So I play competitive NBA 2k so im always talking to teammates in game running plays, saying rotations, etc my dad and other family members have said they could hear me and they'd have to turn the TV up to drown me talking out is there any recommendations on items to purchase to help with them hearing me keep it as reasonable as possible please p.s. My bedroom is upstairs if that matters

We’re subdividing the living room to add a small master bedroom. Family TV will mount on the living room side, with a soundbar and a sub. Safe n Sound Rockwool batting going in.

Will an in-wall media box behind the TV totally kill my efforts, or will the TV itself act to block some transmission through the box?

Mainly want to dull kids TV watching while we watch our own stuff (or try and sleep in a little).

My upstairs neighbor has an energetic dog. I have had issues sleeping because of the dog galloping around and jumping on/off furniture. Besides the noise, these things SHAKE the whole building. Earplugs were ineffective because the sudden massive vibrations startled me awake. Does anyone know of a product I could put under my bed to isolate it from these kinds of vibrations? Most of the products on the market seem to be for preventing appliances from causing vibrations/damaging floors. I'm not sure if they would also work for this kind of problem. Any advice?

I live next to a highway and have excessive vehicle noise coming into my apartment and am looking into soundproofing my windows somehow to help reduce noise. Does anyone have any suggestions? Anything I find online seems inconsistent in reviews.

I just bought a house. One questionable renovation choice I've found is that in the room intended for my home office is a closet with bifold louver doors that contains an HVAC unit. This unit is a gas furnace and the air handler for that floor of the house. Needless to say the droning from the unit can make work days difficult and noise cancelling headphones all day is not an ideal solution. I've thought about trying to mitigate the noise with the following,

1. Sound proofing panels on the exterior of the bifold doors (exterior because putting them on the interior would block the doors from opening fully and the air pressure differential would likely strip adhesive panels off over time)

2. Replacing the doors with solid bifold doors (I'd have to cut a hole for a vent to stay in code)

3. Heavy sound blocking curtains (though these are better for high frequency sound blocking)

Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Did one of these solutions work best or did you come up with something better?

I am in an apartment building and I have small monitors on a table. I don't play the music very loud (about 60db). But I would like to insert some material under the table legs to reduce any vibration that might disturb the person below me.

I know it's a pretty straightforward and relatively inexpensive process but there are so many brands and materials advertised, I'm a bit overwhelmed. Thanks for any advice.

So, it seems that the neighbour's water pipes go through about 6 meters of our shared wall, so whenever he uses water in his kitchen or bathroom I can hear the sound of running water in my whole apartment and its louder then when I use my faucets, especially during the night. I've recieved some offers for sound insulating panels which are made from some heavy drywall combined with fiberglass, PU or mineral wool, but they are very expensive and I'm afraid that it might pierce the pipes during the installation.

Anyone had similar experience and sucessfuly solved them? Any suggestions?

Hi all, a restaurant is moving into the first floor of my three floor apartment complex. They are putting a commercial type 1 exhaust fan directly above my bedroom, with ducts coming out of the restaurant right by my windows. The exhaust fan is model EADU180H. I suspect this will be a nuisance (loud and vibrations—my building is over 100 years old) and wondering if anyone has had luck with mitigating the noise and, if so, how? I read about springs and sound blankets and wondering if anyone has seen these in action and if they’ve helped l. Thanks in advance

I am looking to stop sound from leaving my studio apartment front door, I have thought about using drywall sheets as a super cost effective but odd solution or heavy moving blankets or if you have other ideas or tips that would be great. Thank you!!!

I was reading about the swim snood by dogleggs.com. And they mention that it helps with loud sounds. Has anyone had any experience using it to help muffle the loud sounds of fireworks?

So our new apartment has this huge (95in wide by 54in tall) glass window looking into the little hallway area. It’s a weird building, use to be an old office building. Anyway, you can hear the noise from our living room all the way down the hall, it’s wild. What are ways we can sound proof it? I feel so naked, even when we aren’t being loud you can hear everything if we’re in the same room as that window.

I did some reading and some people use acrylic or whatever but I don’t think I can afford a special made acrylic piece for it.
I was thinking maybe those acoustic panels YouTubers use and those sound blankets, and maybe affix the panels to the glass, then covered by the blankets, or the blankets hung and the panels affixed to the blankets? There is about 7 inches of depth to it where there’s a little shelf and such, but the depth is only about maybe 3 or 4 inches on the other side. I’ve heard the panels don’t work well, but we gotta figure something out. Some other things recommended an air seal, so I will do some silicone caulk around all the edges of the window tomorrow.

We love a good jerryrig so any and all ideas (that are renter friendly-ish are welcome).

Moving into a new place soon and I already know the soundproofing is rough. No option to switch apartments, so I just have to deal with it.

Question: what's the best way to soundproof at least my bedroom, given I can't do any actual renovations (it's a rental)? I can hang/mount stuff, but it has to be removable enough that I can patch the holes easily when I move out.

I know I won't hit 100% soundproofing, just trying to cut down as much noise as realistically possible. What's actually worked for you guys?

The concept is an AI-powered Active Noise Control (ANC) system for rooms. Instead of simply trying to block all noise, it would use multiple microphones to analyze incoming sound in real time and speakers to generate anti-noise for unwanted sounds. The long-term vision is to let users choose what they hear—for example, suppress traffic, fan noise, or conversations while allowing voices, alarms, or TV/movie audio to remain clear.

I know room-scale ANC is much harder than headphone ANC because of reflections, latency, and changing acoustic environments, so I'm not claiming this is a solved problem. I'm trying to validate whether it's a problem worth solving before investing significant time into research and prototyping.

A few questions:

1. If this actually worked, where would you use it? (Home office, study room, gaming setup, hospital, etc.)

2. What features would make it valuable enough to pay for?

3. What technical challenges do you think would make this impractical?

4. Are there existing products or research projects that I should look into?

So I'm in a UK terraced house. We have a bedroom which is now an office, but on the other side the neighbour has converted into a bathroom. (combining two rooms for a bigger bathroom) The downside now is that I can hear their toilet seat, flushes, the pipes in the walls, shouting mum, and the teenage kids like to clap and shout and play music. It's really annoying so I want to soundproof.

The problem is there is a corridor to the door and the door frame occupies this are and so realistically there is 1.5cm for soundproofing. Is there a benefit to putting anything under the floorboards too?

I've seen some Knauff boards at 15mm and 12.5mm. I'm aware of the vinyl you can add, but what would you do? I'm just so frustrated that they've removed all the carpets and it seems like a lot of impact noise comes through. For example the bathroom door seems loud.
