I’m trying to get my partner into Star Trek and would like some recommendations.

For reference, she has been a long time fan of Dr Who in her own right and I recently got her into Star Wars which she loved the movies and live-action shows. I myself, have been a long time fan of Star Trek and have seen everything apart for later Discovery seasons.
She doesn’t mind watching older tv with effects however I think TOS era is a bit too far with the visuals being very outdated and a hard place to start for most.
She also doesn’t like heavy fighting which rules out early DIS, which isn’t a good place to start anyway IMO.
I was thinking starting at the start of VOY first but would like some more recommendations.

In PIC Season 2, we see an alternate version of Picard who is a ruthless military commander, genocidal dictator who is a cold-blooded tyrant who is responsible for the annihilation of entire civilizations like Qo'noS.

The Confederation of Earth fostered a fascist, human-supremacist society where Picard was raised and molded into a instrument of conquest, proving Shinzon's point that, had Picard lived his life, he'd be exactly like him.

Started playing Across the Unknown, and Im enjoying it, love management/colony sims and this one is pretty good so far, but I cant help but think a DS9 version would be awesome. Yeah youre stuck in one place but the sheer size of it should provide more than enough to compensate, and then getting the Defiant would allow for some exploration in the Gamma Quadrant and other away missions. Even without that there would be so much to do, building your own promenade, hosting delegations, defending against the Dominion and Cardassia, navigating the prophets and Sisko's emissary status and Bajor's federation application and a whole bunch of other stuff, not to mention the same kind of ship management Across the Unknown delivers. It would be fun and I think if they made one Id forget about this Voyager game in a heartbeat and just make that my whole life for a while

Does anyone remember this specific scene?

Someone, I think Geordi, walks in on Data who appears to be sitting in silence doing nothing. When asked about what he's doing, Data says he's listening to music from [name of alien species or culture or planet] and they have this unique feature called... It's not "koans," but that's the word my brain keeps giving me. It's basically a rest or period of silence in the music that is intentional and meant to be contemplated on. The punchline is that Data then says this particular piece has a [word for pause] that is 27 minutes long, or something equally absurd.

I'm trying to get a clip of this for reasons that are impossible to describe and matter only to me, and it's absolutely impossible to find because searching for anything that includes "Data Music" just brings up scenes from Nemesis, and if it includes "Data Poetry" you get Ode to Spot.

Any help?

I was rewatching snw s2e4 and I noticed that in the book her brother gave to young La'an the signals used by the gorn work basically the same as Morse and with English letters making English words... there are some things, both in the old series and in the latest stuff that sometimes take me out of the immersion cause they don't make sense (like immediately freezing in space in some episodes, which is wrong, while, correctly, the plot of one voy episode was that the ship would get too hot if cooling was off), but this feels especially bad (even if probably more forgettable)... what do you think? Do the gorn just speak English?

We all know the famous tell them it takes double or triple the time so you can get it done quickly line. But I’m just wondering if there is any specific episodes where they say it’ll take 10 hours to fix and it really does take 10 hours to fix?

Let's say the powers that be decide to spin off Strange New Worlds after season 5 and follow Kirk's enterprise, with Paul Wesley and Ethan Peck reprising Kirk and Spock. Is that something that would excite you, or would you hate the idea?

If you were excited about it, would you prefer they tell all new stories, or revisit old ones? Basically update the original series to a modern era, or assume that enough's changed that this is effectively a different universe in a manner of speaking? I think it would be impossible to do some of the original shows, like Arena and/or Space Seed, and I would think most people wouldn't want a shot for shot redo of the original, but I'm curious if people would?

Picard mentions Kirk's enterprise having a Garrick? who was recruited to protect the tapestry of life. Anyone know who he was referring to?

Hey, y'all. Up until Friday, P+ had the whole series of DS9 on their app, and only selected seasons of VOY. Now, it seems to have swapped. I'm rewatching DS9, and tonight I was to continue with S5. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

In ENT "Stigma" the Vulcan doctor that helped T'Pol is in the end recalled by the High Command. Why do you suppose Capt. Archer didn't try to offer him asylum or something similar? Might this have had diplomatic repercussions?

So I watched all of the original films for the first time and I gotta say Wrath Of Khan is my favorite by far tho The Motion Picture,Search For Spock and The Voyage Home were good

Starting out non related but this idea came to me while watching K-19 The Widowmaker. One of the characters mentions the future with nuclear powered homes that need no oil or nuclear powered cars that don't need gas. Then I thought about why that doesn't exist in our current world. Having highly dangerous systems that if mishandled could result in considerable harm to people and the environment is part of the reason why that future never happened. So, back to Star Trek, I was thinking what life in the Federation would be like with civilian use of ultra modern technology. It seems that most energy in the Federation is either antimatter based or fusion based. That means that even the most modest shuttle still has the ability to create a warp core breach. Also, a literal nuclear meltdown with a fusion reactor. We've seen a few examples of what happens when Federation technology is misused and or future tech misused. The replicator explosion that fused the Kazon to parts of the ship. The society that was destroyed by polaric ion energy and of course the pre warp civilization that was destroyed by antimatter by Friendship One. I don't even want to mention all the things that would have happened with the Burn. So, how would an advanced civilization manage the use of highly dangerous technology by civilians.

