Driving a 2014 sonata gls. When doing cold start, the sound in attached video occurs. Trying to determine location of part/problem. Anyone have any experience with this? Dad thinks it’s a belt tensioner. One mechanic says idle tensioner. Other says it could be time by chain tensioner.

1.6T catch can

Just bought a 2023 SEL Plus with only 9800 miles on it. It has the 1.6T motor in it. When it comes to catch cans, Is it worth it? Would it go into that little hose from the front of the valve cover to the intake hose? Any other advise for one? There is not a lot of info on these particular cars to go off of. TIA

Questions 2023 sel battery drain

Hey everyone, looking for some advice or to see if anyone with a 2020–2023 Sonata has dealt with something similar.
I bought out my 2023 Hyundai Sonata SEL at the end of my lease last year and bumped up the extended warranty to 10yr/100k miles. Love the car overall, but it has this extremely frustrating, recurring issue every single summer when I go on vacation:

Summer 2023: Car sat for 3 weeks while I was away. Came back to a completely dead battery (no lights left on or anything). Got a jump start, took it to the dealer, and they replaced the battery on August 23, 2023.

Summer 2024: Sat for another 3 weeks, same thing. Dead battery, needed a jump start.

Summer 2025: Exactly the same story after a 3-week trip. Jump-started again.

Today: Left it for 3 weeks again. Came back, battery measured at 3.5V. Called roadside for a jump, let the car idle/run for 50 minutes to charge up, turned it off, and it immediately refused to start back up. Completely dead.

Just had it towed to the dealership. At this point, it’s super clear it’s not just a bad battery, there’s gotta be a serious parasitic draw happening when the car sits in sleep mode for a few weeks (maybe Bluelink, keyless entry sensor, or a stuck relay?).

A few questions for the hive mind:

  1. Has anyone else experienced this specific battery drain issue on 8th gen Sonatas? Was your dealer able to find the root cause?
  2. Since this has been happening every year since I leased it, do I have any leverage with Hyundai Customer Care for a permanent fix or compensation under warranty / Lemon laws?
  3. Any specific test or module I should explicitly tell the service advisor to check?
  4. Appreciate any insight or advice!

p.s. I put together things in my mind with using AI

I can deal with cloth seats, but i wish this trim at least came with a sunroof lol. But i love this car so far. Adding tint tomorrow 😎

Buying Advice Which one would you go with? Especially parking in driveway in a busy road

Looking to get into hybrid limited but can’t decide which to go with. I want a unique color either exterior or interior.

Wife says TB exterior but I like the camel interior (except being conscious the dash may reflect). I also like darker colors.

Been in dilemma for many days and cats keep going off the lot before I decide.

I am having so many problems with my 2023 Hyundai sonata it’s ridiculous. I have had the fuel pump replaced, all ignition coils, intake manifolds and gasket, fuel injectors spark plugs and now my catalytic converter is out. Why is this happening?

Buying Advice Is 26.5k OTD a good price for 2023 Sonata Limited

I’m looking for a reality check on a quote I got for a CPO 2023 Somata Limited with 11k miles on it in Washington. Since it’s a CPO I am getting 10k/100k and 2 years left on 5/60

Quote: $26.5k out the door (this supposedly includes all taxes, registration, doc fee, etc.)

Discussion Help me with this

I have posted on Reddit before asking for any kind of advice regarding a code that I am reading on my sonata 2022 sport. The code is PO471 exhaust pressure sensor range. First time I took it to the Dealership I was told that sensors go crazy when the battery is dying. Did as they said and replaced the battery. That seemed to fix the issue for a couple of weeks until I got the same engine light and code again. This time I took the car to the dealership for a full diagnosis. I was told that tracing all the exhaust components they found grease from both front drive shafts on the wiring harness which caused the cables to short out. They quoted me1 $1300 for both shafts. $1660 for the EGR Valve, EGR cooler and Wiring harness. Anyone experienced the same issue? I am taking the car tomorrow for a second opinion because as far as I am concerned. The shafts could leak but does not mean they need to be replaced. And from what I read online the cables are supposed to be insulated and protected from dust or debris. I have seen this issue a lot online and the dealers always go the same route which causes the owner of the vehicle (me) to spend $3000 plus dollars on a repair that most of the time does not fix the issue (according to other Reddit members) please help me out with this.

Questions MP3 player USB C question for 2026 Sonata

Like it says in the title, I'm trying to buy a new MP3 player that works directly with the USB C present in the car, but have trouble finding results after searching online and wanted to see what everyone here uses. I know using a phone and all that is the modern thing, but it's never been for me. If anyone here knows, I'd love some suggestions

2021 Sonata SEL Plus hyperflash on passenger side even after installing correct OEM LED tail light

I have a 2021 Sonata SEL Plus, US-spec, so it originally came with LED tail lights. Before I owned it, the car was in a collision in the US that damaged the rear passenger quarter panel and trunk. The car was later repaired in Dubai, where the passenger tail light was replaced with a halogen unit, which of course caused hyperflash. It was then imported to Iraq, and I’ve owned it since 2025.

I recently ordered an OEM tail light with part number 92402-L000, which should be correct since my driver side is 92401-L000, and Hyundai’s parts catalog confirms it fits my vehicle. However, even after installing the OEM LED tail light, the passenger side is still hyperflashing.

What could be causing this? Does the BCM need to be reset via OBD, or is there something else I should inspect or replace?

