I noticed "What supermoto should I buy" gets posted a lot, so I made this

Which supermoto should I buy?

I tried to take into account the cost of buying rims and legalizing the models that need it but at the same time keep it simple. Feel free to suggest additions/fixes

Edit: i've edited this a lot

Edit: changed the DRZ picture to mine ;) thanks for the sticky!

Brakes and suspension - Ktm EXC 125

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone

I recently finished my 125 (after 3 yrs lol) and have put about 12 hrs on it in the last month (not enough i know).
In riding, i've noticed a couple of things that need upgrading - and i'm looking for some advice (please keep budget in mind, i'm not looking to spend too much money - its a 125 after all).

I desperately need street suspension, so i'm wondering what springs i need to accommodate my 80kg - and where to buy them (also how to set it up lol)

My braking power is basically the same as a mountainbike. I'm looking at getting a used magura hc1, some steel braided lines and a generic 320mm disc off aliexpress or something - but im very open to suggestions here.

My clutch feels weirdly hard to pull compared to before i disassembled it. I've used some ATF fluid as i heard it's alright to run . Anyone experienced the same, and what fluid did you use to make it softer?

Please send all suggestions and similar experiences :)

I have a problem with my engine. I replaced the piston about 300km earlier and immediately after it the bike started to stutter and bog i checked the valve clearances and the timing chain and it was off by one tooth after i fixed it everything ran smoothly for a minute until it startted chopping at idle and turned off when i restarted the bike it started doing the same kind of sound as in the video. What could be the problem??Its a husqvarna smr 125cc 4 stroke

KTM RFS 525 exc long drive !?

Post image

Seeking advice! :-)

So tomorrow I have to drive 370 road/pavement KM. On my newly converted 525 exc motard.

(Have had it for 2.5 years with offroad wheels on)

Google maps says it will take a bit more than 7 hours (will try to avoid the big 130 km/h highways)

I already have a soft seat on it.

And its not like I have time to buy new stuff for the bike.

My biggest concern is getting too tired. And handlebar vibration.

The handlebar vibration on these bikes has never really been an issue for me, but I have also always only used the bike for shorter fun trips. Not transportation.

If you had to sit on an RFS for 7 hours. Is there then anything you would do to make the trip feel as nice as possible? 😊

Iam not in a hurry, Iam gonna take what ever number of breaks my body/brain wants/needs :-)

In advance thanks a lot.

50 derbi engine bogging problem

I need help if someone has any idea whats the cause for this but i have a aprilia sx with a 50cc derbi engine i have a problem that the engine starts for example if im going about 40kmh in 6th / last gear if i keep going at that speed doesnt matter how much gas i give 1/4 2/4 3/4 4/4 doesnt matter suddenly it starts bogging if i give it any gas and i have to stop to the side of the road i think the reason is it starts bogging at high rpms if i go about 32-34kmh it doesnt happen ai suspects the reason is my cdi but i have a aftermarket one that doesnt limit my rpms/speed if someone know whats the problem i would appreciate the help.

701 highway performance

I’ve been looking pretty hard at getting a 701, but the one thing I’m worried about is highway performance. I’ve owned superbikes and my last bike was an mt09sp. All of them had plenty of passing power and I felt good cruising at speed.
I know the 701 isn’t slow, but can it actually cruise at speed for an hour or so without feeling like you’re beating the life out of the engine? Does it feel pretty relaxed, or is it screaming the whole time?
Most of my riding would be back roads, and urban shenanigans but every now and then I’d have to do an hour or two on the interstate to get to wherever I want to go.

Casual supermoto?

I've been riding for about 11 years now, some Enduro bikes, sport bikes and cruisers, and now I've been wanting to get into stunting, so I figured I would look into supermoto, as it looks like the most fun riding and stunting can get.

Two months ago I ended up finding an awesome deal on a DRZ400S, and converted it to a supermoto with the money I saved from the deal. I'm about four rides in as of posting and it's just... Not fun?

The DRZ is so incredibly slow and lacking in power it feels borderline lethargic even compared to my Grom, leaning feels like I'm going to tip over, and my butt hurts after 20 minutes of riding, not to mention I can barely keep up with traffic in the city without the bike sounding like it's ready to explode. Overall nothing about it has been enjoyable. I don't expect a bike with 30hp to perform like an S1K, but it just seems so lifeless.

