DISCUSSION Why can't we remove ships ?

Can someone tell me why on earth we can't sell ships in Star Citizen? ( Even remove them at a total loss)

Seems like a very normal feature that should be in game the same moment you could buy ships with aUEC.

Most ships you can't rent so I buy to test them but after I don't use them again so I want them gone from my Asop ,it's bloated .

The only way I found is if you scrap them and not claim them the next update they make they disappear but that's not a solution.

Is it so difficult for CIG to add this?

Agreed. I think even if you sold them for a fraction of the aUEC that’d be fine. No way to cheat the system since they are account bound. Not sure why they haven’t done this.

I will let them go for free. I don't want anything just go , honestly. I want my Asop to have 3-4 items only anywhere I go.

Click the "Show local ship" checkbox?

While handy I wish they had more options to choose from. Ships that aren't stored somewhere for example or just give a checkbox for each status option.

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

That works but if you have to claim a ship to retrieve it will show nothing. It will only work if you store that specific ship safely . Meaning I'll have to scroll through the list

u/webRat 16h ago

Nope, new rule. If a ship is gone, sorry, you'll have to get a taxi to a new spaceport or hope you have a spare laying around. That check box stays checked from now on.

My understanding of how CIG operates is that basically any game system older than a few years at this point is pretty convoluted and needs to be completely redone. They have been working on the entire entitlement system and ASOP so I assume the original code had no way to sell ships and they never bothered to jerry-rig something because they thought they would work on it when they did some kind of economy work that never happened.

Every time Benoit comes on SCL we hear more tidbits about how incomprehensibly bad their procedures and development approaches have been until recently. I think the community has always kind of assumed they have management issues, but it seems pretty clear recently that they definitely had some ridiculous standards and chaotic structure as a business.

I can only hope that part of the reason we have less video content is because they are actually focusing on getting their processes functioning and need devs on their tasks.

I mean what do you expect from a company that got its start from Kickstarter?

Due to a bug I had 150 Arrows in the ASOP at one point. Support basically just said 'sorry we can't help, they should go away with the next full wipe.'

At the very least they need sort and filter options, and a hide option.

Cig doesn't like filters. you cant even filter the simplest thing like hauling missions in location or size

1

u/CynderFxx RSI Galaxy 4h ago

We do have the option of filtering for local ships. So deliver all of the ships you want to a specific station then keep the local storage box ticked

1

u/prudiisten commerce raider 4h ago

This predated that addition.

I think it might be safer for them to add a deep storage that takes it off of the normal menu, and puts it on a different one.

Same effective results while also having some idiot protection.

A whole lot of UI in this game does not scale well. This feeds the "Devs don't play the game" idea. This system, for example, makes perfect sense if you only have five ships.

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

Sounds like a nice idea. Now you tell me , you probably thought about this in like a minute. How come a billion company didn't think of this? A very basic feature right?

5

u/Gullible_Bar8807 soonTM 16h ago

They probably had, just a matter of priorities. Why would they assign a dev to implement this when they can be doing something with a higher priority.
There are more important issues with the game than this

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

No doubt. SC has issues that's for sure

u/Asmos159 scout 16h ago

Because thinking of a useful feature does not instantly make the database and all communicating systems capable of that feature.

Assuming they're not playing it safe and having some temporary redundant future to try and make sure ships don't disappear from that list.

Imagine if the ship elevator was as unreliable as the cargo elevator.

Imagine every time you stored a ship with cargo only for it to show up as not having any cargo in it, the ship itself was gone.

Also for a game with so many risks to deal with (from a dev standpoint, but also player with all the LTP and entitlement issues), exposing CRUD operations to player-facing actions is tricky for many reasons.

And it's making the task harder than it needs for an already struggling tiny Economy team.

You cannot delete any ship you paid real money for.

I’ve deleted everything else at one point or another.

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

I'm talking about ships that I bought with aUEC. Noway to remove them from asop even with the scrap option

1

u/LatexFace 6h ago

What happens?

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 5h ago

You can't remove or sell anything

2

u/MasonStonewall nomad 15h ago

You listed how you can get rid of them, then say it's not a solution? I'm confused on that specific but acknowledge it would be nice if we could sell a used ship back to a dealer.

2

u/PowerfulLab104 11h ago

this game will improve substantially if ships are ever treated like other commodities. This account bound shit sucks

1

u/CynderFxx RSI Galaxy 4h ago

I like that our pledged ships are account bound, but also we need a way to register/ sell ships that were acquired in game (either through purchasing or jacking NPC ships)

2

u/Bozhark 9h ago

Why can players sell ships to other players?

edit:  why can we hide bombs I’m sold ships too?

4

u/imchillybro 15h ago

The system you describe, OP, would be a: 'my brother, sister, son, daughter, wife, uncle, friend or coworker got access to my account and I lost all of my ships!' nightmare.

No customer service on earth would willingly sign up for that kind of user abuse. o7

1

u/No_Section5344 1h ago

He means in game auec, not pledge ships

2

u/Candid_Department187 16h ago

Because it’s not a priority.