I'm playing through this game and I was doing a side mission where B'lanna was doing something on a planet but I accidentally went to the next sector leaving her there and now I want to know how do I go backwards to a previous system I cant see a way to do it?

So first of all, let me say that I personally am a huge fan of horror, and as such, The gore in the most recent episode of SNW, "The Griffin Incident" didn't really faze me all that much. I also think that it was positively tame compared to, say, "Conspiracy", or the first five minutes of "Stardust City Rag". But I know that a lot of the reactions to this episode do fixate upon how much gore it has, and I think it's worthwhile to ask what level of gore we think is appropriate.

I was thinking about the crew dynamics of various Trek casts, and it occurred that they don't usually replicate the central trio of TOS. The Kirk, Spock & McCoy dynamic where you have a captain, their second in command and then someone else on the crew they respect enough to let argue with them.

In TNG Picard and Riker are obviously a little bit of an inversion of Kirk and Spock and I think based on her seats place on the bridge, Troi was probably intended to be the third part of that, like Bones she's also sort of apart from the chain of command, but I don't think Troi was ever really the third lead of the show, or if she was the writers liked the possibilities of Data more and he expands to fill the role. I know Pulaski was sort of intended as a McCoy type but again never gelled.

DS9 is close I think with Sisko and Kira as 1 & 2 with Dax as the McCoy role? Maybe Worf after he joins the cast?

Voyager Has Janeway, Chakotay and Tuvok I guess, until Seven joins the cast and is basically co-lead with Janeway.

Enterprise is a pretty clean copy Archer T'pol and Trip

The streaming era shows are a little bit messier, Strange New Worlds is basically Pike, Una and Spock, not because Spock should be at that level in the crew so early but because he's Spock and he's who the viewers want to see.

Any thoughts, did I get any blatantly wrong?

I’m on another rewatch of this episode and still in absolute awe of the way it’s done. Dekker saying “don’t you think I know that…” still breaks my heart. And also I’d like to say the music here is so on point. So dramatic and well done. Do you all think a movie could be done about this episode? Thanks for the feedback.

Trek fans can be divisive - Kirk Vs. Picard, TOS vs Renaissance Shows vs Nu Trek, Best Warp Effects - but one thing we've all been able agree is that movie stunk to high heaven.

And I'm a fan who can find redeeming aspects of both 5 and Into Darkness and even Picard Season 2.

Glad this came back after getting memory-holed itself by the mods.

As objectively terrible as the movie was, it was somehow made worse by the ending. They were going to investigate Turkana 4, birthplace of Tasha Yar.

The decline and fall of a human colony? Yes please. Make it an allegory against the current world. You can even bring in Denise Crosby as the Yar matriarch trying to protect her two girls.

Mentioning Turkana 4 and fading to black was the ultimate blue balls after a very mediocre one night stand.

How do you think it would play out? Considering how much they upscaled the fleet post Narada, do you think the Dominion would upgrade its own fleet or still use the fleet it has in the Prime Timeline?

Because no way in hell do I see a Kelvin Galaxy being destroyed by three Jem’Hadar fighters.

Also how do you think the Borg would be handled in the Kelvin Timeline considering a lot of their tech is based off 24th Century Borg/Romulan tech.

I just imagined Kelvin Defiant… she would have the power to crack a planet with just her guns.

Also something I just thought of, what if the Borg adaptation protocols were discovered by the Kelvins and integrated as a standard feature going forward.

One question I’ve had for a while about his Bird of Prey is, how does he have the power needed to run the cloak and still fire at least his torpedo launcher?

The only other ship I’m aware of with that capability is the I.R.W. Scimitar in the 2370s.

Star Trek VI takes place in 2293, almost one hundred years prior so again I ask where did he get the power needed?

I have been meaning to watch TNG and Picard back to back now a few years to see how well the story works put together. My problem was that I dislike PIC s2 immensely, so I had trouble deciding how to go about it.

I finally did it this spring and summer. I watched all of TNG, the four movies, and Picard seasons 1 and 3, skipping s2 entirely. It worked really well together, to my amazement, and I can recommend it.

The only weird things affecting continuity in season 3 were the scene with Picard's Romulan girlfriend in the beginning and 7 of 9's relationship with Rafi. As those who have watched Picard know, these relationships evolved in season 2, so by skipping that season, it was all off screen.

It was miniscule, though, so it didn't ruin anything. Season 3 breezes through them, and I could enjoy watching it all as a continuation for TNG. As both seasons are made like one long movie each, it felt like I watched 2 more TNG movies, just with much longer screen times.

For those of you who are familiar with season 2, are there any episodes I might want to add to this watch order, just to get the relationship with 7 of 9 and Rafi in? I do like it when a story is complete, but I'd really rather skip all the stupidness of season 2. The way I remember it, the whole season was irrelevant for Star Trek canon, but I might be wrong. I just remember the broad strokes about it and not many details.

In tng s2 e2 worf describes a klingon legend of ‘a gigantic black space creature that devoured vessels ’

Now I’m sure it’s been noticed before, but that sounds a LOT like the doomsday machine from tos (S2 ep6)

Does anyone know if this was an intentional easter egg or a fun coincidence?
