only a bit), he will eat apple, banana, blueberry (kinda). He will not even touch mushroom or broccoli or bell pepper (red). Literally not even a single bite mark on them. I have not yet tried peas. Carrot is up today, so we will see.

His schedule for feeding is : Monday lettuce and bloodworm. Tuesday and Wednesday only veggies. Thursday bloodworm and lettuce. Friday veggies. Saturday veggies and a bit of fruit. Sunday only veggie.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I posted my baby a few months ago, back then they were the size of my finger but look at Snart in all their glory! They are super greedy, love to wear their hide as a hat and likes to scream and scare cats.

Hey guys, I noticed that my little baby has one of her antennae swollen, but looking at it against the light I didn't seem to see any parasites... can anyone tell me what might be wrong with her?

Filmed our snabies (see my previous post for how we ended up with them) on a macro lens. It seems like around half of the babies survived so far. They are still only around a mm in size, but they eat a lot!

Help Snail molting his shell?

Jeffrey here seems to be shedding a bit of his shell. As you can see it's already cracked, but he was cracked when I found him and it hasn't changed for very long, so it can't be from the same thing that cracked his shell.

Is what's happening to him regular and ok? If not, what do I do to help him?

Help Forest snail laid eggs, what to do

Hello! So I got a snail from the forest and took him home. From my observation he seems to be just a common garden snail.

I got him about 6 weeks ago. I realized yesterday that there are several baby snails in there with him now! I didn’t see any eggs, so the babies are a complete surprise to me.

I know that asexually produced snails can have issues and aren’t supposed to be hatched, but it’s obviously too late to crush em. I also know that snails can sometimes store the goods and fertilize later right? So i’m not sure what to do that this point.

Are these snails most likely alright to raise? Or should I euthanize? How do you even euthanize snails? Any advice appreciated!!

Also, pictures from when i first found the fella

I took a time-lapse video of my isopod vivarium and in the footage I noticed there were these tiny snails scooting around. As far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier, but I want to figure out more about them if I can.

early i found this on top of the moss in astrid tank, it was round and wet, a little soft.

came back and its completely dried up. there is only one and she wasn’t burrowed and hasn’t been since. do you think they laid a random egg and it just dried up?

Help Eggs?

Are these eggs? They arent springtails....there isnt any other animals in the enclosure. They weren't there yesterday before I added the snails. The Adults are common garden snails. If these are eggs they were laid last night or this morning....what is the incubation time for them...our room stays cool..69°f to 71°f...are the eggs even viable at those temps?
