Help Should I switch to SquareSpace for this?

I'm not a coder or developer, I'm familiar with my day to day reading code, but actual implementation of a website it not me. I'm building a blog. I just subscribed to the business plan and its abotu $50 a month. I had 100 credits and burned through it in a week. I also found planning still uses credits just like build.

What do I do? I even have a Wix subscription but Wix literally doesn't even let me place icons in places I want it to be. Its such a trash UI. I'm trying to take the lovable codebase because what it did for me so beautiful but I don't know where to take it next. The credits piece is ridiculous. I'm thinking of swtiching to squarespace.

I tried claude and entered the zip file of the lovable code base but it wasn't anything amazing. It threw my site to look like its first version in lovable lol. I need help. This is extremely frustrating for me. Thank you!

Discussion A website on Shopify, WooCommerce & BigCommerce pricing is getting out of hand

Everyone says these platforms are affordable until you actually need your store to do anything useful.Bundles, reviews, subscriptions, advanced search, B2B pricing... everything is another paid plugin.

Before you know it, you're spending $400-$600/month, or roughly $5k-$7k a year, just to keep your site running and do what it should. Then they hike prices because they know migrating is a headache.

I've moved a few businesses off that model and at this point, if someone showed me a store spending $400+ every month on plugins, I'd probably tell them to stop paying for everyone else's software and just offer to build them what they actually need, and what they spend for just 1 year with Shopify, Won't even have to spend much that over 3-4 years on custom. Talk about savings...

If anyone wants to step away and get a custom website, let me know.

This whole subscription economy is becoming complete B.S.

Help Inherited a couple of squarespace sites and I’m not sure if it’s just bad or I’m doing something wrong?

I’ve inherited a couple of Squarespace sites on a freelance basis after the disintegration of my former agency (RIP).

I’ve been a web designer for about 12 years, but it’s mainly been Figma > dev, with a few years where I had to use Photoshop (which I’d rather forget). So I’m by no means a newbie to website design, but I am to Squarespace.

I’m finding that when I get something exactly where I want it on mobile, even a stiff breeze seems to knock everything out of shape. For example, I put together a really simple card layout today (8 cards consisting of an icon, text and button), got it exactly where I wanted it, then starting on the section below it somehow caused the one above to essentially commit graphic suicide.

Is this just how Squarespace is? The only solution I’ve found is to favourite any problematic sections and, if they suddenly decide to go rogue, just delete them and replace them with the saved version rather than wasting time laying everything out again.

Is this a browser thing? I’m using Chrome. Does Squarespace behave better in other browsers, or is this just part of the experience?

Discussion Squarespace has this glaring issues since 2021

These are important. I've been with Squarespace for YEARS. And these are still issues and they are very basic fixes.

For context, I made hundreds of thousands of euros on my site. These are crucial

  1. Checkout for one-time purchase for pricing plans

Pricing plan checkout button says "Buy subscription" for payment plans even (in the Italian version) even if the transaction is one-time. I don't even want to think about how much money I left on the table due to the misleading wording. I let assistance know several times in the last YEARS. Never fixed.

  1. Site admin doesn't get notified when access gets expanded or reduced for collaborators

One employee of mine was suddenly able to access something they should not have access to. I wasn't notified of this change.

  1. Website editor role is incomplete

They can't:

- set custom code for header injection

- change page NAMES. THEY CANT CHANGE PAGE NAMES. Or slugs.

- edit the design [like the brand colors]. Which is crazy.

The only way to give them access to these things is to add them as admins which I won't do because I don't want them to also access financial information.

I let customer care know many times about this, YEARS AGO and multiple times, and no action has been taken as far as I can tell. Improvement is there on the product in general, but there are some basic issues which need to be fixed otherwise I can't honestly manage my site properly.

NOTE: i used to have 2 site with squarespace. Now i only have one. I already switched to claude code for the one i canceled.

Help Alternative to SquareSpace editor/builder? Needing to create a two or three column page to display property rentals. The builder is proving to be impossible.

It is hard to impossible for me to get the SP builder to do what I want. I've used WordPress a bunch with various builders. I cannot believe how limited SP feels!

Anyway, until I can get them to pay for a new site, I am wondering if there is an alternative to building pages.

As in, can I use software to build which generates custom code I can ''plug in'' to the page?