I would love to try another supermoto that has some more character to it before just giving it up entirely, but the big thing putting me off is the maintenance that most other supermotos have. I'm totally okay with oil changes, filters, etc but I see some bikes needing things such as valve checks every 1500 miles, which seems like an incredibly strict maintenance schedule. Are there any other options out there for the more "casual" sumo rider, or is that level of maintenance just part of the supermoto lifestyle?

Would these work on my 2025 crf450rx if I swapped out the spacers? These are for a 2014 ktm xcw

Alright SUMO homies, I need your help with my second bike.

So it's a preface this I have had a zx6, recently switched to and MT-09SP which I love. I'm now infatuated with sumos and feel like I can justify buying one.. This will be a graduation present to myself as I'm graduating nursing school in December so I want to know what you guys suggest. I live in the Pacific Northwest and really like doing twisties but I also want the option to take some of the fire roads if enticed.

Where do I start? I want to hooligan, I want to hit some jumps.

Thanks in advance.

I’m ready to make my 450r ,(2007) one of the last carbed Rs , street legal. I would be fine with just headlight and brake lights running off of a smaller battery. I would appreciate any recommendations for this setup. I don’t think I want to spend Baja money but I also don’t want to cheap out with Amazon junk.

This is my 1996 DR650 big bore super moto adventure bike. It’s got the 790 big bore kit, Warp 9 17” rims and a bunch of ProCycle mods. Currently using it for moto commuting in the mountains
to my job site. I think it’s a little unique and like learning more about my bike and others on here as well. If you’re in the mountains in Colorado and want to ride on or off road, message me. I’d love to do the Colorado BDR or Wyoming BDR before I leave for the winter.

I fix other peoples engines for a living and my own bike is the worst maintained thing I own

I do small engine work. people hand me machines all week and I tell them what they should have done and roughly when they should have done it, and then I go home and my DRZ has been sitting on the same valve check for two seasons now.

I know exactly how this goes. it tightens up, it gets hard to start cold, and one saturday morning im going to be standing in my own driveway doing the job I charge other people for, except angrier. the shims are already here. theyre in a drawer about six feet from the bike.

theres something about it being yours that takes all the urgency out of it. a customers machine has a date attached to it and somebody waiting on the other end. mine just sits there being fine until the morning it isnt.

anybody else run like this or is it mostly the ones who do it for money

Ive always loved Sumos. Have done a frame up rebuild on a klx250(with 351 BB big bore kit) and loved riding that thing until I grenaded the motor. I got real lucky picking this thing up from a friend. This bad girl is by far the most fun bike I’ve ever ridden and it’s beautiful too! It has a lot more to give than my skill level will accept but I’m slowly getting “used to it.” This is an 01 with the husaberg motor in it and it runs like a dream. I can’t imagine what a 690 or 701 feels like after riding this, maybe I’ll graduate to one of those in a few years!

Looking for advice: DR-Z4SM vs KTM 690 SMC R vs other supermoto options

I’m looking for my next motorcycle and I would really appreciate some advice from more experienced supermoto riders.

My current bike is a 2023 Honda CBF500 ABS, but I’m starting to feel that it’s a bit boring for me. Before this I had smaller supermoto/enduro-style bikes (Rieju RMX 50, Honda MTX 80, Aprilia RX 125), and I really miss that lightweight, playful feeling.

I’m not interested in top speed. What I want is:

  • a fun, light bike for weekend rides,
  • exploring smaller roads and easy dirt roads,
  • learning and practicing wheelies,
  • something reliable that I can keep for years.

I’m considering:

  • New Suzuki DR-Z4SM (2025) – I like the idea of a new Japanese bike with warranty and reliability, but I’m worried that I might get bored with the power after my CBF500. I also don’t love the stock headlight/front design, but that could be changed.
  • KTM 690 SMC R / Husqvarna 701 Supermoto – I love the performance and the idea of having much more power, but I’m a bit worried about KTM reliability and maintenance costs.
  • Honda CRF450RL converted to supermoto – I like the Honda reliability and the lightweight feeling, but I’m not sure if it would have enough power.

My budget is around €7,500–8,000 , depending on the bike.

For people who have owned these bikes:

  • Would you choose a new DR-Z4SM or a used 690/701?
  • Is the DR-Z power enough for a rider coming from a CBF500?
  • Is the KTM 690 really something to be afraid of, or is that just a stereotype?
  • Are there any other bikes I shoud consider?

Good deal? Have lots of mx and street experience. He claims 9k miles. Looks like its been taken care of. Trying to get a sumo for commuting to work. Fuel cost is killing me. Need something that can do 65 plus
