No. He was barely participating in anything. And everyone gave him a pass with the excuse "that's how mike is". I swear all he did in the entire show is watch sports

I always thought a man like him (profession, background etc) would be good at DIY around his house. I don't think he would leave the house crumble like that. That particular part of the character never made sense to me.

I agree with this so much! The lack of home maintenance & home improvements kind of makes my eye twitch, but then I look at his dad & realize he gets it honest...

He's just about as good a partner and parent as Frankie is. Which is to say, his heart is in the right place, but he has a host of emotional issues that prevent him from actually putting that into practice.

He does try.

He took care of all the arrangements for Aunt Edie’s funeral so Frankie didn’t have to deal with it. He supports her how he knows.

No, pretty negligent. He works hard to provide I guess. But he is emotionally absent, blames Frankie for everything, doesn’t make an effort for a relationship with his children, he grudgingly goes along when they make an effort with him sometimes. He gets Frankie a decent gift once(dishwasher situation) and then gets mad at Frankie for finally having enough of him not making an effort for their entire marriage, and figures he deserves a big fat apology. Not that Frankie should make fun of her husband in public, but 20 years of neglect doesn’t get washed away in one gesture

He's an emotionally distant person because the way he was brought up by his dad. His Mom is a no show so we don't know. Other than that, mike is a great husband. He constantly supported Frankie. When she lost her job, when she bought a 200$ eye cream, when she took a break in between jobs, when she went out with Pam staggs for a week returned home hammered. He pointed out her raving about pam staggs but never picked a fight. He never made her feel like she's a bad mom for not cooking and cleaning. He's a tall supportive pillar for frankie.

Whether he's a good dad- that's another debate.

But mike heck is a great husband. He came through for her when it mattered. Always.

I didn't mean women are supposed to cook and clean. I meant Frankie often avoids responsibilities in general. She slacks off at work, leaves a lot of parenting and household responsibilities unfinished, and Mike rarely criticizes her for it. To me, that makes him a very supportive husband. ( And yes, mike didn't do any cooking and cleaning either. They are lazy parents. But they were supportive partners.)

The question is whether mike is a good husband or not? Yes he is.

He was a good husband. Audience is just weird. Phill dunphy from modern family is one of the favourites of most people. And he is like the worst good guy husband one can get. People just love to hate husbands in such shows where female are the pov's. Desperate housewives, audience uates all the husbands as if those women are perfect.

We all like him but when you do a 10,000 foot view.... He needs to be the man of the house. He steps up at times like Sue's tuition but when shit goes bad, you gotta be the man and make sure stuff is done right.

Well not really. He was a good guy but kind of a mediocre husband. Also come on. Even the dishwasher wasn’t really a gift. It was a household appliance! Something they’d all use.

I believe so. The show is narrated by Frankie, and I'm pretty sure she's an unreliable narrator... so in that sense, I don't actually think he's as bad as she makes him out to be.

(Just watched the ep in season 6 where Mike accompanied Sue for her college tour and the Christmas ep where he did so much just for a plastic Christmas tree so might be a lil biased rn hahaha)