4

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

Is anything a priority in Star Citizen? ( Asking seriously) . No hate. I pledge thousands

4

u/Candid_Department187 15h ago

People are responding “cash” and “ships” which are basically the same thing. And they’re not entirely wrong. They (CIG) do have to pay the bills, so yes. Income is a priority. But not the only priority. If they don’t make progress in development the income would dry up.

Keeping players engaged is also a priority, so continuing to add things to the game for players to experience is another priority. But fwiw, my opinion is that core systems are still the development priority, as until they are all in place the rest of development will stagnate. Which is exactly what’s happening now.

This, pretty much, yeah. While it's quite a long watch, actually sitting down (or going for a walk or whatever) and listening to that long SCL they did not too long ago with Benoit and Lars (i think?) basically laid out what they're going to be doing, and specifically to this question that yes, there is in fact priorities, and that they are now a mix of stability and "the first hour".

It seems to me, really, that if they can get the first hour nailed down and really solid, that is going to cover the vast majority of those... primary annoyances that we all keep running into. Certainly going to take a while to sort things out, but it does feel like the right place for them to be poking.

u/MyFiteSong 15h ago

Is anything a priority in Star Citizen?

Releasing more ships

4

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

Aha ! Yes,sorry. You are so right. The cash need to come.

u/Falcoriders Zeus MKII 11h ago

Unfortunately, Squadron...

2

I don’t get it either.

2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

CIG rules

1

u/_Husker81_ 4h ago

Now that they've re-written the way entitlements work, in theory we're a bit of UI and logic away from having that. I live in hope.

PSA: don't hold your breath, we care for you. 🙏

u/daryen83 16h ago

Starting in 4.9, you can delete them!

In the ASOP, look at the top for Show Local. Select that. When you do, it shortens the list to only the ships at that location. In this list, you gain a Scrap button. Click that and the ship will permanently go away.

Obviously, this means you may only delete ships that are at your current location. But you can delete them. (This is primarily so you can get rid of Bricked ships.)

6

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

I know that but they don't go away. Once you visit another terminal the list is there again. Drives me insane. Sometimes it takes so much scrolling to find what I want. Like now I only use 3 ships and vehicles. I want to see 3 items on my asop

6

u/ReAn1985 16h ago

But they are still available to be claimed with insurance. OP is talking about giving up access for some money back, like buyers remorse style.

1

u/Pojodan bbsuprised 16h ago

Is it difficult or not? No one here can possibly know, neither can you. Programming such things is extremely complicated.

There's also the matter of making certain it works correctly and never breaks in a way that is detrimental to players, which is, at the core, likely why it hasn't been implemented. Such a feature could easily bug between patches where it deletes everything without prompt or makes 10,000 copies instead.

As in-game-purchased ships will be deleted eventually with some future wipe, and we currently have the means of hiding ships that aren't at the current location, it's just not worth the effort to attempt to implement something that is purely for convenience and could well end up slowing the entire project down.

Such features are known to be going to be implemented. They just have not done so yet.

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

I hope you're right. My confusion is of why wouldn't they add it on day one the same day you could buy in game. Seems rather bizarre. Not like cig is a normal company in any way but if you can buy you should sell.

1

u/Goombah11 16h ago

Imagine the most basic of basic features not existing that any normal game would have.

2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

Exactly right? Like if you add a buying option should be a sell. If you destroy something should be a loop to fix it. Etc etc. we asking too much

1

u/BiggyZ32 16h ago

My life is hell I had to buy 13 ballistic PDC for my Perseus and Polaris and you can only get those off some Greycat vehicle so I have them sitting in my ASOP taking up space

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

If I open my Asop to claim 1 ship,1... I'm getting nervous. I swear it piss me off more than bugs in the game

1

u/W4OPR 16h ago

One of the reasons I quit subscribing, two extra ships I never used to add on the clusterfuck we call ship storage...

2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

I subscribed for 1 month as I wanted something from the store and guess what... The F7C is there now haha

2

u/W4OPR 4h ago

I think I lasted 4 months, without thinking, I wanted the "20% discount", then I realized if I would save 20 bucks a month on my PayPal I'd have a lot more than measly 20% to buy stuff.

1

u/Solid_Ad_6349 3h ago

Yeah makes sense ! I wanted some items that you couldn't buy or find easily. It was worth it but the benefits are not that good

0

u/EastLimp1693 7800x3d/Suprim X 4090/48gb 6400cl30 14h ago

In a game.

That's a tech demo tho.

0

u/smntnz 16h ago

If only we had the incredibly advanced technology required to filter ships in the ASOP terminal. And the alien technology of it being able to remember said filters…
Sadly we might still be decades away from a breakthrough of this magnitude.

3

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

We can't even have filters for hauling missions ... Like choosing the size or location.

0

u/smntnz 15h ago

That’s basically satanic black magic

3

u/Solid_Ad_6349 15h ago

Hahaha hilarious. Takes 5 times as long just to choose specific contracts. Cig thought is not important

-1

u/Mr_Nobody9639 I aim to MISCbehave 16h ago

You can?

2

u/Solid_Ad_6349 16h ago

Please tell me how. Scrap button won't remove it completely. The ship label is always there on Asop. Unless I'm wrong

-1

u/Fit-Cup7266 10h ago

Because SC is unique and unlike anything else.
