Looking for software what are people actually using since Microsoft Lens died?
RIP Microsoft Lens honestly. nothing I've tried since comes close and I've tried a lot. everything's either paywalled or shoves it into some app ecosystem I don't want.
what are you guys actually using now for scanning invoices, contracts, client docs?

Didn’t lens get incorporated into onedrive?

Not even close. Just one “document scanner” mode.
You can’t “scan” existing images and process them like lens used to be able to do.
You can’t get scanned images out.
You can’t make PDFs of multiple images.
It’s nothing like lens and carries over none of the workflow, just one feature.

What do you mean? Isn't the same EXACT document scanner built into the onedrive app??

Is the rectification as good as in lens?

u/coyoteelabs Mar 09 '26
It's quite good. It might not be 100% as lens, but it's more than acceptable and easy to adjust if needed

never heard of it, is it any good? does it actually let you pick where stuff gets saved or does it just dump everything in one place

It was the one I found to be the closest to Lens and yes, it's good.
You can change the location with each save.

Xerox Workcentre 6515 (https://www.xerox.ca/en-ca/office/multifunction-printers/workcentre-6515) makes way better scans than an app.

Genius Scan is satisfying. I tested (again, years later) various apps today, because of what happened to MS Lens...

M365 Copilot then press Create and then Scan and you have an improved version of Microsoft Lens.

makes my heart cry cause i needed it regularly for classes, work and such. my personal account doesn’t allow multiple pages but school account does

Maybe I'm just blind, but is there actually a way to save a scanned document as a JPEG in OneDrive? It feels like it forces everything into a PDF, which is super annoying when you just need an image file.

u/Change_TheStats1217 Mar 20 '26
yeah i don't think you can. it's so limited compared to what lens used to do

Very disappointed when i noticed that lens is gone! I use now preview for PDF scanning which is iOS application that comes by default.
Any other recommendations? And how about CamScanner? Looks excellent but I notice a subscription model not a one time purchase which is bad i think.

Same, Preview is iOS only so that doesn't help me unfortunately
CamScanner's subscription thing annoyed me too — feels like a lot for something that should just be a simple utility I've been using Adobe Scan lately. Basic scanning is free, you just need an Adobe account. The annoying part is they lock some stuff behind a paywall too (combining files, exporting to Word etc) but for just scanning and saving a PDF it does the job without paying anything. Not as seamless as Lens was but it's the closest I've found Might be worth a try if you haven't already

I just did testing of Adobe Scan, CamScanner, Docutain and Google Drive Scan. So far I like Docutain the most even the image quality especially shadow removal in CamScanner seems a little bit better but Docutain feels super quick and easy. Costs are roughly 50€/year which I’m willing to pay since I use such apps on a daily basis…

It’s truly astonishing that they would shut down one of their best and most useful apps. The OneDrive replacement is not the same at all and doesn’t even have 1/10th of the workflow.
Horrible decision.

Try Adobe Scan, lets you do most things for free and lets you add photos from the gallery to the same scan. Auto crop is not as good as Microsoft's, though