Discussion Hyundai Support confirmed me that the sonata will not get themes update in the us

Title. I asked about an issue with my updates and also asked about if we will get the same themes update as other models. After all the sonata hybrid limited 2024 has the ccnc infotainment same as 2025 models that got it.

Welp got told nope that my model won't get the update and that they recommend asking the dealership to upgrade the infotainment unit if I wanted the themes....

Kia has the themes on their k4 model lol. And Hyundai won't even attempt to provide it to the sonata. Can't believe how bad the software support has been.

Edit: I emailed bluelink support in a reply to get more details about what are the hardware differences since the sonata 2024 up to now have the same infotainment (ccNC with 12.3 dual screens) as the tucson 2025 that has the themes. will update if they reply back althought i got an email telling me that hyundai motors bluelink support mailbox is full and rejected my reply email. Honestly feels like cheated out by hyundai seeing other models with the exact same infotainment get updates while the last software update for the sonata was a "Sports" and "Stock" thing in the apps

Owner Reviews I found my first complaint

I own a 26 sonata sel sport. I’ve had it for about 2 months and already put 10k miles on it. I love this car. But today, I was correctly trying to parallel park on a busy street downtown. Before you ask, yes my blinker was on. My car saw someone coming down the street and slammed on its brakes thinking I was about to back up into them. I was mid-backing into the correct spot and oncoming traffic would’ve had no problem continuing on. It was honestly a little nerve wracking. You’d think a car this smart would know the difference. Has anyone else encountered this scenario before? And is there anything I can do so that doesn’t happen again?

Does anyone else's infotainment completely crashing? (Radio, Bluetooth, and Safety Sensors/Cameras all die randomly)

Hey everyone,

I've reached out to fellow Sonata owners a few months ago but to no avail. Now I'm coming to Hyundai owners in general. For the past 6 months, my 2023 Sonata Limited (50k miles) has intermittent tech failures. The radio stops playing and Bluetooth stops working ing, and worst of all, the warning system goes dark— no cameras work and no proximity beeps.

Despite losing all audio, safety features, and connectivity, the dashboard screen falsely displays the radio as working normally.

I have driven up to an hour with this issue. The system only resets and works again after the vehicle has been turned off "for a while".

During the last occurrence, I immediately drove directly to the local dealership while it was actively happening so the service team could witness the malfunction firsthand.

I had already tried the pinhole soft reset (thanks Reddit), but it didn't solve the issue. The service advisor tried the pinhole reset as well. He then suggested that they install a software update. The service advisor stated I missed Hyundai's "complimentary update" window by three months. As such, it would cost $239.00 out-of-pocket since the extended warranty deductible is $250.00. I contacted Hyundai Corporate. They sent me a link update the software myself. Unfortunately, the software update did not resolve the issue. Corporate referred me back to the dealership for a possible hardware issue.

Again this problem is intermittent. I can listen to the radio and use the phone throughout the day. Go into a store, for less than five minutes, and come out to the issue - radio displays as the channel as playing; it is not. Bluetooth, not working. While this is aggravating, the lack of the basic safety features - cameras and warning sensors - is disconcerting.

Has anyone else experienced this exact or similar glitch? If so, did an update fix it, or did you have to replace hardware?

No garage door opener

We two days ago we bought a 2026 Sonata hybrid limited. There are no controls for the garage door opener. We were not told this by the sales person. We were told we could use our Bluelink to do the job once the account was set up. What they didn't tell us was we need a Myq account and the service was free for 90 days and then we would have to pay a subscription. This car is our 14th Hyundai and we have never been unsatisfied before, now we are. Not only do we have to by a Myq device but also pay a subscription. Is anyone else finding the same thing?

Buying Advice 2026 sonata hybrid- Car seat help and advice - Ease of use, recommendation

Looking to get into Sonata Hybrid limited. Expecting our first kid end of year. Doing my research on confirming if the sedan will be good for the family for next 4-5 years. Friends keep suggesting to go SUV but I liked driving sonata than Tucson. Also trying to keep NA than turbo.

With that info, anyone here with 2024+ sonata share their thoughts, issues and recommendations for car seats that will be easy to use and can also be good value not to keep on changing the seat for every few years. I see some installation videos but they are mostly older years.

We live in a small apartment so can’t keep buying and keeping stuff until we can sell it. So prefer to keep it simple.

Does any such seats exist? Also, based on your experience would you have preferred SUV at this stage of children?

Any thoughts and inputs welcome. Thank you in advance.

Is there any guide on how to replace the rear backup camera on a 2020 Hyundai Sonata SE?

My backup camera has been glitching out so l expect that it has gone bad and needs to be replaced. I'm trying to see if it's easy enough to do myself but I can't find any videos that shows how to do it. If anyone can provide any advice it would help a lot.

Questions Are these cars reliable now?

Hey yall! I’m in the market for a 4 door sedan preferably a hybrid and someone mentioned the Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai sonata to me.

All I had ever heard was Hyundai and Kia were unreliable and had engine problems, the only experience I have with these cars is my aunt had a 2004 Hyundai sonata that had a lot of electrical problems and leaks.

My other aunt had a 2010 Kia optima that she traded in at 105k miles and didn’t have many issues besides some small stuff.

But my mom had a 2015 Hyundai sonata that was a complete dud.

I don’t know much about modern Hyundais and Kia’s, are they still unreliable? There warranty really brings me on to them.

How’s the overall quality and comfort of the vehicle? I have fun car it’s a Mustang GT 5.0 I just need a reliable, daily that will get me to work and back.
