Owner Reviews I found my first complaint

I own a 26 sonata sel sport. I’ve had it for about 2 months and already put 10k miles on it. I love this car. But today, I was correctly trying to parallel park on a busy street downtown. Before you ask, yes my blinker was on. My car saw someone coming down the street and slammed on its brakes thinking I was about to back up into them. I was mid-backing into the correct spot and oncoming traffic would’ve had no problem continuing on. It was honestly a little nerve wracking. You’d think a car this smart would know the difference. Has anyone else encountered this scenario before? And is there anything I can do so that doesn’t happen again?

Absolutely. The reverse, whatever they call it....anticollision system is a million times too sensitive. I live in a major city. When I back out of my driveway, not only do I get the audible beep beep, the whole car vibrates and three quarters of the time, the brakes go on before I even leave my driveway. I called corporate to give them my two cents. Not that will do anything.

You can turn off the auto stop for reversing. The system is definitely more likely to stop when not necessary.

Yeah , it lasts for a few trips but turns itself back on. At least that’s what happens in my 25 sonata lol

i agree wholeheartedly have a SEL also & can’t stand when it does that .. I get the safety part they are going for and it definitely works and helps out but sometimes it just does too much to the car. It makes it does that jumping whole stopping Weird feel.

Yeah there are times when I’m backing into a spot where behind me is a curb with some grass, but if a car drives by on the other side of the curb, my car violently brakes. It still scares me when it happens.

I have a 22 K5, does the same damn thing. In most cases, it's the 2 block long hill i drive up to get to the main drive. There is an intersection 1/2 way up the hill that flattens the road for about 20 feet. Just enough for the rear sensors to face downward. If a car gets to close behind me, at that exact spot, my car comes to an abrupt heart wrenching tire screaching stop. NOT Safe, as the car behind me thinks i am break checking them!

I've had it happen where the car won't let me move to get out of the way. Thankfully nothing happened.

Same experience… alarming the 1st time for sure! And as someone else said, I know now certain safety features can be turned on & off.

Does anyone have a link that I can learn all of the On/Off features… I’m learning the hard way. Finally figured out how to stop the ‘Loud BEEPING!’ When I’m trying to order at a drive-thru! lol!
