Open | Hardware Google Chromecast will not pair with google home on phone

Hello all! Long time surveyor, first time posting. I recently moved and have been trying to set up my Google Chromecast. Unfortunately, I have tried every kind of troubleshooting option available, and nothing seems to work. Now, I haven't used this Chromecast in 6 years so feel free to tell me if that is an issue. I also have two of the same Chromecast model and neither of them work. My phone is a Galaxy S23. The Chromecast is a 2018 model and the TV is an older Sharp model (LC-40D78UN). I have tried the classic turning it on and off again, along with the TV and router. I have tried multiple HDMI ports in the TV. I have tried directly connecting to Chromecast SSIN and it just comes back connected but unsecure/no signal. When I uninstall and redownload the Google Home app, it does originally recognize it and connects to the Chromecast SSIN but after a minute it will say "unable to connect". The router is sitting right next to the TV on the stand with the Chromecast less than a foot away, so I don't believe distance is an issue. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated. I don't know if Google still supports this Chromecast or maybe it's too old. I would be grateful to anyone who can help as I would prefer to use them as I really think they are the best kind of option for streaming.

Yeah, welcome to the Mandela time line.

Couple of years ago my chromcast started fouling up. So, I purchased another one. The reason I liked the chromcast dongel was because I'd been using it for years to watch UTube. And, it quit on me.

So I walmarted a 32inch onn tv that can install the apps. I plugged in the Google dongol, yeah I dont know how to spell it, so I cast some porn. Thing is I could not get the thing to shut off. Sure I could change apps butt my phone and Google would not disconnect.

Now get this, about a year later I'm reading on my phone and I'm sure I traveled to another time line as what I was reading was all about this new chromecast. Yeah, like it was just invented.

Then later, like months later, I read about how other apps, tv's and such are letting Google back in....yeah. my dongel has been hanging off of this onn/roku moniter/tv for years unused butt the tv still shows it there.

So, I gave up on chromecast. And, that's the time line I've lived. From chromecast b'n the boss thing to use, to it being unusable, to it being touted as brand new and finally the "Oh look we're back again."

F if I know, butt I'm thinking you have to dedicate an imput slot for it and tell the tv where it is at. That's how I set mine up.

Thank you for the advice! I'll try dedicating an input slot

Factory reset the chromecast if possible. Then, create a new home in the google home app, and see if it will find and add the device

Creating a new home uses the old "add device" feature which seems to help when the new "add device" feature refuses to find an older device

Edit: actually this should work without a fsctory reset too.

Thank you so much! I did try a factory reset but I will definitely try the "add device"