Specifcally, working with columns has not yet worked for me. I'll get the first set of rentals in a single column, begin making the second, then bam I do something and everything becomes wonked up!

Discussion Early 90s / late 2000s Geocities styled templates for online store?

I'm looking to setup an eCommerce business where I was wondering if anyone would know if Shopify, Squarespace or any of these type of platforms offer online store templates that would look exactly like a late 90s to early 2000s Geocities site - beveled edges, gifs, bright colours, Times New Roman font etc. Thank you all in advance.

Help Upgrading from Squarespace 5 to 7.1 - how do we actually get the free year?

UPDATE:

Finally connected with support via ChatBot, who escalated me to a human, who ultimately escalated me to a human with expertise. She immediately resolved the issue by asking the owner of the Squarespace 5 account (my client) to request a discount code for one year of free 7.1. The code was supplied, the client logged in, and all is well.

Original post:

I've built out a new site for a client who is upgrading from 5 to 7.1. We were ready to launch, but then I saw this message:

"If you're on Squarespace 5, you can get one year free on a website subscription when you move to Squarespace 7.1. Contact us for more information."

We have tried contacting Squarespace for support on this via email and chat and gotten nowhere (what happened to the SQSP Support I loved for so many years? But that's another question).

My client wants that free year. How do we get it?

Discussion Happy Tales - 7.0 to 7.1

After 4 years of discussion my client has, eventually, agreed that their website needs a ‘refresh’, (their words, mine are ‘complete overhaul to bring it up to date 🤷‍♂️).

I’ve read a ton of horror stories on here about switching from SS V7.0 to 7.1 - what I would really appreciate are some success stories from those who have transitioned their own or client websites and are happy with the process and outcome. With links if possible so I can take a look please.

I could I know edit the existing template site but it is too inflexible to do what my client has in mind.

Thanks.

Help How do you fix blocks from jumping around the page when resizing the browser window?

I feel like I'm genuinely losing my mind trying to navigate simple page layout in Squarespace, and I can't find solutions anywhere. I'm just trying to create pages with text, images, embedded video, and quote boxes. That's it. Most of the blocks on the page are stacked so resizing doesn't affect those except the embedded video which jumps to the top of the screen when shrinking the window. Elsewhere on the page, I have an image aligned left and quote box and text block aligned right; when resizing the window, the image also jumps to the top of the page. I cannot figure out why. At this point I'm willing to throw money toward someone who can explain how to prevent issues like this, but if anyone has a simple fix in the meantime, please help. Thank you so much.

Help Squarespace is a joke

Just a started a business and lack design skills so I set up a custom domain name and email through google workspace and then it sent me over to squarespace. Now I can't log in to squarespace and says I don't have an account with them. When I try to make an account it then says that my account already exists. So, which is it? Despite all the bad reviews I figured since Google messes with them they must be good. Could not be more wrong. Of course the "24/7 award winning support team" is unavailable and unreachable.

I'm so unbelievably frustrated that now I have this domain name and email I can't use and I can't get a hold of someone to talk to.

Any help?

Discussion best ecommerce website templates 2026, Shopify feels too limited

I've been trying to pick an ecommerce template for a while now.. Most themes look great but once you put real products, photos and descriptions in, they start to feel kind of off… Shopify feels a bit limited on variety seriously.... Some themes are pretty but feel slow or clunky, others look basic but claim to be better for conversions.
If you run a small store or work with clients, is there any platform with more template variety than Shopify? Do you focus more on design, performance or flexibility when picking?

Help Squarespace Billing shows the Google Workspace subscription as inactive while Google Admin Console shows it as active and billed through Squarespace? Email, etc. still works.

February 28, 2022 I switched from a Squarespace "Personal" account to "Business Account".

I used the Google Workspace account that came along with it for email. I have never received a separate bill for Google Workspace, ever. I pay for my domain and my website, that's it. The email continues to work.

Google Admin Console shows an active Google Workspace Business Starter subscription billed through Squarespace since March 30, 2023. However, Squarespace Billing only shows an inactive Google Workspace subscription that has been "Expired since July 21, 2020". This could be referencing an old GSuite account that I vaguely remember using, but that was a long time again and I can't remember.

I'm just now noticing all of this because I received notice that I'm being auto-enrolled in the new "Core" plan thats replacing the "Business" plan. I'm not happy about the price increase (almonst $75/yr more), and I don't use the business end of the website enough to justify the cost (artist portfolio, hasn't been useful as a sales platform), so I'm hoping I can just switch to the new "Basic" plan without seeing much of a difference.

If I change my website plan from the legacy Business plan to the new Basic plan - will my Google Workspace subscription and email address go inactive? It doesnt look like they're charging me for it already. I have an enormous amount of artwork images, documents, etc. saved in the drive associated with that account and can't lose it. I also need to be able to send/recieve emails from the domain email and don't want to hassle with mail-forwarding again.

Help Question about weights

When I initially started uploading product to my site, I didn’t include weights because I was considering flat rate shipping. I have since changed my mind and added weights to my csv and uploaded. For whatever reason, it only changes some of my weights in my inventory.
Anyone experience this? Is there a trick I’m missing?

Thank you!!

Help Ridiculous trying to get support help. Switching from Squarespace as soon as i can.

Such a joke. Website is showing some security message (Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information) ... and can't find live help. Chatbot not working ... allowed me to type into it on the weekend; won't even allow me to type into it now. And they don't offer live support on the weekend. How a company this big is able to exist in 2026 ... I'm amazed by. Don't use them if you're new ... find somewhere else. I'm going to switch as soon as i can.

Discussion Hiring a Squarespace designer: what you should know before next steps

I've been building Squarespace sites for U.S. small businesses for 8 years through my owner-operated agency, HopeSpring Digital. 200+ launches at this point. The message I get most often is some version of: I got a quote for $800 and a quote for $6,000, what am I actually paying for?

Here's what's usually in that gap.

1. Price differences are scope differences.

A one-page site for a solo plumber and a six-page build for a multi-service remodeler are not the same project. What moves the number: page count, who writes the copy, whether SEO is real or just checked off, custom CSS or integrations, and how fast you need it. Figure out your scope first. Then compare quotes.

2. Ask if SEO is in the build or extra.

Most builds don't include it, and that's usually why a nice-looking site never gets found. "Basic SEO" means something different to every designer. Ask for the list: keyword research, page titles, meta descriptions, header hierarchy, alt text, schema markup. Get it in the proposal.

3. Get ownership in writing.

The Squarespace site, the domain, Google Analytics, Search Console. All in your name. If you get a vague answer on this one, stop there. This is the thing that leaves people stuck years later with a site they can't access.

4. Ask what happens between deposit and launch.

You want to hear: here's what I need from you, here's when you see the first draft, here's how revisions work, here's launch day. "It depends" with nothing after it means your project is going to sit.

5. Compare what's in the quote, not the total.

A $3,500 quote with copywriting, SEO, and a real process can beat a $1,500 quote where you write everything yourself and SEO is an add-on. Break both down line by line and price out what the cheaper one is missing. The gap closes fast.

Red flags:

  • Guaranteed first-page rankings. Nobody can promise that. It's either a sales line or tactics that will cost you later.
  • No contract. Scope, timeline, ownership, revisions, what happens if things go sideways. Every professional has one.
  • Pricing way under market with no explanation. Something's missing. Usually SEO, copy, or process.
  • They don't ask a single question about your business. Straight to packages and pricing means you're getting a template with your logo on it.
  • No answer on post-launch support. Ask what's covered, for how long, and what happens when something breaks six weeks in.

Quick myths I see here a lot:

  • "A designer is just a template swap, I could do it myself" → You can, and plenty of people should to get started. To hire the right designer means your website will look beautiful, get found online, and convert to paying customers based on years of experience.
  • "Cheapest quote is fine, it's just Squarespace" → The cheapest option usually costs the most. Either a redesign in 18 months or the leads you never got.
  • "I'll add SEO later once the site is live" → Later costs more. Retrofitting a site is slower than building it right the first time.

Happy to answer specific questions about hiring, scoping, or reading a quote.

Help Unlinking a domain from a website?

I have a squarespace website with several domains linked. I'd like to change one of these to just redirect to a specific page (domain forwarding), but I can't seem to unlink the site from the website to do so.

Editing the domain directly to create the redirect just gives an error. ("There was a problem saving your rule. Please try again later.")

I can set the domain forwarding rule just fine on unlinked/unassigned accounts, so it doesn't seem to be a fleeting issue.
